Opis:
Models for geotechnical centrifuge testing are usually made from re-formed soil, allowing for comparisons with naturally occurring soil deposits. However, there is a fundamental omission in this process because natural soil is deposited in layers creating a unique structure. Nonlinear dynamics of clay material deposit is an essential part in changing the attributes of ground movements when subjected to solid seismic loading, particularly when diverse intensification conduct of speeding up and relocation are considered. The paper portrays a review of axis shaking table tests and numerical recreations to explore the offshore clay deposits subjected to seismic loadings. These perceptions are accurately reenacted by DEEPSOIL with appropriate soil models and parameters reviewed from noteworthy centrifuge modeling researches. At that point precise 1-D site reaction investigations are performed on both time and recurrence spaces. The outcomes uncover that for profound delicate clay is subjected to expansive quakes, noteworthy increasing speed lessening may happen close to the highest point of store because of soil nonlinearity and even neighborhood shear disappointment; nonetheless, huge enhancement of removal at low frequencies are normal in any case the forces of base movements, which proposes that for dislodging touchy seaward establishments and structures, such intensified low-recurrence relocation reaction will assume an essential part in seismic outline. This research shows centrifuge as a tool for creating a layered sample important for modelling true soil behaviour (such as permeability) which is not identical in all directions. Currently, there are limited methods for creating layered soil samples.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to present a method of assessing the load-bearing capacity of prefabricated large-panel buildings built after the 1950s. Since the main problem in the existing large-panel system buildings is the actual condition of the joints between the panels, it was decided to investigate their impact on the behavior of the entire structure. Therefore, analyses were carried out in which the influence of the adopted connection models on the static and dynamic behavior of the building was examined. Several calculation models of the building were analyzed using three different types of connections between wall and ceiling panels: rigid, elastic and hinged, each representing a distinct state of the actual connection. The criterion used for the comparisons were the values of extreme internal forces and static displacements as well as the dynamic responses of the structure. The parameters that have the greatest influence on the static and dynamic analyses’ results are described and commented on in the conclusion. The analyses’ results are supported by data obtained from source materials: inspection reports, case studies and technical documents. The research helps to understand better the static and dynamic behavior of a building erected using a system of prefabricated large-size panels and to determine the main parameters of the structure influencing this behavior. However, as a result of the research, it was found that changes in the state of panel connection in large-panel system buildings do not have such a significant impact on the overall static and dynamic responses of the structure as initially expected.

Opis:
This study examines the effects of common viscose damper on the behavior of adjacent reinforced concrete structures. For this purpose, three reinforced concrete buildings with 3, 5 and 7 floors and a regular plan were selected and were compared in two cases with and without viscous dampers at the seams. They are designed based on discussions of Buildings Regulations 2800 and the 6 and 9 issues of Iranian National Building Regulations. Those buildings that were under the analysis of accelerograms of Bam, Mangil and El Centro, are then analyzed with nonlinear modal time history. The accelerograms before applied to the structures are scaled based on the 2800 Regulations. Those buildings were modeled by SAP2000 finite element modeling software. Linear behavior of structural components of said structure and the non-linear behavior of viscous dampers were modeled. Finally, the seismic response of the buildings includes the base shear force, up to a maximum lateral acceleration of seismic classes. Classes for both with and without the viscous damper have been extracted and compared. The results showed the reduction in relative lateral displacement, maximum acceleration and base cut applied to a structure in the presence of viscous dampers between two structures. This decline is not even in the direction that the viscous damper is viewed as significant.

Opis:
Seismic analysis of a fractured dam is a generally complex problem. This paper presents an earthquake behavior investigation of a fractured concrete gravity dam considering dam-reservoir-foundation rock interaction. The Koyna dam profile, located in India, is adopted in this study. The nonlinear finite element analyses are conducted taking into account empty and full reservoir cases, to exhibit the hydrodynamic effect of reservoir water on the dam earthquake response. The hydrodynamic pressure is modeled by fluid finite elements based on a Lagrangian approach. Transient analyses take into account material and connection nonlinearity. Drucker-Prager model is employed in nonlinear analyses for the dam concrete and foundation rock. The structural crack between the top and bottom blocks of the dam is presented by surface-to-surface contact elements based on Coulomb’s friction law in order to simulate the behavior of contact joints and deformation of blocks. The distribution of horizontal displacements and principal stresses along the dam height is investigated for empty and full reservoir cases. The failure processes of two potential failure modes of cracked dam, i.e, the separation and sliding of top block during an earthquake, are examined.

Opis:
The paper presents the determination of the impact of earthquakes of varying intensity on the structure of geodesic domes. The structures of the analyzed domes were designed on the basis of the regular octahedron according to two different methods of creating their topology. The use of four seismic records of different intensity and duration of the record made it possible to subject 8 models to numerical analysis. The designed spatial structures are domes with a steel cross-section, thanks to which they are undoubtedly characterized by their lightness and the possibility of covering very large areas, without the need to use internal supports. Designing steel domes is currently a challenge for constructors, as well as architect, who take into account their aesthetic considerations. The paper presents the seismic response of geodesic domes in applied different directions (two horizontal “X” and “Y” and one vertical “Z”), using the Time History method. The values of forced vibrations and recording intensity were shown, and on this basis, an attempt was made to determine which seismic record may be more unfavorable for the designed geodesic domes created according to two different methods of shaping the topology of their structures. For this purpose, the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) method was used. The maximum accelerations and displacements of the structures were also analyzed. The conducted analysis shows the influence of seismic excitations on geodetic dome structures, depending on the applied method (method 1 and 2) of shaping their topology. This paper will undoubtedly be useful in designing a geodesic dome structure in a seismic area. In addition, this analysis can be helpful in assessing the effects of an incidental earthquake.

Opis:
The present study shows the results of a 2D local seismic response (LSR) analysis, simulated for a geomechanical model consisting of a layered carbonate rock mass with hypogean karst caves and a structural–lithostratigraphic complex setting, in an area within the Municipality of Turi (Apulia, Italy). In this case study a Distinct Element Code (DEM) code (UDEC) was used for the LSR simulations conducted on a model both in the absence and in the presence of two overlapping karst caves. The preliminary stress–strain model analysis show some tensile yielding points clustered on the roof of the upper karst cave, already in static conditions, and the phenomenon becomes even more noticeable in dynamic conditions. This is perfectly in agreement with the real occurrence of a sinkhole that brought to the light the underlying karst cave, in the case study area, in the recent past. The amplification/deamplification factor (FA) was calculated as the ratio of the top value to the bottom value in the model, both of the max X-acceleration and of the spectral Fourier amplitude in three different ranges of frequencies, in order to estimate the effects of LSR on the X-component of the seismic input. According to the previous studies, the results obtained show a generalised deamplification of the seismic ground motion at the top of the model, both without and with underground karst caves, caused by the presence of the upper karst cave and by the seismic energy absorption because of layers’ discontinuity.

Opis:
A high-amplitude anomaly in seismic signal, i.e. a bright-spot, which is the main direct hydrocarbon indicator, may also occur due to interference between the reflected signals from the top and base of a thin bed (the tuning effect). In such settings the main problem is to distinguish amplitude anomalies associated with lithological changes or changes in gas saturation from anomalies originating from the tuning effect. We provide a method of interpreting the composite seismic signal produced by the interference between reflections. Such reflections occur along the top of the Cenomanian sandstone in the area of the Grobla–Rajsko–Rylowa 3-D seismic dataset (southern Poland). The non-standard method presented here is based on interpretation of seismic data which was rotated by 270°. The results of seismic modelling were used to develop criteria for interpretation of such data. These criteria are based on the difference between information carried by the peak-to-trough amplitude and that by the total amplitude of rotated seismic data. The difference was used to define the transfer function and to remove the high-amplitude anomalies caused by the constructive interference between the reflected signals from the top and bottom of the thinning stratum. The final outcome of the study was a map showing the seismic amplitude response at the top Cenomanian reflector unaffected by the tuning effect. The map shows the extent of the area where high-amplitude anomalies do not correspond with changes in thickness and petrophysical parameters within the top part of the Cenomanian. These anomalies are caused by a lateral increase in thickness of the Turonian and/or an increase in the velocity within the bottom part of the Senonian (Coniacian) strata. The map can be used to determine precisely the boundaries of the Rajsko and Rylowa gas reservoirs as well as to locate the potential extension of the reservoir zone to the east of the Rylowa 6 borehole.

Opis:
The article presents numerical simulations for the modelling of seismic impact on the structure of unique cantilever cablestayed structure with the application of two methods. The Response Spectrum method, in which a spectrum of the structure’s responses to an earthquake’s impact is generated, and the Accelerogram method, in which we generate dynamic load in the form of a diagram of the connection between acceleration and time for the actual readings during a real earthquake. Both methods have been presented for the El Centro earthquake spectrum. This unique application of a cantilever cablestayed structure in public buildings will allow to assess the safety of this kind of load-bearing system in areas of increased risk of seismic activity. Cantilever cablestayed structures have so far never been designed or analyzed on seismically active areas. Based on numerical simulation we determined the effect of stiffness of load-bearing lines on the increase of stresses and displacements at cable stays joint with the end of the cantilever part of a building.

Opis:
Based on wave mechanics theory, the dynamic response characteristics of cantilever flexible wall in two-dimensional site are analyzed. The partial derivative of the vibration equation of soil layer is obtained, and the general solution of the volume strain is obtained by the separation of variables method. The obtained solution is substituted back to the soil layer vibration equation to obtain the displacement vibration general solution. Combined with the soil-wall boundary condition and the orthogonality of the trigonometric function, the definite solution of the vibration equation is obtained. The correctness of the solution is verified by comparing the obtained solution with the existing simplified solution and the solution of rigid retaining wall, and the applicable conditions of each simplified solution are pointed out. Through parameter analysis, it is shown that when the excitation frequency is low, the earth pressure on the wall is greatly affected by the soil near the wall. When the excitation frequency is high, the influence of the far-field soil on the earth pressure of the wall gradually increases. The relative stiffness of the wall, the excitation frequency and the soil layer damping factor have a significant effect on the dynamic response of the flexible retaining wall.
