Opis:
Clients’ satisfaction with financial advice provided by professional advisors depends on how this advice has fulfilled their expectations and goals. However, once a recommendation is made, a client is unable to predict and evaluate the real financial outcome of the advisor’s proposal. In such a case, she/he can base her/his assessment on the characteristics ascribed to the financial advisor: her/his epistemic authority (competence) and level of caring. Additionally, clients expect to receive a “tailor-made” solution that takes into account her/his individual needs and characteristics. In the present study, we asked participants to evaluate financial experts who had recommended risky vs safe investments. The recommendations were congruent or incongruent with the clients’ risk tolerance (high vs low). The kind of recommendation influenced the participants’ evaluations of the advisors (and as a result, the clients’ perceived satisfaction) only for low-risk tolerance clients. For these clients, investment recommendations that were not adjusted to their levels of risk tolerance led to lower evaluations of the advisors and consequently to lower evaluation of satisfaction with their visits. These lower evaluations regarded both dimensions: the interpersonal aspect (caring) and competence in the field of finance (epistemic authority). Such incongruence between risk tolerance and the riskiness of the recommendation did not affect high-risk tolerance clients’ advisor evaluations.

The geological object (deposit) is a specific type of asset of mining enterprise which cannot be quantitatively or qualitatively interchangeably measured. In spite of rapid development of geological and economic sciences, still none of universal method of evaluation of value of resources has been settled yet. In the article, on the example of the oil sector, author described chosen methods of the mathematical statistics and the financial mathematics tools, which are used in the risk assessment related to estimating the fair market value of hydrocarbons. In the article the following subjects are presented: - the hyperbolic lognormal distribution in the exploration risk assessment, - the exponential utility function and the evaluation of the real option in the economic risk assessment. For each area of risk assessment is to recommend software. Statistical methods and the financial engineering used in estimating the fair value of the properties, are from many years the topic of numerous scientific publications and research. Many of the studies has indicated the importance of mathematical methods in solving problems in the area, where not long ago intuition and experience of evaluator of deposit were mainstream.

Opis:
As aircraft fleets age, maintaining operational readiness at an affordable cost becomes increasingly challenging. This is largely due to the rise in Preventive Maintenance Task Requirements (PMTRs) outlined in the Aircraft Maintenance Program (AMP). While aging aircraft may require more frequent inspections, leveraging data from prior inspections enables the optimization of inspection intervals based on risk, ensuring cost efficiency by minimizing unnecessary downtime, while maintaining the required safety level. The primary objective of the AMP is to ensure the airworthiness and operational readiness of an aircraft system throughout their service life. To achieve this, it is essential to establish an acceptable level of risk as a basis for determining optimal PMTR recurrence. The SMART|DT tool, developed with FAA funding, provides a robust framework for conducting risk assessments of aircraft structures using Probabilistic Damage Tolerance Analysis (PDTA), which effectively assesses and manages the risk of structural failure. During the sustainment phase of the Swiss Air Force F/A 18 fleet, data-driven analyses within SMART|DT, and other tailored statistical tools, were performed to evaluate the risks associated with various PMTR intervals. This paper will explain the methodology applied to both Safe-Life and Damage-Tolerance structures, with real-world applications to demonstrate how inspection intervals can be optimized. By doing so, PMTR recurrence can be fine-tuned to enhance aircraft readiness and program affordability while maintaining an acceptable level of safety.

Opis:
Although risk is often considered in the context of maladaptive behaviors, risks can also be positive, allowing individuals to pursue meaningful goals in a socially accepted way. In this study, we were interested in examining psychological profiles associated with positive and negative risk-taking in adults (N = 275, ages 19–71 years, M = 39.25; SD = 13.73) using latent profile analysis. Specifically, we examined whether distinct profiles of psychological characteristics such as future time perspective, tolerance to ambiguity, and sensitivity to reward and punishment are differentially associated with positive and negative risk-taking. We used the Future Time Perspective Scale (FTPS), the Multiple Stimulus Types Ambiguity Tolerance Scale (MSTAT-II), the Short Version of the Sensitivity to Punishment and Sensitivity to Reward Scale (SPSRQ-SF), the Positive Risk-Taking Scale (PRTS), and the Negative Risk-Taking Scale (NRTS). Findings yielded two profiles: individuals in the first profile, characterized by lower sensitivity to punishment and higher tolerance to ambiguity, future time perspective, and sensitivity to reward, endorsed greater positive and negative risk-taking. Conversely, individuals in the second profile, characterized by heightened sensitivity to punishment and lower tolerance to ambiguity, future time perspective, and sensitivity to reward, endorsed lower positive and negative risk-taking. The study contributes to previous findings by identifying additional psychological characteristics that may be associated with both positive and negative risk-taking in adults.

Opis:
INTRODUCTION. The main objective of this screening survey was to determine the prevalence of undiagnosed diabetes mellitus (DM), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and to evaluate the distribution of diabetes risk factors in primary care population aged 45 or more in Poland. MATERIAL AND METHODS. Each general practitioner participating in the study, selected 100 consecutive patients aged 45 or more. Patients were asked to fill in the "Self-evaluation questionnaires". High risk patients (at least two symptoms or two risk factors or one symptom and one risk factor including age) were qualified to the random capillary blood glucose (RCBG) measurement. Patients with RCBG level below 100 mg/dl (5.5 mmol/l) were considered as nondiabetics. Patients with RCBG level ≥ 200 mg/dl (11.1 mmol/l) were considered to be diabetic. Those with RCBG ≥ 100 mg/dl but < 200 mg/dl were offered fasting plasma glucose measurement (FPG) and further were screened for diabetes according to European Diabetes Policy Group 1998-1999 and WHO 1999 guidelines. RESULTS. 127 primary care physicians from all over the country participated in the study. 12 446 patients returned "Self-evaluation questionnaires". 10.2% patients in this group had previously diagnosed diabetes mellitus. 11 418 patients over 45 years old were included into the statistical analysis, out of 11 900 patients participating in the study. Finally the prevalence of undiagnosed DM, IFG and IGT was 5.4%, 1.7% and 1.3% respectively. In patients with newly diagnosed glucose metabolism disturbances (DM + + IFG + IGT), frequency of diabetes risk factors (BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2, WHR > 0,85 in women and WHR > 0,9 in men, family history of DM, hypertension, dyslipidemia, previously identified hiperglycemia, in women: delivery of a baby weighing > 4.5 kg) was significantly higher (p < 0.001) than in patients without disturbances in glucose metabolism . CONCLUSIONS 1. Previously undiagnosed diabetes mellitus was discovered in 5,4% of the primary care population over 45 years old. Prediabetic state - IFG or IGT - was found in 1.7% and 1.3% respectively. 2. Patients with known and unknown diabetes constituted as much as 15.6% of total number of patients (over 45 years old) treated by primary care physicians and this group of physicians was dealing with 18.6% patients with carbohydrate disturbances. 3. Physicians found "Self-evaluation questionnaires" for patients as feasible and helpful in the screening for diabetes risk factors and symptoms. Diagnostic pathway proposed in the study, was evaluated as easy to implement in general practice.
WSTĘP. Podstawowym celem programu przesiewowego była ocena częstości nierozpoznanej cukrzycy typu 2 (DM, diabetes mellitus), nieprawidłowej glikemii na czczo (IFG, impaired fasting glucose) i nieprawidłowej tolerancji glukozy (IGT, impaired glucose tolerance) oraz dystrybucji czynników ryzyka cukrzycy wśród pacjentów powyżej 45. roku życia, zgłaszających się do lekarzy pierwszego kontaktu w Polsce. MATERIAŁ I METODY. Jeżeli glikemia przygodna we krwi włośniczkowej wynosiła poniżej 100 mg/dl (5,6 mmol/l), pacjent kończył udział w badaniu. Jeżeli glikemia przygodna wynosiła 200 mg/dl (11,1 mmol/l) lub więcej, u chorego rozpoznawano cukrzycę. Pacjentów, u których glikemia przygodna była większa lub równa 100 mg/dl, ale mniejsza niż 200 mg/dl kwalifikowano do oceny glikemii na czczo w osoczu krwi żylnej (FPG, fasting plasma glucose) i dalszej diagnostyki prowadzonej zgodnie z algorytmem rozpoznawania cukrzycy według wytycznych European Diabetes Policy Group 1998–1999 oraz Światowej Organizacji Zdrowia (WHO, World Health Organization) 1999. WYNIKI. 2. Pacjenci z cukrzycą znaną i nieznaną stanowili aż 15,6% ogółu badanych (> 45. rż.) pozostających pod opieką lekarzy podstawowej opieki zdrowotnej, a całość problematyki zaburzeń gospodarki węglowodanowej w praktyce tych lekarzy dotyczyła 18,6% pacjentów. 3.
