Opis:: The paper presents the issue of the sanctity and the history of the procedures worked out by the Roman Catholic Church of the canonization. Canonization is the act by which a particular Christian church declares a dead person to be a saint and is included in the canon. Originally, individuals were recognized as saints without any formal process. Canonization, whether formal or informal, does not make someone a saint: it is only a declaration that the person is a saint and was a saint even before canonization.

Art is a place where sanctity resides, a subject which presents a relation between sacrum and profanum. The relation is created by man and it does not have to come from religious affiliation. Even irreligious people have their own sacrum which is guarded protectively.

Opis:: Artykuł jest omówieniem fenomenu osobowości transgresyjnej na przykładzie Żywotów świętych Piotra Skargi. Każdy z bohaterów tego utworu posiada biografię transgresyjną, to znaczy, poprzez swoje życie dokonuje aktu przekształcenia siebie oraz wyjścia (transgressio) poza porządek profanum i przejścia w porządek sacrum. Narzędziem opisu tego fenomenu są pojęcia z zakresu psychologii transgresyjnej. Praca ma charakter wstępu do dalszych badań.
The article discusses the phenomenon of transgressive personality based on the example of Lives of the Saints by Piotr Skarga. Each of the heroes of this work has a transgressive biography, that is, through his life they makes an act of transforming himself and leaving (transgressio) beyond the order of profanity and the transition to the order of the sacred. The notion of transgressive psychology is a tool for describing this phenomenon. The work is an introduction to further research.

Opis:: The aim of the article is to present widowhood as a way to attaining Christian perfection in Piotr Skarga’s Lives of the Saints. The work, addressed to all the representatives of the spheres of life in the 16th and 17th century Poland, includes selected role models of widows, e.g. St. Elizabeth of Hungary or St. Bridget of Sweden. The main components of the model under discussion are: intensive spiritual life, detachment from the world and its pleasures, avoiding further marriages, poverty and deeds of charity. In the construction of the perfect widow, Skarga follows the writings of St. Paul and the lives of the religious.

Opis:: Jacek Krawczyk (1966-1991) świecki katolik, studiujący teologię na KUL, doskonale zrealizował ideał chrześcijanina przez życie wiarą, nadzieją i miłością oraz praktykowanie cnót moralnych prowadzących do służenia Bogu i człowiekowi. Otrzymał staranne wychowanie religijne i przez pogłębione życie modlitwy odkrywał drogę swojego świeckiego powołania do świętości, które zostało potwierdzone przez jego heroiczną miłość w służbie chorym i ubogim. Głębia wiary i zaufania wobec Boga wyraziła się nade wszystko przez mężne znoszenie śmiertelnej choroby, w której karmiony sakramentami, do końca okazał się świadkiem miłości do Chrystusa Ukrzyżowanego. Jacek jest wzorem młodego człowieka, który zachowując wrażliwość na piękno i dobro oraz ciesząc się życiem w małżeństwie, konsekwentnie dojrzewał do wieczności.
Jacek Krawczyk (1966-1991), a secular Catholic who studied theology at Catholic University of Lublin perfectly realized the ideal of a Christian by living with faith, hope and love, and practicing the moral virtues that lead him to serve God and man. He received thorough religious education and through the deepened life of prayer, he discovered the path of his secular calling to holiness, which was confirmed by his heroic love in the service of the sick and the poor. The depth of faith and trust in God has been expressed above all by the courageous endure of a deadly illness in which he was fed by the sacraments, until the end he became a witness to the love of Christ crucified. Jacek is an example of a young man who, being sensitive to beauty and good and enjoying life in marriage, has consistently matured to eternity.

Opis:: In the paper, we attempt a semantic analysis of patient quality of life, which plays an important role in evaluating the patient’s condition and health. The issue seems to be the most important in palliative-hospice care, where doctors work with seriously or terminally ill patients. One of the aims of this branch of medicine is to improve quality of life. This may be achieved, among others, by recognizing the current problems the patient is facing pertaining to family and social relations, beliefs, views or religion. Moreover, by monitoring the behavior of patients and symptoms of their illnesses, the best therapy methods may be selected. Patient quality of life assessment may also enable comparing health care units of the same specialization and be used for the selection of the best standards of care. When discussing the broader meaning of "quality of life", we caution against equating quality of life with the value of life. The main arguments are as follows: subjective character of evaluation of quality of life and, in the future, the possibility of postulates for shortening life of poor quality of life patients when funds for their treatment are insufficient. When accepting quality of life as equal to the value of life, it may result in eliminating unprotected and helpless patients and allowing only the strong to live. Later, this may result in the discrimination of seriously and terminally ill people, even those who do not wish to shorten their lives despite experiencing burdensome symptoms and being aware of the incurable nature of their illness.

Opis:: Incredible advances in medical treatment and technology caused a decrease in newborn mortality as well as increase in survival of infants with serious functional and structural deficiencies. This situation creates numerous medico-legal and ethical dilemmas strictly associated with value of life with serious dysfunctions. Opis:: Celem opracowania było przedstawienie potrzeby cudu w dowodzeniu kanonizacyjnym. Autor rozpatrywał fakt uzasadniania i aprobaty cudu oraz propozycje Kongregacji Spraw Kanonizacyjnych odnośnie do tego tematu. Przedstawił procedurę kanonizacyjną, która przeżywała ciągłą ewolucję, a zarazem ukazał, jak akcentowano w niej sprawę cudu i jakie stawiano wymagania do jego akceptacji. W końcowym paragrafie została przedstawiona aktualna procedura kanonizacyjna dotycząca diecezji, a także wymogi samej Kongregacji. Na podstawie dokonanej analizy tekstów prawnych wykazano wartość dowodu z cudu w dowodzeniu świętości kanonizowanej.
The aim of the study was to show the need of a miracle in proving a canonization. We considered the subject of a miracle’s approval. Moreover, we studied the suggestions made by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints related to this topic. Then, we went through the procedures of canonization which was under a continuous development. In addition, we showed the miracle’s necessity and the requirements for its approval. The current procedure of canonization in the diocese and the Congregation’s requirements were presented in the final section. The value of the miracle’s evidence of proving the sanctity has been based on the legal text analysis made during the study.

Jej mąż Patrycjusz był poganinem, a syn Augustyn opuścił Kościół i wstąpił do sekty manichejczyków. Monika modliła się za nich, była cierpliwa i towarzyszyła im. Nawrócili się, przyjęli chrzest i całkowicie zmienili swoje życie. Augustyn został kapłanem, a następnie biskupem. Misja Moniki skończyła się i wówczas mogła już odejść. Jej śmierć była budująca dla rodziny. Prosiła bliskich o modlitwę za nią w czasie Mszy świętej i obiecała, że będzie wstawiała się za nimi u Boga.
Saint Monica is for us an example of the Christian wife and the mother. The human family struggles now with the different difficulties and we do need a good examples of saint women. One of them is the saint Monica who lived in fourth century. She was a person very humble, patient and full of the devotion towards Jesus Christ and His Church. Her husband Patricius was a pagan and her son Augustin abandoned the Church and joined to the Manicheans. Monica prayed for them, was very patient with them and accompanied them. They converted and changed totally their life and received the sacrament of baptism. Augustin became a priest and then a bishop. The mission of saint Monica was over. This saint woman triumphed and she could finish her life. The Monica’s death was a good example for her family. She asked them to pray for her during the Holy Mass and promise them to be very closed to them even after her death.
