Opis:
For an arbitrary h-ary relation ρ we are interested to express n-clone Polⁿρ in terms of some subsets of the set of all n-ary operations Oⁿ(A) on a finite set A, which are in general not clones but we can obtain Polⁿρ from these sets by using intersection and union. Therefore we specify the concept a function preserves a relation and moreover, we study the properties of this new concept and the connection between these sets and Polⁿρ. Particularly we study $R_{a̲,b}^{n,k}$ for arbitrary partial order relations, equivalence relations and central relations.

Opis:
Using the new method of the construction of lower density operator introduced in the earlier paper of the first two authors, we study how much the new operator can be different from the classical one. The aim of this paper is to show that if f is a good adjusted measure-preserving bijection then the lower density operator generated by f can be really different from the classical density operator.

Opis:
Let A and B be two non-unital reduced Banach *-algebras and φ: A → B be a vector space isomorphism. The two following statement holds: If φ is a *-isomorphism, then φ is isometric (with respect to the C*-norms), bipositive and φ maps some approximate identity of A onto an approximate identity of B. Conversely, any two of the later three properties imply that φ is a *-isomorphism. Finally, we show that a unital and self-adjoint spectral isometry between semi-simple Hermitian Banach algebras is an *-isomorphism.

Opis:
The translation of an artificial dialect in David Mitchell’s novel “Cloud Atlas” The purpose of the present study is an analysis of the techniques applied by the translators of David Mitchell’s novel “Cloud Atlas” into Polish, German, French, Spanish, and Portuguese while translating the artificial dialect used in the chapter “Sloosha’s Crossin’ an’ Ev’rythin’ After”. The plot of that chapter is set in a distant future, after the fall of humanity. The narrator is a goatherd whose dialect can be described, on the one hand, as simplified, partly distorted English and, on the other hand, as an exotic dialect which contains neologisms referring to fictional species, culture-specific terms, etc. Special attention is paid to the translation of neologisms as well as to the rendering of the original style. As the results show, the translators used a number of techniques, especially lexicalization, colloquialisation and rusticalisation, adapting the dialect as much as possible to the morphologies of the target languages in order to preserve the style of the chapter as well as to achieve the appropriate effect on the TL readers. In fact, as the dialect is artificial, the translators were able to approach it in a creative way, without the risk that the dialect would be associated with a particular geographic region.

We prove a dichotomy result giving the positivity preserving property for a biharmonic equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions arising in MEMS models. We adapt some ideas in [H.-Ch. Grunau, G. Sweers, Positivity for equations involving polyharmonic operators with Dirichlet boundary conditions, Math. Ann. 307 (1997), 589–626].

Opis:
The iris biometrics is considered one of the most accurate and robust methods of the identity verification. The unique iris features of an individual can be presented in a compact binary form which can be easily compared with the reference template to confirm identity. However in contrast to passwords and PINs biometric authentication factors cannot be revoked and changed as they are inherently connected to our characteristics. Once the biometric information is compromised or disclosed it became useless for the purpose of authentication. Therefore there is a need to perform iris features matching without revealing the features itself and the reference template. We propose an extension of the standard irisbased verification protocol which introduces a features and template locking mechanism, which guarantee that no sensitive information is exposed. Presented solutions can be easily integrated into authentication mechanisms used in modern computer networks.
