Opis:: Mathematical models are commonly used at the stage of piston ring design and during examination of ring collaboration with liner surface. Both analytical and numerical methods are used for development of such models. In the case of models based on analytical methods the range of their application is usually limited only to selected cases while the use of numerical methods allow to widen the range of their applications but their accuracy depends on increment used. The paper presents a procedure of verification of the piston ring mathematical model constructed by the authors using numerical methods. Conformity between the results obtained using this program and the results of analytical calculations concerning the displacement of ring free ends brought about by the acting loads was the aim of the analysis. Exemplary computations were carried out for three compression rings of different geometry. Regarding the conformity of achieved results as satisfactory for practical use probable causes of observed discrepancies were pointed out. Relations between energy accumulated in curved bar and loading force (according to the Castiliano's theorem) were used in a course of calculations. Exemplary calculations were carried out for compression rings of three types engine, i.e. automotive, bulldozer and marine ones. A probable cause of differences between results of calculations carried out according to various analytical methods have been pointed out assuming their accuracy as satisfactory for practical purposes.

Opis:: This paper studies effective aspects of semiperfect rings from the standpoint of reverse mathematics. Based on first-order Jacobson radicals of rings, we define a ring R with the Jacobson radical Jac(R) to be semiperfect if the quotient ring R/Jac(R) is semisimple, and idempotents of the quotient ring can be lifted to R. Using elementary matrix operations in linear algebra, we show that RCA₀ proves a characterization of semiperfect rings in terms of idempotents of rings. Semiperfect rings are generalizations of semisimple rings and local rings, and semiperfect rings R with R/Jac(R) simple are isomorphic to matrix rings over local rings. Based on the effective characterization of semiperfect rings via idempotents, we prove the structure theorem of semiperfect rings R with R/Jac(R) simple in RCA₀. Left perfect rings or right perfect rings are always semiperfect. Finally, we provide a proof for the structure theorem of one-sided perfect rings R with R/Jac(R) simple in WKL₀.

Opis:: In this paper, we study super strongly clean group rings for different classes of rings and groups. Mainly, we prove the following results: (1) Let $R$ be a ring with $2\in J(R)$ and $G$ be a locally finite $2$-group. Then the group ring $RG$ is super strongly clean if and only if $R$ is super strongly clean. (2) If $R$ is a local ring with $p\in J(R)$ and $G$ is a locally finite $p$-group, then the group ring $RG$ is super strongly clean. (3) If $R$ is an abelian exchange ring with $2\in J(R)$ and $G$ is a locally finite $2$-group, then the group ring $RG$ is super strongly clean.

Opis:: We study unitary rings of characteristic 2 satisfying identity $x^p = x$ for some natural number p. We characterize several infinite families of these rings which are Boolean, i.e., every element is idempotent. For example, it is in the case if $p = 2^{n} - 2$ or $p = 2^{n} - 5$ or $p = 2^{n} + 1$ for a suitable natural number n. Some other (more general) cases are solved for p expressed in the form $2^{q} + 2m + 1$ or $2^{q} + 2m$ where q is a natural number and $m ∈ {1,2,...,2^{q} - 1}$.

Opis:: The paper describes the design of compression rings used in low-speed, high power marine engines and it analyses relations between the most important operational parameters. Ring material, dimensions, geometry of sliding surfaces, distribution of circumferential pressure as well as operational conditions (thermal and mechanical loads, way of lubrication) were taken into consideration for the analysis mentioned above. Moreover, the paper points at modifications in ring geometry that have been happening for last years, comparing previous and recent designs. The effect of ring circumferential pressure against liner on the piston-cylinder assembly operation has been considered and the causes of its variability have been pointed out as well. When presenting the methods of measurement and tangential force calculations basic advantages and disadvantages have been presented as well as the evaluation of changes resulting from the ring circumferential wear. The compression ring mathematical model developed by the authors allows for a precise definition of relations between ring geometry and distribution of ring circumferential pressure. A need for a more accurate method of ring circumferential pressure evaluation has been justified in summary, giving hints necessaryfor its preparation.

Opis:: For a ring A with an involution *, the zero-divisor graph of A, Γ*(A), is the graph whose vertices are the nonzero left zero-divisors in A such that distinct vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if xy* = 0. In this paper, we study the zero-divisor graph of a Rickart *-ring having no nonzero nilpotent element. The distance, diameter, and cycles of Γ*(A) are characterized in terms of the collection of prime strict ideals of A. In fact, we prove that the clique number of Γ*(A) coincides with the cellularity of the hullkernel topological space Σ(A) of the set of prime strict ideals of A, where cellularity of the topological space is the smallest cardinal number m such that every family of pairwise disjoint non-empty open subsets of the space have cardinality at most m.
