Opis:: This article deals with the issue of the role of a translator in translating specialized texts. It is theoretically assumed that a translator of that kind of texts is merely a transferor of information and should not intervene with the meaning of the given text. Numerous studies show, however, that a translator of specialized texts – subject to the nature of the given text – must employ a whole range of translation techniques which aim at explicating certain concealed or unknown messages being conveyed to the receiving party. In this article we strive to prove that these explanatory techniques can take on a totally different dimension when applied to scientific or pragmatic texts. Therefore it can be inferred that translating scientific texts provides for different interventions on the part of the translator than in the case of translating utilitarian texts. Nevertheless, each such intervention is to some extent creative from the point of view of the role of the translator in the process of the transfer.

W drugiej części koncentrujemy się na specyfice testów naukowych oraz popularnonaukowych. W trzecim rozdziale przedstawiamy metaforę i jej obecność w tekstach popularnonaukowych. Przedostatni rozdział zawiera analizę zebranego korpusu z punktu widzenia retorycznego i kognitywistycznego. Całość zakończona jest wnioskami z obserwacji.
Thesis contains five chapters : the first one presents metaphor in rhetoric, stylistic and cognitive approach. In the second part we concentrate on the characteristics of scientific and popular science texts. In third chapter the metaphor’s occurrence in popular science texts is presented. Last but one part contains analysis of the articles we’ve gathered in rhetoric and cognitive approach. Thesis is finished by the conclusion.

Opis:: Les verbes supports et autres actualisateurs du prédicat nominal <comparaison> constituent l’objet de cette étude. Nous soumettons aux analyses les constructions retenus dans les textes scientifiques appartenant à la discipline de Science humaine. Le choix de travailler sur le corpus bien défini n’est pas arbitraire, car non seulement le contexte linguistique détermine le sens d’un prédicat mais aussi le contexte et le genre de discours peuvent délimiter l’emploi du prédicat. Les analyses proposées se réfèrent aux travaux sur l’actualisation du prédicat nominal et s’inscrivent dans la lignée des recherches actuelles sur les structures lexico-syntaxiques spécifiques au genre.
Support verbs (verbes supports) and other realizers of the predicative noun comparison are the subject of this study. We submit to analysis the constructions prevalent in academic texts. The proposed analyses refer to the research on the realization of the predicate noun and are in line with the current research on the lexical-syntactic structures specific to the genre.

Opis:: The article reviews the correlation between the discourse theory and the theory of functional stylistics. Based on the similarity of the most important methodological principles of these linguistic directions, the author suggests these directions should be integrated in the discourse and stylistic approach. This approach is applied to scientific texts. The discourse component of this approach allows to identify extral inguistical factors of scientific communication; the stylistic component allows to discover the linguistic devices that represent the standard content of a scientific paper. The author develops the concept of epistemical situation and considers the latter to be discourse metamodel of a scientific texts, which determines its stylistic peculiarity. The structure of epistemical situation is described with regard to the four interconnected aspects of cognitive activity: ontological, methodological, reflective, communicative-pragmatical. The author reveals the content of each aspects and analyses their influence on the sense structure of a scientific text. The author considers the subtext to be a structural element of the text and describes the primary subtexts: the subtext of a new and old knowledge, the subtext of evaluation, the subtext of recipient and the author, etc.

Opis:: The Role of Concessive Connectors in the Scientific Texts Discourse The subject of the considerations of the article is the specificity of concessive relations expressed by the use of connectors in the texts of scientific discourse. The function of connectors is performed by linguistic structures, specifically by conjunctions, adverbs or particles whose aim is connecting both on the grammatical and semantic level of the text. My focus is on the semantic level whose concessive relation is not only the reflection of a specific acceptance or admission despite the existence of adversative factors. It is frequently a rhetorical device serving to express distance with which the author of the text refers to a certain stance or state of affairs.
Den Schwerpunkt von Erörterungen dieses Beitrags bilden sprachliche Strukturen, mit denen im Bereich wissenschaftlichen Schreibens die Konzessivverhältnisse zum Ausdruck gebracht werden. In der Funktion von Konnektoren, die innerhalb geschriebener Sprache als gewisse sprachliche Schemata im Kommunikationsverfahren dienen und sowohl auf der grammatischen und semantischen Ebene den Text kohärent machen, tauchen sowohl Konjunktionen, Adverbien, als auch Partikel auf. Mein Augenmerk richtet sich besonders auf die semantische Ebene, in der diese Strukturen bei der Realisierung bestimmter Intentionen der Sprecher, z. B. zum Ausdruck von Opposition oder Argumentation dienen. Weiterhin wird das Konzessivverhältnis zwecks Organisation der sozialen Interaktion auf der Textebene genutzt, bzw. als eine Strategie der Selbstsicherung des Autors im Diskurs durch Distanzhalten zu sehen ist.

Opis:: The article discusses linguistic methods for determining the images of authors of scientific texts. The theoretical basis of the study is a typology of points of view reflected in the text. The research method consists in detecting implicatures in the content of the text and determining their relationship to the author’s intentions. The image of the author is derived on the basis of the assessments, language means and the stated facts contained in the text. On the basis of implicatures, the content of which does not contradict the author’s intentions, his intentional image is derived. In the presence of implicatures, which most likely do not correspond to the author’s intentions, the perceptual image of the author is determined.

Opis:: The main purpose of this MA thesis is to present a comparative analysis of elements of literary and scientific language that appear in popular science texts. The analysis have been conducted on the basis of personal translation of text written by a popular German ethologist, Vitus B. Dröscher. Popular science texts combine features of literary and technical texts, in order to familiarise amateurs with important information.The thesis consists of five chapter. Four present theoretical framework, in fifth the translation has been analysed.In the first chapter, the basis of the theory of translation have been depicted. The analysis of particular definitions of translation is to emphasize the importance of translation studies. The structure of the process of translation has been also elaborated on in this chapter, as well as the problem of equivalence.Following three chapters deal with features of scientific, literary and popular science texts. Scientific language has been defined and classified. Nonverbal elements, such as illustrations, tables, figures and diagrams, play the main role both in the case of scientific and popular science texts. Those elements can be split into two categories. The scientific language can be divided vertically or horizontally. In the analysis of the literary work, characteristics of literary devices has been emphasized.Practical part of the thesis contains the analysis of the text, conducted in accordance with Christiane Nord’s model, and the analysis of scientific and literary elements, that appeared in the translated text. The concept of “Duft” and its synonyms have been examined in the last subsection.
Głównym celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest analiza porównawcza elementów języka literackiego i naukowego występujących w tekstach popularnonaukowych. Analiza została przeprowadzona na podstawie własnego tłumaczenia tekstu znanego niemieckiego etologa Vitusa B. Dröschera. Teksty popularnonaukowe łączą cechy literackich i fachowych tekstów, po to aby istotne informacje przybliżyć amatorom.Praca składa się z pięciu rozdziałów, z których cztery prezentują podstawy teoretyczne a w piątym została przeprowadzona analiza tłumaczenia.W pierwszym rozdziale zostały opisane podstawy teorii tłumaczenia. Analiza wybranych definicji tłumaczenia powinna zwrócić uwagę na ważność dziedziny jaką jest translatoryka. Następnie została omówiona struktura procesu tłumaczenia. Bardzo istotny jest również problem ekwiwalencji, który również został omówiony w tym rozdziale. Kolejne trzy rozdziały zajmują się cechami naukowych, literackich i popularnonaukowych tekstów. Język naukowy został zdefiniowany i sklasyfikowany. Zarówno w przypadku tekstów naukowych jak i popularnonaukowych dużą rolę odgrywają elementy niewerbalne (grafiki, tabele, ilustracje, wykresy), które można podzielić na dwie główne kategorie. Język naukowy może podlegać podziałowi wertykalnemu i horyzontalnemu. Przy analizie tekstów literackich uwagę skupiłam na charakterystyce środków stylistycznych.Część praktyczna pracy zawiera analizę tekstu przeprowadzoną zgodnie z modelem Christiane Nord oraz analizę elementów naukowych i literackich, które występują w przetłumaczonym tekście. W ostatnim podrozdziale zostało zanalizowane pojęcie „zapach” oraz jego synonimy.
Das Ziel der vorliegenden Magisterarbeit ist die Analyse der literarischen und fachsprachlichen Elemente in populärwissenschaftlichen Texten. Um diese Analyse durchzuführen, habe ich einen Text von dem berühmten deutschen Sachbuchautor Vitus B. Dröscher aus dem Deutschen ins Polnische übersetzt. Die populärwissenschaftlichen Texte verbinden die Merkmale von literarischen und fachsprachlichen Texten, um die wesentlichen Informationen für interessierte Laien näherzubringen.Die Arbeit ist in fünf Kapitel eingeteilt, wobei in vier Kapiteln die theoretischen Grundlagen präsentiert werden und im fünften Kapitel die Übersetzungsanalyse durchgeführt wird.Im ersten Kapitel werden die Grundlagen der Übersetzungswissenschaft beschrieben. Die Analyse von ausgewählten Begriffsdefinitionen sollen Acht auf die Relevanz der Übersetzungsdisziplin geben. Dann wird die Struktur des translatorischen Handelns näher betrachtet, um diesen Prozess besser zu verstehen. Sehr wichtig für Übersetzungstätigkeit ist das Problem der Äquivalenz, das auch in diesem Kapitel näher erörtert wird.In nächsten drei Kapiteln werden die Merkmale von fachsprachlichen, literarischen und populärwissenschaftlichen Texten beschrieben. Die Fachsprache wird definiert und klassifiziert. Sowohl bei Fachtexten als auch bei populärwissenschaftlichen Texten spielen die nonverbalen Elemente eine große Rolle. Sie werden in zwei Hauptkategorien unterteilt. Bei der Analyse der literarischen Texte wird die Aufmerksamkeit auf die Charakteristik von stilistischen Mitteln gerichtet.Der praktische Teil der Arbeit enthält die Textanalyse, die nach dem Modell von Christiane Nord durchgeführt wird und auch die Analyse der fachsprachlichen und literarischen Elemente, die in dem übersetzten Text hervortreten. Im letzten Unterkapitel wird der Begriff Duft und seine Synonyme analysiert.
