Opis:
Praca dotyczy rewitalizacji terenów poeksploatacyjnych po odkrywkach węgla brunatnego Niesłusz i Gosławice. Zlokalizowane są one w północnej części miasta Konina i zajmują około 15,6% jego powierzchni. W latach 60 i 70 XX wieku zostały zrekultywowane, głównie leśnie i rolniczo.
The study is concerned with the process of revitalisation of post-mining regions of Niesłusz and Gosławice brown coal open-cast mines. These areas are situated in the northern part of the town of Konin and occupy approximately 15,6% of its area. In 1960s and 1970s, they underwent restoration, mainly in the form of forest or agricultural reclamation. With the passage of time, considerable parts of these grounds underwent secondary degradation. Their revitalisation is essential as this would support development of local population because these areas could be turned into urban green land which would also comprise areas for recreation, extreme sports etc. Due to their mining subsidence and lithological discontinuity, they can also be used to a limited extent as investment parks.

Opis:
Approximately 80000 tons of drilling waste is produced in Poland annually. This type of waste is relocated and deposited in waste neutralization plants or landfills. Eventually, it must be managed. Reuse of solid wastes might constitute a method of their utilization. The article investigates the use of drill cuttings, sewage sludge and sawdust for production of soil-like mixtures. The studies on evaluation of the possibility of economic application of soil-like materials were carried out. The assessment was conducted on the basis of metal content in soil-like materials and plants cultivated on substrates produced of soil-like materials. In accordance with the valid legal regulations, the concentration of metals in soil-like materials enables their application on class II soils, i.e. arable land. The concentration of heavy metals in the plants cultivated on the substrates produced with soil-like materials is low and does not exceed the concentration of metals determined in animal feeding standards.

Opis:
After finishing the mining process, the best way to deal with the residual of open-cut coal mines in the north-western region of the Czech Republic has been proposed to be hydric recultivation. The area of our study is the first artificial Lake Most (formerly known as Ležáky-Most coal quarry) finished in 2014 and opened to the public in 2020 for recreational purposes. Since the lake is a closed system without natural inflow and outflow, the prediction of evaporation plays a crucial role in the securitization of long-term sustainability based on the capability of keeping the stable level of a dimension of the final water level. In this paper, we use the historical data consisting of the altitude of the lake level, its area, the perimeter of the shoreline, and especially the volume of refilled water. These data are compared against the computational methods; namely, the Penman-Monteith Equation and Hargreaves-Samani model calibrated by the method proposed in our previous work.

Opis:
The impact of coal exploitation on the geological layers of the earth is closely related to mining activities and this activity has been quite pronounced considering the topographical changes of the green space together with the vegetation that would directly affect the degradation of agricultural lands. The soil is the environmental medium with irreparable damages from the activity of coal exploitation for the location where the Sibovc mine is located, which is characterized by the physical disappearance of the pedological profile of the soil such as the ecosystem, etc. and that represents the most serious form of damage to her. The purpose and importance of this paper is the biological recultivation of the area degraded by coal exploitation, based on the height of the scale H and the angle α° of the slope of the clay layers with the safety factor allowed for determining the humus layer for the cover of the degraded area, physical and chemical analyzes were performed based on the samples that were taken in the open profiles in the field, it was planned to plant saplings (trees) that will have a positive effect on the prevention of soil erosion, the enrichment of the air with O2, the reduction of the amount of CO2 in the air, the prevention of the distribution of dust in the environment, the size of the passage and from the geotechnical point of view, the prevention of humus soil landslides. The planned recultivation of the plot will start from the level of quota 570, 580 and 590 m, covering an area of about 17 hectares.

Should renaturalised and recultivated landscapes appear in landscape typology?
Autorzy:

Opis:
Landscapes constantly change under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors. They can be destructive as well as leading to regeneration of landscapes which have been imbalanced. When this process occurs in a natural or human-controlled manner with the use of natural elements of the environment, it is called renaturalisation, and the resulting landscape – renaturalised landscape. Where landscape restitution occurs under the purposeful, sustainable and rational human influence, we talk of the recultivation process and the resulting landscape is termed recultivated. Examples of both of these terms added to landscape classification have been described based on several quarries existing within the City of Krakow.

Opis:
The paper presents preliminary results of the studies concerning influence of geotextiles stabilizing the soil on vegetation of post-excavation slopes and drainage ditches. Analyzed anthropogenic habitats are situated in Międzyrzecze and Nieboczowy (Silesian Province, Southhern Poland). They have been previously subjected to reclamation treatment, consisting in installation of wool and synthetic geotextiles in the ground. The studies on plant community were conducted according to commonly applied Braun-Blanquet approach. Recorded phytocenosis were classified into Molinio-Arrhenatheretea R. Tx.1937 and Stellarietea mediae R. Tx., Lohm. et Prsg.1950 class. For comparison of plant patches growing on two variants of geotextiles Hierarchical Cluster Analysis was used. Moreover, the number of species (S), Shannon-Wiener index (H), evenness index (J) and average heights of herbal layer were calculated. It has been shown, that the type of geotextiles has a slight influence on the variability of investigated plant patches. However, relatively high differences in total coverage and mean height of herbal layer between plots protected and unprotected were observed. It shows that the geotextiles support the process of natural ecological succession on habitats with high inclination, mainly through water retention and reduction of erosion.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to evaluate microbial functional diversity based on community level physiological profiling and b-glucosidase activity changes in soil degraded by sulphur mining and subjected to reclamation with various waste. The experiment was set up in the area of the former ‘Jeziórko’ Sulphur Mine (Poland), on a soilless substrate with a particle size distribution of slightly loamy sand. The experimental variants included the application of post-flotation lime, sewage sludge and mineral wool. The analyses of soil samples included the assessment of the following microbiological indices: b-glucosidase activity and functional diversity average well color development and richness). The results indicate that sewage sludge did not exert a significant impact on the functional diversity of microorganisms present in the reclaimed soil. In turn, the application of other types of waste contributed to a significant increase in the parameters of total metabolic activity and functional diversity of the reclaimed soil. However, the temporal analysis of the metabolic profile of soil microorganisms demonstrated that a single application of waste did not yield a durable, stable metabolic profile in the reclaimed soil. Still, there was an increase in β-glucosidase activity, especially in objects treated with sewage sludge.
