Opis:
The effects of climate change on agriculture may have strong impacts on the world’s food economy and are likely to threaten both the welfare of the world’s population and the economic development of the global society. Hence, the impacts of changes in important climate variables like temperature, rainfall and relative humidity on the production of a major food commodity called banana is investigated using the data obtained within 1998-2012 from Ondo State, Nigeria. The results suggest that excessive rainfall and extremely high temperature can reduce banana productivity while the production is also small when both rainfall and temperature are very low with poor humidity. On the average, the findings show that a mean temperature of about 26 °C and average rainfall of around 1891mm with relative humidity of approximately 77% will lead to good annual banana production above 61,000 tons in Ondo State. Since these climate variables will fluctuate under a future climate change condition, the coping strategies recommended for farmers in the area and in similar places might include planting of drought- and disease resistant banana types, monitoring of weather conditions, use of irrigation and chemicals. Improved storage facilities are also important while transportation of banana should be done under controlled conditions to avoid spoiling the quality.

Foods 2025, 14, 3189. https://doi.org/10.3390/foods14183189
Opis:
In this study, two known date fruit cultivars (‘Mejhoul’ and ‘Boufeggous’) were pre-treated using convective and infrared drying, and then subjected to cold storage at +4 °C using two levels of relative humidity (RH): 55% and 65%. The quality of the date fruit was assessed based on selected phenolic compounds, sugars, color, hardness, weight loss, and some image features at 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 months. The results exhibited non-similar patterns in the changes of phenolic compounds according to cultivar and relative humidity level. The highly significant changes were observed for “Quercetin-Xyloside” that decreased drastically after two months of storage, especially for the ‘Mejhoul’ cultivar. Also, “Gallic acid” indicated a progressive and significant increase during storage. Other phenolic compounds, mainly “Quercetin-derivatives”, “Chlorogenic acid derivatives”, and “Ferulic acid”, showed fluctuating values among treatments and during the whole period of storage. For sugar compounds, it was noticed that glucose and fructose were affected by drying technique and relative humidity, especially for the ‘Boufeggous’ cultivar. Weight loss increased significantly for ‘Mejhoul’ cultivar stored at high relative humidity (65%), and ‘Boufeggous’ evolved in the opposite way for samples stored at lower RH (55%). For color, the browning index exhibited a significant and progressive increase among all treatments considered in this study; this pattern was more pronounced for date cultivars stored at high relative humidity (65%). The evaluation of hardness indicated a softening phenomenon during storage, especially for the ‘Mejhoul’ cultivar stored at 65% of RH. Moreover, the correlation of image features with weight loss and some color attributes indicated high correlation, and the estimation of the behavior of dates under storage could be predicted using accurate image features.

Opis:
Though water covers more than two-third (about 70%) of the earth’s surface, still fresh water used for drinking purposes remains scarce (only about 2.5%). This is mainly due to presence of long coastlines & island nations. As a result most of the countries meet their water demands by desalination of sea water which is a very costly affair. In India, the state like Odisha has a long coastline. Till now Odisha has not developed a method from which water from sea can be used to provide drinking water to the people. The aim of this present work is to develop a portable device that can be used to meet the water requirement of a regular household. The device will first condense the water present in the atmosphere & then purify it so that it can be used for drinking. Such a device is called Atmospheric Water Generator. From this work, it was found that if the ambient temperature is 35 ºC or higher & if the relative humidity is greater than 50% then the device will function well & it will start condensing water. Thus in order to work the device in coastal areas of Odisha metrological datas are collected from internet for major coastal cities of Odisha and found that the relative humidity of coastal cities in Odisha remains above 50% throughout the year. Hence the developed device will work round the year without any problem.

Opis:
The variability in the temperature and Relative Humidity (RH) observed within Lagos State, a coastal region in Nigeria, is investigated using data from Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) for 1980 to 2010. The results reveal an annual mean value of 27.20°C and 83.01% for the temperature and RH respectively and an increasing trend in RH over the study period while such rising trend in the mean temperature is reversed from 2005 to 2010. The findings show an inverse relationship between the temperature and RH while it further indicates that low temperature is associated with increased rainfall under the accompanying cloudy condition and vice versa. These observations are supported by the strong correlation coefficients between the RH and the rainfall (0.72) and that between the RH and the temperature (-0.95) while -0.59 is obtained between the rainfall and the corresponding temperature. The correlations show that the impacts of the precipitation on RH are stronger than the effects it has on the temperature while both temperature and RH strongly depends on each other. Hence, under a future global warming, extremely warm atmospheric condition characterized by high RH in the coastal region could cause heat stroke, discomfort and health problems among the inhabitants. However, the area becomes conducive and attractive to tourists under moderate RH and good temperature.

Opis:
The accuracy of the available from the literature models for the dew point temperature determination was compared. The proposal of the modelling using artificial neural networks was also given. The experimental data were taken from the psychrometric tables. The accuracies of the models were measured using the mean bias error MBE, root mean square error RMSE, correlation coefficient R, and reduced chi-square χ2 . Model M3, especially with constants A=237, B=7.5, gave the best results in determining the dew point temperature (MBE: -0.0229 – 0.0038 K, RMSE: 0.1259 – 0.1286 K, R=0.9999, χ2 : 0.0159 – 0.0166 K2 ). Model M1 with constants A=243.5, B=17.67 and A=243.3, B=17.269 can be also considered as appropriate (MBE=-0.0062 and -0.0078 K, RMSE=0.1277 and 0.1261 K, R=0.9999, χ2 =0.0163 and 0.0159 K2 ). Proposed ANN model gave the good results in determining the dew point temperature (MBE=-0.0038 K, RMSE=0.1373 K, R=0.9999, χ2 =0.0189 K2 ).

Opis:
PicoRad system based on activated charcoal collectors and liquid scintillation counter is one of the most popular passive methods of radon measurements which may be used both indoors and in other environments such as caves, tunnels, mines etc. It is well known that charcoal is also a very good adsorber of water vapor and it can reduce adsorption efficiency for radon. In PicoRad collectors, the charcoal is mixed with a dessicant to lower this effect. A series of expositions of PicoRad detectors was performed in a Central Laboratory for Radiological Protection (CLOR) radon calibration/climatic chamber to study the effect of high relative humidity on the airborne radon concentration measurements and the dependence of the results on the duration of exposure. The results obtained from the PicoRad system were referred to the mean concentrations delivered by an AlphaGUARD monitor, Genitron (GmbH), Germany. The main conclusions are the following: 1) the PicoRad system results are not affected by high relative humidity, including extreme values of 90-96%, for the duration of exposure up to ca. 24 h; 2) in the relative humidity range of 75-96% the correction coefficient linearly depends on the duration of exposure reaching a value of ca. 16 for 96 h exposure; 3) the PicoRad system delivers results corresponding better to the mean value of radon concentration in the last 6 h interval of exposure than that in the whole exposure duration. This finding is particularly important for the calibration of PicoRad collectors in the conditions of decreasing radon concentration due to radon decay.

Opis:
The objective of the paper was to evaluate the influence of variable humidity conditions, especially dynamic water absorption from air, on the extrudated products. The material used for the research was the wheat - corn extrudate processed in a double-screw extruder. During the storage in the climatic chamber three factors influenced the investigated samples: temperature, relative humidity and the storage time. It was found that extrudates were characterized with considerable sensibility on variable conditions of the storage. Rapid growth of the absorbed humidity mass, particularly in the initial hours of the storage in the climatic chamber was reported.

Opis:
Principles of pulse-jet filters used in the woodworking industry. The pulse-jet filters used to separate wood dust and factors influencing their operation were described in this paper. The analysis of the possibility of the use of pulse-jet filters for wood dust separation presented in this work was based on two basic quantitative criteria. These are the separation efficiency and the pressure drop in the filtration process performed in a dust collector. The influence of wood dust type, filtration velocity and air relative humidity the separation efficiency and the pressure were described.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the spatial variation of vapour pressure (e), relative humidity (f) and vapour pressure deficit (Δ) on the clear−cut and gap as well as to compare the spatial distribution of air humidity conditions on both areas. The research was carried out in Rogów Forest Experimental Station (51.827023°N, 19.922315°E) on a clear−cut with a width of 60 m and on a gap of an ellipsoid shape (40×70 m). The measurements were carried out in two series: spring−summer, i.e. in the period when the height of the sun during the day conditioned inflow of direct solar radiation to any surface (May−August 2006), and autumn, i.e. when direct radiation was limited by neighbouring stands (October−November 2006). We found the modest spatial diversification of vapour pressure that, on average, amounted to 0.4 and 0.2 hPa in the clear−cut and gap, respectively, in spring−summer period as well as 0.3 and 0.7 hPa, respectively, in the autumn. The major impact of the clear−cut and gap location was marked in relative humidity and humidity deficit. Differences in relative humidity on the clear−cut amounted averagely to 3.7 and on the gap 12.7%, whereas the humidity deficit equalled 0.3 and 5.4 hPa, respectively. Particularly large diversification of relativity humidity and vapour pressure deficit was in spring−summer period in the situation of heat waves. In that weather conditions in sun−filled clear−cut and gap parts, the relativity humidity fall to about 17%, whereas vapour pressure deficit increased to about 60 hPa. In the same clear−cut and gap parts the occurrence of dry days was more frequent that in other places. It was noticed that in the positions located in sun−filled clear−cut and gap parts (z4, g3), the diurnal vapour pressure course was very similar to the one observed in the forest, whereas the course of the relativity humidity and vapour pressure deficit was significantly different. That is mainly involved with the extreme thermal conditions in this parts of the studied areas. The least beneficial humidity conditions for plants growth occurred in the north−east parts of clear−cut and gap, that’s why it necessary to take particular note of these locations when undertaking the silvicultural treatments.

Opis:
The thesis presents the analysis of development of selected parameters of microclimate in a standalone cellar plunged into soil. The scope of studies included measurement of air internal and external temperature and relative humidity of internal and external air. The thesis also concerns the analysis of heat exchange of cellar compartments with the surrounding soil. The studies were carried out from July 11, 2012 to July 10, 2013. The analysis of the obtained results of studies proved that the internal air temperature in the examined cellar was mainly formed by the external air temperature as well as by the surrounding soil. For 42% of storage period, the thermal conditions in the cellar plunged into soil were unfavorable which disqualifies the cellar’s purpose for storage of vegetables, e.g. potatoes. Too high temperature was observed in the initial and final period. Favorable storage conditions were experienced only in the period from December 14, 2012 to April 11, 2013. To adjust this kind facility for storage of vegetables, thermal insulation of compartments and installation of cooling units is required.
