Opis:: In 2020–2021, the diet of the Lesser Spotted Eagle (Clanga pomarina) was studied in the central part of the Magura National Park in southern Poland. The diet composition was determined by analyzing pellets and prey remains under occupied nests. Of the 92 prey items collected, the diet, measured by biomass, consisted of 32.12% reptiles, 66.88% mammals, 0.75% amphibians and 0.25% insects. The main mammalian prey taxa were members of the family Cricetidae, while the most commonly eaten insects were from the family Carabidae. Insects were the second numerically most important prey category with 18.48%.

Opis:: Two classes of factors were distinguished: (A) factors acting on reduction of the numbers of preys within the predator-prey system itself and (B) factors acting from outside on the predator-prey system. In relation to group (A) a discussion is given, using spiders and their mosquito victims as an example of the behaviour of preys in the presence of the predator and the behaviour of predators in relation to their food, under conditions or different density of the components of the system defining these reactions by numerical indices referring to the popu1ation. Examples are given of the inf1uence of these population reactions on the height of indices of prey reduction. In relation to group (B) a short discussion is given of the influence of the weather, structure of vegetation and ,,period of the season” (that is of the development phase of the predator population) on the behaviour of the components of the spider-mosquito system and on the prey reduction.
