Opis:: The aim of the following paper is to present the threats that have a direct impact on social development. The article adopts the distinction of threats into primary and secondary ones. The former entails natural phenomena such as the movement of tectonic plates, various forms of precipitation, or ambient temperature, both high and low. They result in floods, fires, earthquakes and massive water movements, e.g. tsunami, responsible for the damage of industrial and public infrastructure as well as private properties. Secondary threats are results of human activity. Industrial growth and technological advance lead to unsustainable exploitation of natural resources and change the demand for workforce in terms of both quality and quantity. Such threats to safety can be identified, resolved and prevented as opposed to those targeted directly at a given country, e.g. terrorism or cyber attacks. Often unexpected, they become increasingly common. It is essential for public administrations to detect and recognise both kinds of threats in order to react in time and minimise their negative effects.

Opis:: The article discusses the findings of the research carried out basing on the investigation procedure originating from the function-action approach to psychological defense developed by A. Senejko, where every reaction to threat can be considered as a defensive reaction. A nation-wide final secondary school examination was employed as the threat in the study and the reactions to such a threat were diagnosed twice: in January 2005 and two weeks before the exam in April 2005. The participants were 177 students of secondary schools (aged 18-19; 121 females and 52 males) of the Lower Silesian and Upper Silesian regions of Poland. In the she study two questionnaires were employed. Part one of The Psycho-Social and Psychic Defenses Questionnaire (PSPDQ) and the Questionnaire of Personal Judgements (QPJ) developed by Kinga Lachowicz-Tabaczek and Alicja Senejko for identifying the following psychological dispositions: self-esteem, social anxiety, depressiveness, obligation will, emotional reactivity, sensitivity, activity and endurance. The basic research questions concerned the effect which the diagnosed factors had on the two dimensions of the subjects' attitude to their final exam as a threat as well as how they influenced their reactions to it, that is their psychological defenses. The multiple regression analyzes showed that the two dimensions of the participants' approach to their exam as a threat were the most substantially influenced by endurance, self-esteem, gender and reactivity. However, the way the examinees reacted their exam was the most substantially influenced by their obligation will, depressiveness and endurance.

Opis:: W omawianym artykule przedstawiono rodzaje i źródła zagrożeń bezpieczeństwa, które należą od dawna(istnienia człowieka) do wartości najbardziej cenionych i chronionych przez jednostki jak i narody. Bezpieczeństwo obejmuje aspekty polityczne, militarne, czynniki ekonomiczne i technologiczne, ekologiczne, społeczne oraz humanitarne. Oprócz przedstawionych czynników od zarania dziejów świata odgrywają czynniki naturalne, które są niezależne ale należy się z nimi bardzo liczyć. Wraz z rozwojem techniki wkroczyliśmy w zagrożenia techniczne, które są z jednej strony niezbędne w życiu codziennym człowieka a z drugiej strony bardzo zagrażaj ą człowiekowi. Przedstawione powyższe rodzaje zagrożeń zostały w sposób syntetyczny scharakteryzowane i opisane. Należy podkreślić, że przedstawione zagrożenia nie wyczerpują wszystkich, bo wraz z rozwojem techniki powstają coraz nowsze. Wskazane zagrożenia w różnym stopniu dotyczą bezpieczeństwa narodowego Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej.
In this article different sorts and sources of threats to security were discussed. The threats which belong to the values have long been held dear and protected by both an individual and nations since the dawn of humankind. Security includes political and military aspects as well as economic, technological, ecological, social and humanitarian factors. There are also natural aspects, apart from the factors presented above, which play their part from the beginning of the human history to be taken into account .Together with the advancement of technology people entered the era of technological threat. The threat that on the one hand is indispensable in everyday life but on the other threatens increasingly a man. The presented above sorts of threats have been characterized and described in a synthetic way It should be underlined that the threats presented do not exhaust all of them as newer and newer threats appear together with the technological development. The pointed out threats, are related to the national security of the Republic of Poland in a different degree.
