    Opis:
    The article discusses the plausibility of Joanna Zach’s concept described as the “poetic of confession”. “Self discovery” is, for Miłosz, related to Romantic and early-Modernist sources of creative expression, and to poetry as a specific confession of faith. This, in turn, assumes an unending tension between biography, immersed in concrete reality, and its textual representation (the truth of life is confronted with the truth of poetry). What follows is that for Miłosz the key category is experience, suspended between history and the present, and between reality and its textual transformation.

    When the big leap forward of computer technology took place for the general public in the 80s and 90s, virtual reality technology (VR) was touted as the “next big thing” that digital media would bring into our lives. Janet Murray’s influential book Hamlet on the Holodeck (1997) explored the possibility of turning narrative into the “immersive, interactive experience generated by a computer” that defines VR. But VR did not live up to its expectations, and after the year 2000, it faded from the radar of popular interest. It regained attention around 2011 when Mark Zuckerberg, the founder/CEO of Facebook, bought Oculus Rift, the maker of a relatively cheap and lightweight head-mounted display. Currently available VR narratives are distinguished from other digital narratives through three-dimensional images, interactive panoramic representations, and the ability to manipulate our experience of our own body. In this article I discuss three projects that use some of these resources in order to assess the storytelling potential of the medium: Clouds Over Sidra, a documentary about a camp for Syrian refugees in Jordan; Hard World for Small Things, a fictionalized version of the shooting of an unarmed black man by white policemen; and VRwandlung, a project that puts the user in the situation of the hero of Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, who wakes up one day to discover that he has been transformed into a giant insect. Basing my judgment of this limited corpus, I assess the potential of VR narrative with respect to four kinds of immersion: ludic, spatial, temporal and emotional.

    Opis:
    Beyond immediate references to the introductory paper, one may find in the commentaries a set of other interesting issues. They are left to another occasion, since the focus here is on remarks inviting further elaboration on the main theses’ clarification and grounding. It goes in three directions, to (i) clarify the difference between a rejection of British empiricism as a misleading theory of human cognition and a postulate to replace it with an adequate theory of cognitive reference to the truth of believes about the objects of experience in the world of human culture and civilization, (ii) dismiss from the theory of human knowledge the belief in the construction of mind-representations of the objects of cognition, and to focus instead on the relation of reference in judgments to the independent objects of knowledge within the human world, and (iii) to ground the objective status of the ideal of truth and the other values within the world of culture and civilization arrangements.

    W pracy tej próbuje jak najdokładniej zrekonstruować pojęcie qualiów, używając rozstrzygnięć wywodzących się z tradycji fenomenologicznej (m. in. problemy pre-refleksyjnej samoświadomości, umysłu ucieleśnionego, qualiów kognitywnych) oraz wyników neuronauk (m. in. split-brain, ślepowidzenie, percepcja wzrokowa, mikroświadomość). Następnie szukam teorii, która najlepiej opisywałaby tak, możliwie najdokładniej, zarysowane qualia. Wykazuję, że większość postulatów fenomenologicznych, neurobiologicznych i zdroworozsądkowych spełniają dwie teorie reprezentacji - teoria FOR Tye'a i HOT Carruthersa. Metateoretycznym problemem jest status ontologiczny qualiów – kontrowersja, czy mogą być one zredukowane do własności fizycznych. Szczegółowo omawiam argument Chalmersa z zombie przeciw możliwości takiej redukcji oraz materialistyczne odpowiedzi przeciw niemu. Wykazuję, że pewien wariant strategii konceptów fenomentalnych może poradzić sobie z dwuwymiarową wersją argumentu z zombie. Pokazuję również, w jaki sposób preferowane przeze mnie teorie reprezentacji, które należą do materializmu typu B, według typologii Chalmersa, wspierają strategię konceptów fenomenalnych.
    In this paper, I try to reconstruct in maximum detail the notion of qualia using some important ideas coming from the phenomenological tradition (i.e. pre-reflexive self-consciousness, embodied cognition, cognitive qualia) as well as empirical results of neuroscience (i.e. split-brain, blindsight, visual perception, microconsciousness). Then, I look for a theory which best describes the notion of qualia, received in this way. I show that most of phenomenological, neurobiological and common-sense postulates are met by two representational theories of qualia – Tye’s FOR and Carruthers’ HOT. A metatheoretical problem, which I deal with, is the ontological status of qualia – namely whether they are reducible to physical properties. In this respect, I analyse Chalmers’ zombie argument against this sort of reduction and materialists’ replicas. I show that a certain type of phenomenal concept strategy replies is a promising way of dealing with the two-dimensional version of zombie argument. Moreover, I provide and explanation of how the representational theories, which are type B materialism according to Chalmers’ typology, can support these versions of phenomenal concept strategies.
