Komunikowanie treści o charakterze naukowym z wykorzystaniem Twittera w niszy #AcademicTwitter
Communicating scientific content using Twitter in the #AcademicTwitter niche
Autorzy:
Gaweł, Hanna
Opis:
Media researchers are aware that they should also be involved in popular scholarly communication outside the academy. Communication strategies can range from following the work and discussions of others, both academic and non-academic, to self-promotion or advertising a particular programme. Over the past few years, we have seen the growing popularity of tweeting, especially among academics, as it has become one of the most widely used methods of recording everyday life in academia. This paper selects eight Twitter accounts run by academics who are nano-influencers and attempts to answer the question of how these academics exert influence in the academic niche on a daily basis, using Stephen Covey's concept of circle of influence and the concept of neoliberalism. The findings suggest that these daily tweets describing academic performance are a vivid manifestation of how Twitter users construct their identities as representatives of contemporary academic society, portraying themselves as organised and motivated entities that show the everyday life of an academic, with its ups and downs in academia.

Opis:
The main goal of the following article is to motivate Polish research units to take journalists into consideration in their external activities - journalists are one of the key groups of recipients guaranteeing prestige and reaching various addressees. The author of this article thinks that one of the basic ways of helping to achieve this goal is to take advantage of the website of an institution and publish there contents addressed to the media (beginning with contact data for journalists). The author would like to encourage representatives of research and scientific organizations to analyse the websites of their institutions and search there for information enabling journalists to establish contact with a particular institution. A starting point for the presentation of this subject are the author's own analyses, which were supposed to check how many Polish scientific units take into consideration in their actions contacts with the media and address the needs of journalists. For this purpose it was investigated whether the websites of scientific institutions have sections dedicated to the media and whether they provide contact information for journalists, whether they post press announcements or other materials useful for the representatives of the media, as well as whether they present scientific workers as experts in their areas of works.

The role of the German language in scientific communication in Germany has long been the subject of much discussion. In the media, including online, you can find a numerous articles on the subject. Titles in the press show that the German public is very concerned about this state of affairs. The headlines already leave no illusions that the German language is displaced in the scientific research by the English language. Are we dealing with the birth of new lingua franca? Based on selected titles I tried to show how far they correspond with the content of the article. Subjected analyses allowed to discover language strategies used in the titles to illustrate the problem.

Opis:
This paper aims to profile Brazilian Information Science journals and compare their quality and impact indicators, be these traditional or altmetrics indicators. It is an exploratory and descriptive research, with quantitative analysis of 23 journals, analysed in accordance with their Qualis (2013-6) assessment, their h and g indices from Google Scholar Metrics and their altmetrics data from Facebook for the period 2011 to 2016. The Qualis assessment was obtained from the Sucupira Platform, the indices from Harzing’s Publish or Perish, and the altmetrics through the Facebook Application Programming Interface (API). The results show that the journals were created between 1972 and 2011, that they are edited by universities and that the most adopted frequency of publication is biannual (52%), followed by quarterly (39%). Regarding the national quality indicator Qualis, 73% of the journals fall within the higher stratum of B1 to A1. Regarding impact, 30.4% of the journals have an h-index greater than 10, and only 13% have a g-index greater than 20. Regarding their altmetrics, 34.7% have a Facebook altmetric value greater than 1,000 interactions. It can be concluded that the position of the journals vary if applied to the Qualis assessment system, the h and g indices and Facebook altmetrics. The journal that displays the greatest coincidence between the national index, and those of Google Scholar Metrics and the Facebook altmetrics was Encontros Bibli which is classed as Qualis A2, h-index 11 and g-index 17, and 2,261 interactions on Facebook.

Opis:
The purpose of this study (based on the analysis and discussion of cases of erroneous use of words monografia / monograph, autentykacja/authentication, kolaboracja/collaboration, pamflet/pamphlet, stary druk/alter Druck, Frühdruck/old print, old book) was to outline the problem of term equivalence resulting from unintentional linguistic interference (loanwords, tautonymy, anisomorphy, calques) in the communication of various members of the scientific community (authors, translators, editors and proofreaders). Multilingual dictionaries, noting only the equivalents without indicating their meaning or examples of their use, not only do not protect against committing such errors, but can also be their source. The study resulted in a concept of a multilingual encyclopaedic dictionary, which, by preventing the incorrect equivalence of terms in the field of document types, will help in formulating correct oral and written presentations, descriptions of documents used in information resources, their correct translation and building search tools on their basis – in particular, bibliographic databases and digital libraries, where they are used as a search or selection criteria for materials.

Is English a "lingua franca" of scientific discourse of modern times?
Autorzy:
Mańczak-Wohlfeld, Elżbieta
Wydawca:
Filozofski fakultet
Opis:
As the title of this paper indicates, its aim is to discuss English language usage in scientific publications with special reference to the current situation in such countries as Serbia, France, or Italy; however, paying particular attention to my native country that is Poland, i.e. a country which, according to Kachru’s (1992) distinction, is placed within the Expanding circle. On the basis of studies conducted by different scholars (e.g. hamel 2007, van Weijen 2012, Montgomery 2013) we know that the usage of English in international journals and scientific communication (mainly at conferences) is increasing. It has also been noted that the use of English is more common among scientists, natural scientists and engineers than among scholars of the humanities and social scientists. Both tendencies are observed in Poland. This is the reason why the matter is discussed within the academic world, e.g. in pAUza Akademicka, an electronic weekly of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences. There are many arguments, both for and against, using English as a lingua franca of research and at the end of the paper we make certain recommendations for Polish academics.

Projekt serwisu internetowego dotyczącego konferencji naukowych w Polsce
Website project for scientific conferences in Poland
Autorzy:
Szczepańczyk, Lucyna
Opis:
Zawiera on opis zasobów, funkcjonowania i korzyści wynikających z projektu. Przeprowadzone badanie wykazało znaczne braki w funkcjonowaniu i zawartości analizowanych serwisów.
The thesis concerns an issue of websites that contains bases with scientific conferences in Poland. The topic was chosen to solve a professional problem related to this issue - lack of this type of service standard website. The main goal of this thesis is to design optimum internet portal for scientific conferences in Poland. It contains description of its resources, functionality and benefits of the project. The indirect goal is to determinate the significant features which this kind of website should have. The features were defined based on literature. The websites used as examples were chosen as follows: three polish websites: BazaKonferencji.pl, UniKonferencje.pl, Konferencje24h.pl and two international: AllConferenceAlert.com and WorldConferenceAlerts.com. Additionally there were presented two other portals, that do not have information about upcoming conferences, but they are examples of good practices because of the availability of various types of educational materials: VideoLectures.net and Conferensum.com. The used method is benchmarking. The study revealed significant deficiencies in the functioning and content of all services. The best results were achieved by Polish websites, but they are not satisfying. According to conclusions above, the project of internet portal meeting all users requirements was developed.

The Englishization of Polish higher education
Autorzy:
Mańczak-Wohlfeld, Elżbieta

Wydawca:
Amsterdam University Press
Opis:
In Poland, Englishization is subsumed under the concept of internationalization, which is considered a nationwide tendency of the development of the higher education sector. It is highly recommended to use English as a lingua franca of research and scientific communication, and it is common to implement programmes using English as a medium of instruction (EMI). Therefore, one of the key aspects discussed in this paper concerns the equalization of the status of Polish and English as languages of instruction. Other ‘tangible’ exponents of this English-Polish ‘alliance’ are to be seen in the area of job competition procedures, which have to be stated in both Polish and English. Emphasis is also placed on the development of English versions of university websites.
