Opis:: The text supplements the article by S. Linder and contains information about research on the primacy effect in Poland. The subject of J. Raciborski’s analyzes were elections to national councils (local government bodies) in 1988 – the last elections before the fall of communism in Poland, elections to the Sejm in 1989 and 1991. T. Żółtak investigated the existence of the primacy effect in the elections to the Senate in 1991-2007. However, the primacy effect in the 2014 regional elections was of greatest political importance. The strength of this effect was measured by J. Flis. Analyzes were also carried out on the effect of a candidate’s position on the party semi-open list in proportional elections. However, this is a completely different issue, as in this case the position on the list is related to the actual political weight of the candidate. In Poland, the relationship of the primacy effect with postal elections has never been studied, which results from the marginal importance of the latter, as well as the procedures used in elections, which prevent a separate analysis of the content of votes cast by post and at the polling station.

Opis:: The issue of corporate governance is being taken up by different branches of science. Particular views on the nature and goals of a firm, as well as on corporate law, determine various approaches to the issue. The ongoing debate on corporate governance is being stimulated by notorious scandals and economic crises. The agency theory (prevailing today), which assumes egoism and pursuit of one’s own interests, forms the basis for shareholder primacy model, while team production theory forms the basis for director primacy model. Stewardship theory, which assumes convergence of management’s and stakeholders’ interests, may be competing or complementary towards the agency theory, depending on situation. According to management theory, efficient management requires law regulation of managers’ status. This paper is aimed at presenting controversies about traditional agency theory as theoretical basis for corporate governance, as well as at discussing other perspectives on the issue, which are extensions of the traditional theory or are based on substantially different premises. The analysis shows that going beyond agency theory allows for better understanding of the whole range of models of corporate governance as well as of the changes that are being proposed in the area. The method utilized in this paper is descriptive and comparative in character.

Opis:: The aim of this article is to present the main lines of the primacy theology as presented by Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) and its significance in an ecumenical dialogue. Ratzinger, following Catholic ecclesiology, points out that the bishop of Rome carries out the task which was entrusted to Peter by Jesus. Referring to the biblical sources, he researches Peter’s place in all New Testament writings and analyses texts describing his mission. Quoting the arguments from the Bible supporting Christ's origin of Peter’s prerogatives in the area of leading and directing the Church, Ratzinger argues that Peter’s primacy has its Biblical roots and comes from God. The Bavarian theologian points out a personal character of the primacy, thus assessing that the foundation of the Church is both the person and the statement of faith, whose subject is the person. Ratzinger presents the papal office in relation to the Passion of Christ so the Peter’s primacy has a testimonial structure and is related to matryrology through following. The essence of Papacy’s message includes witnessing about Jesus Christ and His salvific message. Thus, the primacy always witnesses about a relationship of the Church with Christ, legitimizes and strengthens it. Stressing a personal character of the primacy, which is expressed in the attitude of being “on the way with Jesus” in the perspective of the Passion and the Cross, we can conclude that authenticity and authority of Christianity takes place not through law, norms and rules but through the miracle of the person of the Church Shepherd, who is responsible for the faith purity and Church unity.

Opis:: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The paper aims to determine in what manner official papal titles are an expression of supreme power in the Church. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The principal problem refers to the ecclesiological correlation between papal titles and primatial power, as well as the ongoing changes in the understanding of power within the Church, manifested by the departure from iurisdictio in favour of communio. Methods involve source text analysis (of the Holy Scripture and ecclesiastical documents), interpretation, and comparison. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: All names of the highest office in the Catholic Church are derived from the so-called primatial texts which describe St Peter the Apostle and his mission. Together with the practice of the first centuries of Christianity, they have provided a basis for establishing the dogmatic truth about the primacy of St Peter and his successors. The primacy involves supreme jurisdictional power in the Universal Church. In this context, the author proceeds to analyse current papal titles which expose the scope and the multifaceted nature of the power exercised by the Bishop of Rome. Furthermore, the author presents modifications in the official papal titles, which are simultaneously a reflection of ecclesiastical changes in the area. RESEARCH RESULTS: It has been established that some titles are an expression of real jurisdictional power (e.g. Bishop of Rome, Sovereign of the Vatican City State), while others carry historical and honorary importance (e.g. Primate of Italy) or manifest contemporary tendencies to highlight the religious character of the office (Servant of the Servants of God). CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: A departure from the secular understanding of power in favour of a religious and ministerial direction encourages further, praxeological research, as the primatial practice of individual pontificates (gestures and symbols) precedes the official primatial doctrine.

Opis:: Autor zwraca w artykule uwagę na siedmiokrotnie powtarzające się słowa z Księgi Apokalipsy (rozdz. 2–3): „Ten, kto ma uszy, niech usłyszy, co Duch mówi do Kościołów”. Słowa te nabierają szczególnego znaczenia w czasie, gdy wiele mówi się o kryzysie Kościoła i ekumenii oraz o ekumenicznej niecierpliwości. Kościół nie jest celem sam w sobie i dla siebie. Nie powinien zajmować się jedynie sobą, lecz swoje wysiłki skupiać na głoszeniu Ewangelii, Dobrej Nowiny, która jest wspólnym dobrem wszystkich chrześcijan i ludzi dobrej woli. Ewangelia daje radość i nadzieję, jak to podkreśla papież Franciszek w swojej adhortacji Evangelii gaudium. Skazani jesteśmy na szukanie dróg przezwyciężenia kryzysu, który jest nie tylko wyzwaniem, ale również szansą na pełniejszą realizację mądrości Ewangelii. W tym poszukiwaniu nie należy obawiać się tematów trudnych, takich jak niebezpieczeństwo zniewolenia przez pewne doktryny, które domagają się reinterpretacji, korekty i niezbędnych uzupełnień. Autor podkreśla konieczność powrotu do ”kenotycznego etosu”, czyli zdolności i odwagi do samoograniczenia i przezwyciężenia tego, co stoi na przeszkodzie do pojednania. Dotyczy to zwłaszcza trudnej i kluczowej kwestii prymatu biskupa Rzymu. Papież Franciszek mówi wręcz o potrzebie „nawrócenia papiestwa” (una conversione del papato). Przyszedł błogosławiony czas, aby hermeneutykę nieufności i podejrzliwości zastąpić hermeneutyką uczciwości i wzajemnego zaufania. Dialog ekumeniczny otwarł przed chrześcijaństwem nowe horyzonty. Trzeba odważnie kontynuować dotychczasowe wysiłki w celu nawrócenia Kościołów ku sobie i pojednania.

In the article, the author deals with justification of the historicity of – primacy of the bishop of Rome, which Paweł Lisicki presents in his apologia. The text consists of six parts. Its main axis is the reconstruction of Lisicki’s arguments. It consists of reasons that arise from archaeological research, the analysis of tradition and the interpretation of the New Testament texts. The author also presents methodological assumptions formulated by Lisicki. Finally, he draws conclusions from the perspective of fundamental theology.

Opis:: Artykuł podejmuje temat reinterpretacji rozumienia prymatu biskupa Rzymu w kontekście współczesnej debaty o synodalności. Po pierwsze, wskazano na wybrane historyczne argumenty przemawiające za ściśle eklezjalną interpretacją prymatu. Po drugie, omówiono prymacjalną teologię Vaticanum I. Po trzecie, opisano recepcję definicji prymatu i nieomylności papieża, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem pojęcia kolegialności. Na końcu wykazano, w jaki sposób współczesna debata o synodalności jest konkretnym wyzwaniem dla rozumienia prymatu. Analiza źródeł historycznych oraz Magisterium Kościoła skłania do wniosku, że synodalność Kościoła domaga się także bardziej eklezjalnego widzenia prymatu. Rola biskupa Rzymu może być właściwie zrozumiała jedynie z uwzględnieniem jego głębokiego kościelnego zakorzenienia jako sługi jedności Kościoła. Współczesne dokumenty Kościoła wyrażają to przede wszystkim poprzez powiązane widzenie trzech rzeczywistości: prymatu (biskupa Rzymu), kolegialności (biskupów) oraz synodalności (Ludu Bożego).
The article discusses the reinterpretation of the understanding of the primacy of the Bishop of Rome in the context of the contemporary debate about synodality. Firstly, selected historical arguments are used for a strictly ecclesiastical interpretation of primacy. Secondly, the primatial theology of First Vatican Council is discussed. Thirdly, the reception of the definition of primacy and infallibility is described, with particular emphasis on the concept of collegiality. Finally, it is shown how the contemporary synodality debate presents a concrete challenge to the understanding of primacy. The analysis of historical sources and the Magisterium of the Church leads to the conclusion that the synodality of the Church also requires a more ecclesial view of primacy. The role of the Bishop of Rome can be fully understood only by taking into account his deep ecclesial roots as a servant of the of the Church unity. Contemporary Church documents express this concept through the related vision of primacy (the Bishop of Rome), collegiality (the bishops) and synodality (the people of God).
