Opis:
This study aimed to examine the reliability of trunk extensor strength assessment with a functional electromechanical dynamometer (FEMD). Methods: Thirty-one men performed strength assessment at different velocities (V) (V1 = 0.15 m·s−1, V2 = 0.30 m·s-1, V3 = 0.45 m·-1) and range of movement (R) (R1 = 25% cm; R2 = 50% cm), and isometric contraction at 90º. Reliability was obtained through the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), typical error (TE), and coefficient of variation (CV). Results: The absolute reliability provided stable repeatability of the average eccentric strength in the V1R1 condition (CV = 9.52%) and the maximum eccentric strength in V1R1 (CV = 9.63%) and V2R2 (CV = 9.66%). The relative reliability of the trunk extensor’s average strength was good (ICC = 0.77–0.83) for concentric and good (ICC = 0.78–0.85) and moderate (ICC = 0.67–0.74) for eccentric contraction. Also, good (ICC = 0.77–0.81) and moderate (ICC = 0.55–0.74) reliability of the maximum strength were obtained for concentric and eccentric contraction. The most reliable manifestation to evaluate the concentric (CV = 11.33%) and eccentric (CV = 9.52%) strength was the average strength in the V1R1 condition and the maximum strength (CV = 10.29%) to isometric assessment. The average concentric strength in the V2R2 condition (r = 0.69) and the maximum eccentric strength in the V1R1 condition (r = 0.65) were the best related to the maximum isometric strength. Conclusion: FEMD is a highly reliable device to evaluate trunk extensors strength.

Opis:
Environmental laboratory tests are one of the most frequently performed tests to evaluate materials used, among others, for the construction of rail vehicles. The requirements of the EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard for research laboratories, particularly when evaluating the compliance of materials with the specified requirements, impose on laboratories the need to consider the results of final measurements along with the uncertainties of these results. Due to the complexity of the physical and chemical processes occurring during environmental tests, determining the sources of uncertainty of the measurement result can be very complicated. The article presents one of the methods of estimating the complex uncertainty for environmental tests on the example of corrosion tests using the NORDTEST TR 537 concept of uncertainty estimation. The article presents an exemplary method of uncertainty estimation based on a set of empirical data obtained in an accredited Laboratory for Testing Materials and Structural Elements of the Railway Institute with the use of within-laboratory reproducibility and method bias. Examples of uncertainty estimation depending on the type of tested objects (metal details and paint coatings) and the method of their evaluation after corrosion tests (quantitative and qualitative methods) are presented. The article also briefl y presents the possibilities of interpreting and processing the obtained data as part of the control carried out inside the laboratory on the basis of a simple statistical tool such as Shewhart control charts and the Ishikawa diagram for the method of determining corrosivity in salt chambers, identifying important factors influencing the measurement uncertainty and at the same time showing the complexity the entire research process.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the influence of contrast enhancement (CE) and experience of observers on the assessment of chest lymph nodes in patients with sarcoidosis. Material and methods: A retrospective analysis of chest lymph nodes on computed tomography (CT) examinations, including CE and non-contrast-enhanced (non-CE) phase, was performed on 40 patients with proven diagnosis of sarcoidosis. Phases were separated, anonymized, and randomized. The assessment was performed by 5 observers: 2 general radiologists, 2 residents, and a senior chest CT expert. Results: There were no significant differences between radiologists and residents, apart from the determination of the 4R node short diameter on CE images. Agreement between the reference observer and both residents and specialists was equally high, without any significant difference in the assessment all chest nodes and hilar nodes, and between non-CE and CE images. There was a significant difference between all observers in the determination of the largest 4R node short diameter on non-CE images, but not on CE images. The number of affected node levels was found to be significantly higher when evaluated on CE images than on non-CE images. Compared to CE images, non-CE computed tomography has sensitivity of 0.94-1.00 and specificity of 0.98-1.00, depending on the observer. Conclusions: The application of contrast medium has a limited impact on the quality of assessment of the chest lymph nodes in patients with sarcoidosis, regardless of the experience of the observer.

Opis:
The focal issue of the present paper is the conventional periphrasis as an object of contrastive research. Such expressions may have different cross-linguistic equivalents, including full, partial, parallel and zero counterparts. The present paper aims to discuss Polish periphrastic expressions and their Croatian equivalents in order to determine and analyze the relations between the units in question. The Polish units (165) are lexicographically attested, while their Croatian counterparts have been determined on the basis of dictionaries, corpora and interviews with native speakers of the Croatian language. The conventional periphrasis have not been researched from this perspective and the results may be useful for Polish-Croatian lexicography. The study shows that zero equivalents constitute the biggest group (91), followed by full equivalents (61) with significantly less numerous groups of partial and parallel counterparts (respectively: 5 and 8).

Opis:
The paper presents results related to assessment of the repeatability and reproducibility of the measurement test setup for determination the relative value of the shielding effectiveness coefficient of the industrial connectors. The construction of the proposed test setup, the measurement method and the procedure for the analysis of measurement results were described. To determine the value of the repeatability and reproducibility coefficient, the two–way analysis of variance was used, which additionally allows for an assessment of the influence of individual sources of variance. The measurements and their analysis were conducted for several frequencies in the range up to 1 GHz. Additionally, the expanded measurement uncertainty, including the test setup and instruments uncertainty was estimated.

Opis:
We conducted pre-registered replications of 15 effects in the field of judgment and decision making (JDM). We aimed to test the generalizability of different classical and modern JDM effects, including, among others: less-is- better, anchoring, and framing to different languages, cultures, or current situations (COVID-19 pandemic). Replicated studies were selected and conducted by undergraduate psychology students enrolled in a decision-making course. Two hundred and two adult volunteers completed an online battery of replicated studies. With a classical significance criterion (p < .05), seven effects were successfully replicated (47%), five partially replicated (33%), and three did not replicate (20%). Even though research materials differed from the originals in several ways, the replication rate in our project is slightly above earlier reported findings in similar replication projects. We discuss factors that may underlie replication results (success vs. failure). We also stress the role of open science practices such as open data, open research materials, pre-registration, and registered reports in improving the replicability of results in the JDM field.

Opis:
The evaluation of the measurement system quality has already become an integral part of quality planning activities in both the automotive and metallurgical industries. An important assumption for obtaining the most relia ble results is compliance with the basic assumptions for evaluating the variability of the measurement system. The main goal of this paper is to analyze, how the failure to meet the basic assumptions influences the evaluation of the measurement system's statistical properties. This goal is achieved by performing a detailed analysis of the latest developments in the field of measurement systems analysis aimed at verifying the assumptions of normality and uniformity. The evaluation of the effect of non-fulfillment of both assumptions on the values of the most important statistical properties of the measurement system is performed using simulated data. Suitable graphical tools are used for practical verification of both assumptions.

Opis:
In our laboratory, a 1 kJ vacuum spark device is developed as a pulsed X-ray source for X-ray detector calibration and applications such as X-ray microscopy and microlithography. After our previous works for the X-ray emission maximization (up to around 10 J per pulse), this paper analyses the influence of four different triggering systems on the X-ray emission reproducibility. The main conclusion is that a high-power, very fast high voltage trigger pulse is required. In order to fulfill these conditions, a pulse transformer and an air spark gap have been added to the initial triggering device (a magnetic pulse compression circuit). With the new trigger pulse (20 J/pulse, 50 ns rise-time, 22 kV amplitude in an open circuit) a reasonable X-ray emission reproducibility is obtained.
