Opis:
During the last several years, the market of cosmetic products, defined as natural ones, has been increasing by several percent a year and it is covering more and more serious segment of selling cosmetics, toiletries and a wide range of household chemistry products. Despite numerous doubts from medicine and cosmetology circles, this trend is developing and there is no evidence of any changes in the nearest future.

Opis:
In the article the author attempts to compare direct and non-direct investment in the stock indices. By direct investment the author meansthe buying a particular index on the Warsaw Stock Exchange strictly preferred by the investor stock exchange. While the indirect investment is an investment in bank structured products based on stock indices, namely products of which the final result depends on the formation of the indices. It is assumed that structured products complement or even replace the traditional investments in stocks, bonds and deposits. The investment in a structured product is to be for investors a substitute for direct investment in the index and listed companies, raw materials, baskets investment, real estate, and other instruments. The question that arises here is: are structured products really substitutes for traditional investments and whether they give satisfactory returns to investors? The question was answered in the article defining the rate of return of structured products based on companies and stock indices ended 31.12.2013 on the Polish capital market. The results regarding the structured products launched and completed during the period 1.01.2000 – 31.12.2013 on the Polish capital market, were compared with the rate of return of selected indices. For the comparative analysis the following indices were selected: the Hang Seng, Dow Jones, WIG, WIG 20, Hang Seng, Nikkei, Shanghai Composite.

Opis:
Background. Globalisation is the direct or indirect source and cause of many economic, social, political and cultural processes and phenomena. These processes also affect agribusiness and food production. One of the important developments in recent decades is the ever-increasing scale of food adulteration. Its consequence is a reduction in the level of food safety, both in its health and economic aspects. The latter is due to the presence of impaired, or even adulterated, food on the market, which exposes consumers to non-equivalent exchanges. Sectors particularly vulnerable to these illegal trade practices include meat and fish products. Objective. The aim of the article is to identify the dominating methods/categories of food adulteration using the example of the Polish market for the food production sectors of meat and fish. Material and methods. The research was conducted using data from the Agricultural and Food Quality Inspection (AFQI), the official food control institution responsible for quality and food adulteration controls in Poland. The study covered the period from 2010 to 2020. Results. Research has shown an exceptionally significant level and diversity of methods of adulterating meat and fish products. These products are adulterate much more often than other food products. The conducted research has shown many methods and ways of adulterating both meat and fish products. It is worth emphasizing that the greater concentration of counterfeiting methods concerns meat products. The study revealed an extremely significant variety of adulterating methods for meat and fish products, significantly beyond those typically cited in the literature. Conclusions. The results of the research indicate the need to intensify official food controls on the Polish market. In particular, this should apply to the group of meat and fish products due to their high level of adulteration.

Introduction. Probiotics are live microorganisms which, administered in appropriate amounts, have a beneficial effect on human health. Food products that contain these microorganisms are known as natural probiotics. Probiotic food include the group of dairy products in which fermented milk products are majority. Objective. The aim of the study is to review current data and summarize knowledge on the effects of consumption of dairy probiotics on human health. The review also aims at discussing the potential of these health-supporting microorganisms as a prevention factor against civilization diseases. State of knowledge. Consumption of probiotic food, especially natural dairy probiotic food, may have a positive effect on health due to the presence of probiotic bacteria or by the presence of their metabolites (postbiotics) demonstrating bioactive effects. The intake of these products is associated with the improvement of parameters such as lipid profile, insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular risk parameters, or presents protective effect on bones. Studies show a correlation between the consumption of natural probiotics and reduction in duration of diarrhea or alleviation of the course of inflammatory bowel diseases. Conclusion. The influence of natural dairy probiotics consumption on the state of health has recently been broadly investigated. Regular consumption of these products has shown beneficial effect on gut microbiota and on a wide range of health parameters. However, further studies are necessary to draw a precise conclusion.

Opis:
Research background: The role of supplementary pension systems in providing adequate income in old-age is increasing significantly. They are frequently analysed, but rather in terms of architecture, product forms, assets under management or tax incentives than in terms of their efficiency, costliness or readability for individuals. Purpose of the article: The first aim of this paper is to evaluate individual retirement products in Poland regarding their linguistic readability and transparency, investment efficiency and costliness. Moreover, we examine whether there is any correlation between the analyzed characteristics of contracts that would suggest an intentional strategy by financial institutions to hide low efficiency and high costs. The second aim of the article is to assess which individual retirement products are similar to each other and which are significantly different. The research covers two types of individual retirement products (IKE and IKZE) offered at the beginning of 2017. Methods: We used the ?Jasnopis? linguistic analysis tool to assess the difficulty level of the language used in the contracts and we conducted desk-research to analyse their transparency. We indicated the costliness and efficiency of the products by calculating the 5-year cost ratios and real average 5-year rates of return. To examine the relations between the characteristics of pension contracts, we used the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient and then verified its significance with a non-parametric test. Moreover, to identify groups of products that are similar to or different from each other, Ward's method was used. The study includes nearly 90% of  all individual retirement products offered in Poland. Findings & value added: For both types of retirement products studied (IKE and IKZE), we found that the more readable a contract is, the higher its rate of return is and the higher the costs charged are. Moreover, the more readable a contract is, the more transparent it is. The findings of the study provide financial institutions, the supervisor and creators of social policy with information on market imperfections and recommendations how to improve the individual retirement products offered on the market. Our research makes a unique contribution to the multidimensional research of supplementary pension systems. It also develops the understanding of how to successfully use linguistic tools in complex analyses of financial services. The results of the hierarchical cluster analysis proved that both IKE and IKZE products differ substantially and their features generally do not depend on the type of the financial provider.

Opis:
This paper reports from the study dealing with the preliminary investigations, concerning forecasting of electric power consumption of some industries from Ahmednagar city. The investigations regarding the potential energy consumption are mainly directed to three energy-related aspects or drives, namely: (i) energy policy, (ii) production of green and non-green products, and (iii) production of FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) and non- FMCG products. The here proposed methodology is implemented in three phases. The first, initial phase concerns the preparation of the questionnaire that clearly addresses the effects of the aforementioned drives on various industries. The issues mentioned in the questionnaire are closely related to the industries from Ahmednagar city. In the second phase, the prepared questionnaire was distributed to the industries of Ahmednagar city. In the questionnaire, all the questions are made mandatory and subsequently, the industrial authorities are demanded to fill up the precise information as much as possible. The responses from the concerned industries related to power management are then subject to analysis. The analysis is done with the focus on correlation coefficients. Thereby, determining the correlation between different factors helps to arrive a conclusion regarding the dependencies of various factors in the potential power consumption of industries in Ahmednagar city.

Opis:
Background. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder with largely unknown pathogenesis and no effective cure. It is believed that several, not mutually exclusive mechanisms contribute to the pathogenesis and progression of this disease, including, among others, elevated oxidative stress, excitotoxicity, increased neuroinflammation, and protein aggregation. Receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) is a part of immunoglobulin superfamily; it is believed to participate in ALS pathogenesis. Objectives. Our previous studies on ALS demonstrated that RAGE is likely one of the key players in ALS, acting on its own and in tandem with its oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory ligands, such as advanced glycation end products (AGEs) or advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs). In this study, based on our previous results, we aimed to establish blood levels of soluble RAGE, AGE and AOPP in ALS patients. Materials and methods. Forty-six coded and anonymized surplus plasma samples from ALS patients and non-neurological control were used in the study. The plasma levels of RAGE, AGE and AOPP were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) commercially available kits. Statistical evaluation of data was performed using one-way non-parametric analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Kruskal–Wallis post hoc test. Results. Our results revealed a decline in soluble RAGE level, concurrent with an increase in the levels of AGEs and AOPPs in blood samples from ALS patients, signifying a loss of neuroprotective form of RAGE and a simultaneous increase in AGE and AOPP production and uptake at the early stage of the disease. Conclusions. The results obtained from our study indicate that further longitudinal study of RAGE, AGE and AOPP levels would be beneficial, outlining the dynamics between RAGE and its ligand levels as the disease progresses, and making them valuable diagnostic tools and potential therapeutic targets.
