Opis:: This article gives an overview of dimensional approach to religiousness; from the socioreligious core dimensions of religiousness of Stark & Glock (1968) to interdisciplinary model of religiosity od Huber with core dimensions, the centrality and content of religiosity (2003; 2008). The overview demonstrates the development of the succesive concepts of dimensional approach to religion as well as the constructed assesment techniques and their empirical applications. Then are the five core dimensions of religiousness (intelectual, ideological, experiencial, ritual, concequencial) synthetically organized by psychological contents. Especially the interdisciplinary model of religiosity of Huber is suitable for monitoring and interpreting religiousness of individuals, groups, of pantheistic or theistic patterns of religious expressions.

In the chapter forming of religiousness in young adults in the view of current concepts, both normative (stadial concepts of religiousness) and non-normative, will be presented. The majority of research on religiousness of youth is carried out in the normative understanding of development, which refers to general trends of human psychological development, especially cognitive development (cognitive developmental concepts of religiousness), personality development (humanistic concepts of the development of religiousness) and social-emotional development (psychodynamic concepts of the development of religiousness). A cognitive-developmental concept of religiousness by Walesa seems particularly promising as it allows for a thorough view on religiousness, which is especially evident in the analyses of the dynamics of development and subtle changes in religious life, possible because of a stadial, structural-functional and psychogenetic view on the development of religiousness. Striving to fully comprehend the issue of the development of religiousness in young adults the chapter was enriched with a review of research on the role and various correlates of religiousness in everyday life of young adults.

Opis:: The text contains fragments of research results conducted within the framework of the project about dimensions of teachers’ religiousness (in Bialystok). Methodological conception of research was based on the diagnostic procedure and the triangulation strategy of methods and sources. In the quantitative orientation two research tools were used: The Santa Clara Strength of Religious Faith Questionnaire (T.G. Plante, M. Boccaccini) and Dimensions of the Religiousness Questionnaire (E. Krysztofik-Gogol). The biographical method with the semi-structured interview was used in the quality research orientation. Religiousness appears to a different degree and in a different way in teachers’ life. In the individual aspect of teachers’ life, religiousness constitutes a strong source of support in making important decisions and religious coping strategy. In the family life of examined teachers religiousness is connected with religious traditions and constitutes the element of educational influences. A social dimension of religiousness in teachers’ life is connected with tolerance shown to people of different faith.

Opis:: This dissertation is an attempt to show selective attitudes in religiousness of inhabitants of Maków Podhalański.
Praca stanowi próbę ujęcia postaw o charakterze selektywnym w religijności mieszkańców Makowa Podhalańskiego. Jej zasadniczym założeniem jest przekonanie o realności zmian zachodzących w obszarze religii i religijności współczesnych społeczeństw. Zmiany te wiążą się ściśle z procesami sekularyzacji, pluralizacji oraz prywatyzacji, które od lat pozostają szeroko dyskutowanymi tematami w środowisku socjologów. Nie ulega wątpliwości, że zachodzące w krajach zachodnich zmiany o charakterze społeczno-religijnym dotykają również polskie społeczeństwo. W rzeczywistości, w której wartości chrześcijańskie stopniowo tracą na znaczeniu, przy jednoczesnym wzroście konkurencji na światopoglądowym rynku, religijność nabiera selektywnego charakteru. Konsekwencją takiego ujęcia jest podstawowa teza mojej pracy, która zakłada iż realizacja katolickiego systemu znaczeń przez jednostkę nie odbywa się w sposób pełny. Oznacza to, że współcześni katolicy przejawiają postawy selektywne i nie realizują w pełni systemu znaczeń przekazywanego przez Kościół katolicki. Reprezentują jedynie jego wybrane elementy.Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. Pierwszy rozdział stanowi próbę zdefiniowania samego pojęcia religii, prezentuje socjologiczne sposoby jej ujmowania, a także zwraca uwagę na najczęściej popełniane błędy metodologiczne. Drugi rozdział przybliża zrozumienie zjawiska sekularyzacji, pluralizacji i prywatyzacji religii. Opisuje również przemiany zachodzące w obszarze religijności polskiego społeczeństwa. Z kolei rozdział trzeci stanowi przybliżenie celu badań, ich zaplecza teoretycznego, a także analizę materiału empirycznego. W pracy zawarte zostało również zakończenie podsumowujące uzyskane wyniki, a także aneks z narzędziem badawczym.

The article is a review of selected works by Janusz Mariański that are focused on the problem of modern transformations of religiousness. The author presents the theory of secularization, subjecting its classical form to criticism and confronting it with alternative theories – among others, those of pluralization and individualization of religiousness. The presented contents are compared with the conclusions drawn from J. Mariański’s research on religiousness of young people in Poland.

Opis:: This article discusses the findings of the survey investigating the influence of faith and religious beliefs on students’ family plans, as well as the students’ understanding of the ethical and moral aspects of marital life and cohabitation. The survey involved the full-time students in the last two years of different master’s degree majors offered at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology. The answers that the respondents gave to the survey questions allowed determining their views on different aspects of family life in relation to their religious beliefs. The questions were divided into two parts. One of them investigated the respondents’ opinions about their prospective family life, such as entering into a marriage and having children. The second part asked about the ethical and moral aspects of family life and co- habitation, for instance partners living together before marriage, divorce, the use of contraceptives and the abortion pill, surgical abortion.

Opis:: Artykuł zawiera wyniki oraz analizę badań przeprowadzonych na grupie licealistów, uczniów krakowskiego liceum plastycznego. Autor bada problem religijności subiektywnej młodych respondentów. This article discuses the role of subjective religiousness among contemporary people. The theoretical and empirical approaches showing that while modernization does have secularizing effects, it also provokes a reaction that more often strengthens religion (especially subjective, intensive, autonomic religiousness). In this paper projection method were used to examine the functioning of subjective religiousness among artistically gifted young people. Ss (N=296 aged 15–20 yrs) had to finish sentences: 1. “I’m sadly …”, 2. “I treasure, I like …”, 3. “Rational analysis…”, 4. “God in my life...” . The results of qualitative analysis suggest that subjective religiousness have common and specific dimensions (conditioning, consequence meaning and typology). The findings revealed that the majority of the youth define themselves from one hand as nontraditional and not orthodox, from second hand as ultra religious and mystical. His religiousness is deep, latent and emotionally very intensive. Implications are considered for future research on religiousness.

Opis:: Aims: (1) The correlations between: (1.1) various aspects of religiousness and (1.2) age, anxiety-state, anxiety-trait, locus of control, and, in the group of patients with shizophrenia: span of treatment, rate of therapy, ego psychopathology, paranoid and depression dimensions, self-rating of state of self-feeling, state of feeling of illness, and quality of life and (2) the comparison of various aspects of religiousness of patients with schizophrenia and healthy people were studied. Methods: The Scale of Christian Religiousness, Individual Religiousness Scale, Intrinsic, Extrinsic and Quest Religious Orientation Scales, Scale of Fundamentalism, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Rotter’s questionnaire of locus of control, Scharfetter’s questionnaire of ego psychopathology, Paranoid-Depresivity Scale-abridgment, Frankfurt Self-feeling Scale-abridgment, visual analogy of self-feeling, visual analogy of feeling of illness, and questionnaire of quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) were used in the study. 91 adults both of sexes, 60 patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia according to ICD-10 and DCR-10 in the diagnostic group and 31 healthy persons were studied. Results: It was noticed that: (1) various correlations are manifested between religiousness and psychopathology of patients with schizophrenia; (2) patients diagnosed as having schizophrenia have a significantly higher level of extrinsic religiousness and fundamentalism than healthy individuals; (3) many results pointed out in the bibliography had no verification in these studies. Conclusions: Intrinsic, extrinsic, quest, and orthodox religiousness and fundamentalism realize significant functions in psychopathology of schizophrenia disorder. The knowledge about religiousness of schizophrenia patients can be important for diagnostic and therapeutic processes of the disorder.

Opis:: The article presents some fairly representative trends of changes in the perception of the role and function of religion in everyday life of the young generation (students). A comparison was also made of the level and typological diversity of student religiousness more than two decades apart. The thesis about changing forms of religiousness and ways of expressing it was confirmed (selectivity, syncretization, privatization, decrease in the authority of the Church as a formal institution). A fairly consistent increase in the declared significance of religion in everyday life of the surveyed students and a clear polarization of the meanings attributed to religion were revealed. A proposal was made to gradually instrumentalize the religious sphere and limit its autotelic significance in the everyday life of a young person. The results indicate that religion and individual religiousness do not lose their meaning, but the quality of the meanings assigned to it changes.
