Opis:
Today, western liberal democratic societies are secular, or in other words, religion is set apart from the state. However, the beginning of the 21st century has seen a re-politicizing of the religion. This paper argues that religion plays an important role in current global politics and events. Moreover, it has been used as tool to recruit masses for a wrong cause. Hence, Interreligious and interfaith dialog can play a role of catalysts and a future trend in cultural diplomacy. The paper provides definitions of a secular and post secular society. Then, it discusses the general concept of dialogue and explores it from an interreligious and interfaith point of view as a way to mitigate the role religion has undertaken. Finally, it provides examples of what European Union has been doing in that respect.

Introduction. Environmental conditions have been changing over the years and the body’s capacity to adapt affects human development, its growth and typogenesis. Aim. To confirm the secular trend in the population of children and adolescents aged 4 to 18 from Rzeszów in the last 35 years in terms of growing and differentiation body proportions. Materials and methods. In 2013/2014, a total of 1,563 children from Rzeszów were examined. The length of the trunk, the upper limb, the lower limb, the width of the shoulders and the width of the hips were measured and the following indices were calculated: trunk length, upper limb length, lower limb length, inter-limb, hip-shoulder and shoulder width. The data was subjected to statistical analysis and compared to the data collected in 1978/79, 1993/1994 and 2003/2004. Results. During the 35-year period, the following symptoms were observed: elongation of upper and lower limbs in both sexes, increase in shoulder width in boys from 15-18 years of age, and in girls generally in the entire examined age, tendency to decrease in hip width in both sexes in most age classes. Conclusions. The secular trend in the population of children and adolescents aged 4 to 18 from Rzeszów in the last 35 years regarding growth process and differentiating body proportions was confirmed.

Opis:
The concept of the secular state has been discussed in the academic literaturę for decades. However the term “secularism” is typically employed to denote the French or American conceptualisation of the relationship between state and religious associations, it may also have different connotations. In this context, the main aim of the article is to prove that terms such as “secularism” or “laicisation” do not have a universal meaning, but rather their interpretation depends on the historical and cultural conditions. To this end, the author illustrates the process of creation the concept of secular state in the Republic of Turkey during the presidency of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. The article posits that the Kemalist concept of the secular state was not only the original one, but it was also the basis of the modern concept of secularism in Turkey.

In this article, the author tackles the post-secular turnaround in the context of practising science, and as such how this manner of thinking has affected how science, its tasks and its practical activity is perceived by those practising it. Initially two fundamental concepts are discussed, namely secularisation and post-secularism – their pedigree and ways in which they are expressed. The article deals later with issues related to the presence of religious references in the natural sciences, as well as the possibilities of utilising the natural sciences in religion and theology. Consequently, the area of issues embraced by the new scientific sub-discipline known as the theology of science is discussed. The article then addresses the discourse regarding the presence of theology and religion in sociology, and refers to the conceptions of such sociologists as P. Rieff, K. Flanagan, Z. Krasnodębski, E. Hałas and K.T. Konecki. Finally, it indicates possible further consequences of post-secular thinking in the field of sociology, and relates the current post-secular turn to Nikolai Berdyaev’s concept of the New Middle Ages.

Opis:
The subject of the article is the educational conference which was held on 28 October 1958. It is believed that this meeting, in particular W. Gomulka’s speech, designated the main directions of future educational policy. Gomulka’s speech contained the following conclusions: the extension of compulsory education, the development of vocational education, professionalization of education and ideologisation of teacher training. A very important part of Gomulka’s speech was the issue of teaching religion. Although Gomulka promised to comply with the agreement concluded with the Church on teaching religion, he on the other hand criticized the conduct of the clergy on emblems and religious practices. The participants of the conference were more radical than Gomulka and advocated the total elimination of religious education in school. Strangely enough, all of the main conclusions of the meeting were subsequently turned into legislation. The crowning achievement of the speakers of 1958 became the law on the development of the system of education in 1961, which introduced secular schools and socialist educational ideals.
