Subdifferential inclusions and quasi-static hemivariational inequalities for frictional viscoelastic contact problems
Autorzy:
Migórski, Stanisław
Opis:
We survey recent results on the mathematical modeling of nonconvex and nonsmooth contact problems arising in mechanics and engineering. The approach to such problems is based on the notions of an operator subdifferential inclusion and a hemivariational inequality, and focuses on three aspects. First we report on results on the existence and uniqueness of solutions to subdifferential inclusions. Then we discuss two classes of quasi-static hemivariational ineqaulities, and finally, we present ideas leading to inequality problems with multivalued and nonmonotone boundary conditions encountered in mechanics.

Opis:
Reactive materials (RMs) or impact-initiated materials have received much attention as a class of energetic materials in recent years. To assess the influence of processing techniques on mechanical properties and impact initiation behaviors of an Al-PTFE reactive material, quasi -static compression tests and drop-weight tests were performed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to identify the characteristics of the interior microstructures of the Al-PTFE samples. A sintering process was found to transform Al-PTFE from a brittle to a ductile material with an increased elasticity modulus (from 108-160 MPa to 256-336 MPa) and yield stress (from 12-16 MPa to 19-20 MPa). Increasing the molding pressure from 36 MPa to 182 MPa increased the elastic modulus of all Al-PTFE samples and also the yield stress of unsintered ones. Unsintered samples in general required less energy to initiate than sintered ones. As the molding pressure increased, the impact initiation energy for sintered Al-PTFE fell from 96 J to 68 J, whereas the initiation energy for unsintered Al-PTFE rose from 68 J to 85 J. PTFE nanofiber networks observed in sintered samples formed under the higher molding pressures could contribute to the opposite trends observed in the impact initiation energy of unsintered and sintered Al-PTFE samples.

A non-quasi-static model of partially-depleted SOI MOSFETs is presented. Phenomena, which are particularly responsible for dependence of device admittances on frequency are briefly described. Several C-V characteristics of the SOI MOSFET calculated for a wide range of frequencies, preliminary results of numerical analysis and of measurements and brief analysis of the results are presented. Methods of model improvement are proposed.

A novel conception of hybrid piezoelectric motor is presented in this paper. Proposed conception required synchronized work of quasi-static and resonant piezoelectric actuators that results in a rotary movement. The motor's working principle is explained and the main characteristics are described. Studied topology is compared to the existing piezoelectric motors with regards to its field of applications. The assembling process of the motor is briefly explained with emphasis put on the frequency and impedance tuning of the piezoelectric actuators. Next, the power supply system is described. Finally, conclusions are presented concerning the features of the hybrid piezoelectric motor and possible solutions of the faced problems.

Opis:
Influence of the size of steel reinforcement of a concrete structure on crack initiation at the interface between the steel fibre and the concrete body of the structure is under consideration. Numerical analysis is provided using a quasistatic delamination model for interface rupture based on an energetic approach using a cohesive zone model for providing the interface stress-strain relation. The obtained results confirm expected dependence of the critical load which causes triggering of the interface crack on a structure dimension parameter.

Opis:
This paper concerns the coupled linear quasi-static theory of thermoelasticity for materials with double porosity under local thermal equilibrium. The system of equations of this theory is based on the constitutive equations, Darcy’s law of the flow of a fluid through a porous medium, Fourier’s law of heat conduction, the equations of equilibrium, fluid mass conservation and heat transfer. By virtue of Green’s identity the uniqueness theorems for classical solutions of the internal and external quasi-static boundary value problems (BVPs) are proved. The fundamental solution of the system of steady vibration equations in the considered theory is constructed and its basic properties are established. Then, the surface and volume potentials are presented and their basic properties are given. Finally, on the basis of these results the existence theorems for classical solutions of the above mentioned BVPs are proved by means of the potential method (boundary integral equation method) and the theory of singular integral equations.

Results are presented of numerically simulated three dimensional quasi-static shear deformation of polydisperse systems of spheres. Results of axisymmetric compression test simulations are reported for both dense and loose systems. The versatility of numerical simulation is demonstrated by presenting results obtained from simulations of general radial deviatoric loading, a constant deviatoric strain test and a multi-axial plane strain test. In all cases, the simulated stress-strain dilation responses are in excellent qualitative agreement with the behaviour of granular materials observed in physical experiments.

Opis:
This paper deals with development of a computer simulation procedure, as a substitute for physical rollover test, to evaluate bus body structure crashworthiness. It is expected that, when completed, this procedure can be proposed to the authority to enhance its current type approval procedure related to crashworthiness which is merely based on qualitative and empirical field experiences without performing real rollover test. This procedure will enable afirmer base for judging the crashworthiness of bus structure. The proposed computer simulation procedure is being developed based on ECE R66 which allows partial bus body structure to be physically tested. In this case, sections of bus super structure built up from at least two bays are used to represent the whole structure. A finite element method computer program capable of dealing with elastic plastic calculation is employed to calculate deflection of a bay structure under incremental quasi-static loading until residual space limit is reached. From the obtained force-deflection curve, the strain energy absorption capacity of the structure will be evaluated if it is large enough to absorb potential energy resulting from rollover test. A bus body superstructure sample from a representative domestic bus manufacturer is used as test cases.

Opis:
This paper presents a new algorithm that approximates the forces that develop between a human hand and the handles of a climbing wall. A hand-to-handle model was developed using this algorithm for the Open Dynamics Engine physics solver, which can be plugged into a full-body climbing simulation to improve results. The model data are based on biomechanical measurements of the average population presented in previously published research. The main objective of this work was to identify maximum forces given hand orientation and force direction with respect to the climbing wall handles. Stated as a nonlinear programming problem, solution was achieved by applying a stochastic Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy (CMA-ES). The algorithm for force approximation works consistently and provides reasonable results when gravity is neglected. However, including gravity results in a number of issues. Since the weight of the hand is small in relation to the handto-handle forces, neglecting gravity does not significantly affect the reliability and quality of the solution.

Opis:
In this paper were conducted virtual tests to assess the impact of geometry changes on the response of metallic hexagonal honeycomb structures to applied loadings. The lateral compressive stress state was taken into consideration. The material properties used to build numerical models were assessed in laboratory tests of aluminum alloy 7075. The modeling at the mesoscale level allow to a comprehensive study of honeycomb internal structure. The changes of honeycomb geometry elements such as fillets radius of the cell edges in the vicinity of hexagonal vertexes, wall thickness were considered. The computations were conducted by using the finite element method with the application of the ABAQUS finite element method environment. Elaborated numerical models allowed to demonstrate the sensitivity of honeycomb structures damage process response to geometry element changes. They are the proper tools to perform the optimization of the honeycomb structures. They will be also helpful in designing the process of modern construction build-up of the considered composite constituents in various branches of industry. Moreover, the obtained results can be used as a guide for engineers. Conducted virtual tests lead to the conclusion that simplification of the models of internal honeycomb structure which has become commonplace among both engineers and scientists can lead to inaccurate results.
