Opis:: The article presents the results of analyses aimed at capturing the significance of bricolage emerging from its uses in scientific research practice. The main point of my interest are scientific conceptualizations of the concept of bricolage relating to the practice of defining, characterizing and embedding its meaning in existing theoretical approaches. The empirical basis of the analysis is confined to a set of 47 scientific articles which contain the concept of bricolage in their titles, abstracts, and keywords. Collecting these articles involved searching through such bibliographic databases as Web of Science, Scopus, Wiley, and the Polish National Library Catalogue. The direction of the analysis was inductive and emergent, subordinated to such research issues as: 1. what meanings of bricolage emerge from its use in scientific research practice? 2. how researchers justify the possibility of using bricolage in the practice of social and humanistic research? 3. what theoretical concepts are responsible for creating its meaning? Answering these questions has led me to a reconstruction of three conceptions of bricolage: epistemological bricolage, methodological bricolage, and hybrid bricolage.

Opis:: This paper is about the lives of some working class women and men who chose to return to learn, as adults, in further and higher education in the UK (I need to explain that further education colleges are post-compulsory institutions which deliver academic and vocational courses). Although the focus is on research undertaken in the UK I hope that the voices, experiences, struggles and achievements of the participants in this paper will have resonance and relevance for you here in Poland. The stories are drawn from several research projects which looked at the access, learning experiences and learning identities of working class adults in educational environments which, particularly in the case of higher education, may seem daunting culturally – a different community to the communities where they live and have known. How are these differences resolved? How do they cope in these two contrasting spaces and keep on going on? What impact does learning have on their classed and gendered, and for some, raced identities and communities? These issues are discussed within the context of the UK’s lifelong learning policy.

Opis:: Do analizy i interpretacji pozycji badacza w terenie w artykule użyto pojęć „gość” i „gościnność”. Jednym z milcząco przyjmowanych założeń podejścia etnograficznego jest gościnność osób badanych wobec antropologa. Korzystając z antropologicznych i filozoficznych koncepcji gościnności, w tekście przedstawiono różne wymiary relacji gospodarz–gość (nierówność, zażyłość i zarządzanie reputacją), dążąc do problematyzacji relacji badacz–badany. Pokazano etyczne i poznawcze konsekwencje usytuowania badacza w pozycji gościa: zacieranie się granic między tym co osobiste a tym co profesjonalne, potencjalny konflikt lojalności oraz nadmierną kontrolę badanych nad badaczem. Rozpatrzona jest także sytuacja braku gościnności i braku dostępu do terenu, którą proponuje się uznać za normę, a nie anomalię w praktyce badawczej antropologa. Celem artykułu jest zaproponowanie bardziej pragmatycznej wizji badań etnograficznych i zwrócenie uwagi na strukturalne uwarunkowania relacji badacz–badany, niebędące wynikiem wyborów etycznych jednostek.
The notions of “hospitality” and “a guest” are used in the article in order to analyze and interpret a researcher’s position during field-work. In an ethnographic approach the hospitality of study subjects towards anthropologists is often taken for granted. Relying on anthropological and philosophical conceptualizations of hospitality, different dimensions of host-guest relation (inequality, intimacy and reputation management) are demonstrated in order to reveal the problematic nature of the conceptualization of ethnographer-study subjects’ relation through the notion of hospitality. The ethical and epistemological consequences of a researcher acting as a guest are shown: the blurring of the boundary between what is personal and what is professional, the potential conflict of loyalties and the excessive control of research subjects over a researcher. The situation of the lack of hospitality – and lack of access to the field – is also presented and viewed as a rule and not an exception of ethnographic methodology. The aim of the article is to propose a more pragmatic vision of ethnographic studies and to draw attention to structural conditionings of ethnographer-research subjects’ relation that are situated beyond the ethical choices of individuals.

Opis:: There is substantial agreement on the relevance of the questions raised by Jerzy M. Brzeziński and on the proposed answers. The common use of English in international scientific communication should not lead to neglecting the proper media of diffusing psychological knowledge in local languages. The current concern for assessing the quality of psychological research and research institutions should be accompanied by an equal concern for proper criteria to assess the quality of psychological practice and of practitioner education. The criteria of evaluating both research and practice should be grounded on solid psychological theories.

Tytuł:: "Safe Cracow" as an example of city prevention programme developed at the basis of research

Opis:: The main goal of this paper is to present an example of city prevention programme aimed at safety in the city designed and implemented in the city of Cracow in 2018-2020. Introduction will give some information about broader programme "Safe Cracow" and its modules such as: safe traffic, safe space, safe school and help. Special attention will be given to its school focused module “Safe school”. It will be described giving main assumptions and rules that were taken into account when preparing this module. Paper will also show how the programme was designed with reference to recent research on city and school safety with special attention paid to ideas of resilient city and sustainability. On such a basis some examples of practical actions undertaken will be shown with special attention to cooperation of social services as main feature of the programme. Example of practical work with group of 30 schools will be presented and discussed with some practical recommendations for further improvement of such programmes of school based interprofessional prevention work.

Starting from auto-biographical experience, the text shifts into a more theoretical reflection about this part of the scholarly work, which is hidden and unstudied. Opis:: Celem artykułu jest analiza związku między kulturą i praktyką badawczą. Pierwsza odniesiona jest do postaw propozycjonalnych, gdzie owo odniesienie ma charakter intersubiektywny. Ostatnia ujęta jest w kategoriach ludzkich interakcji. Ich odpowiedni składnik, czyli jednostkowe działanie fizykalne, jest przykładem zdarzenia fizykalnego. Praktyka ta jest wpleciona w inne praktyki społeczne (takie jak zdroworozsądkowa lub religijna), wobec czego relacja między tym, co społeczne, i tym, co kulturowe, ma charakter holistyczny i dynamiczny. Autor omawia kilka stanowisk, które wiązały się z poszczególnymi tematami lub problemami omawianego związku, aby wskazać wielość jego aspektów. Na koniec ta analiza służyć ma odsłonięciu wymiaru wielokulturowego, w ramach którego można podchodzić do praktyki badawczej.
The article aims at analysing a link between culture and a research practice. The former is referred to the propositional attitudes, where this reference is of intersubjective nature. The latter is given in terms of the human interactions. Their relevant component, that is, an individual’s physical action is an instance of a physical event. The author’s claim is that culture conditions the research practice. This practice is interwoven into other social practices (like commonsense or religious), so that the relation between the social and the cultural is of a holistic and dynamic nature. The author discusses a number of positions which have dealt with the particular topics or problems of the link in question to show how many facets this link may have. Finally, the analysis is to reveal the multicultural dimension in which the research practice may be approached.

Opis:: When academic students are introduced to scientific work, they need to become familiar with how to select a research topic, to identify research goals, and to structure a research project accordingly. In Business Informatics, research practice is increasingly following a design science approach. In this contribution, we introduce a corresponding digital support scheme. It is based on cognitive apprenticeship and scaffolding to specify the research questions and derive requirements from a problem statement for possible solutions. Learners are supported in a socio-cognitive way, as the set of digital learning-support features comprises peer-to-peer interactions, content co-construction, and a portfolio-like documentation scheme. Context-sensitive (focused) interaction and organizing group work facilitate content co-creation and effective information sharing. They support self-managed scientific skill development while being able to follow structured research procedures.

Opis:: This article was written on the basis of the project ‘See Culture: The Archive of Visual Materials from Research into Culture in Poland’ conducted in 2014. It speaks of the internet creation of a social database using visual materials—the Visual Archive (archiwumwizualne.pl). The authors present their ﬁndings from interviews with members of the research teams and directors of the projects that were included in the internet archive. These primarily concern the various approaches and research practices of the interlocutors and their deﬁnitions of visual material’s potential as a tool in social research. The proﬁles of the researchers presented earlier is then compared to the category of the practice-oriented intellectual, which broadens the classical understanding of the intellectual and points to an emerging manner of thinking about research practice in contemporary social sciences. The usefulness of the Visual Archive for the practice-oriented intellectual is indicated.
