Procesy adhezyjne lub mechanizmy tribologiczne są interesujące z wielu powodów. Biologiczne mechanizmy kontaktowe pomagają w zrozumieniu zasad funkcjonowania wielu technicznych adhezyjnych urządzeń. Zbadanie biologicznych stykowych powierzchni stało się źródłem rozwoju idei twórczych w zakresie przemysłowych zastosowań powierzchni samo-oczyszczających się. Na przykład powierzchnie samooczyszczające są bardzo pożądane w zbiornikach do magazynowania olejów, smarów, farb. Ponadto powierzchnie lemieszy pługa powinny też posiadać własność samooczyszczania się od pozostałości gleby po orce. Zdolność samooczyszczania powierzchni jest procesem tribologicznym. Powierzchnie hydrofobowe charakteryzują się specyficzną rzeźbą w postaci mikroi nanorowków. W pracy wyjaśniono mechanizm zanieczyszczenia powierzchni tworzony adhezyjnym wiązania nanoobiektów z rozpatrywanymi powierzchniami na skutek sił Van der Waalsa.
Adhesive or sticking tribological mechanisms are interesting in several respects. Biological sticking mechanisms may aid in understandding the principles of the functioning of other technical frictional and adhesive mechanisms. Biological sticking surfaces provide a rich source of ideas for the development of industrial applications, such as self cleaning surfaces. For example, the self-cleaning surfaces are very desirable for the internal surfaces of tanks for lubricants in contact with the oil. The shared surfaces of the plough ought to have self-cleaning properties too. Self cleaning-abilities of the surface are known as the hydrophobic properties. Hydrophobic surfaces have specific sculptured shapes with the nano-ridges and nano-grooves. Particle contaminating surface structures consists, in most cases, of material that is more readily wetted than hydrophobic wax components. Contaminants usually rest on the tips of the surface structures, so that the real contact area between the particles and sculptured surface is minimised. Thus, these particles can be easily removed by water droplets rolling over the surface. In this case, the adhesion between particles and water droplets is greater than between particles and the sculptured surface due to the reduced contact between the particles and surface. Therefore, we have the selfcleaning process of the surface.

Opis:
TiO2 is one of the most widely used metal oxide semiconductors in the field of photocatalysis for the self-cleaning purpose to withdraw pollutants. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is recommended as a stabilizer and booster during preparation of water-soluble TiO2. Preparation of SnO2/TiO2 thin film deposition on the surface of ceramic tile was carried out by the sol-gel spin coating method by adding different amount of PEG (0g, 0.2g, 0.4g, 0.6g, 0.8g) during the preparation of the sol precursor. The effects of PEG content and the annealing temperature on the phase composition, crystallite size and the hydrophilic properties of SnO2/TiO2 films were studied. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra revealed different phases existed when the films were annealed at different annealing temperatures of 350°C, 550°C and 750°C with 0.4 g of PEG addition. The crystallite sizes of the films were measured using Scherrer equation. It shows crystallite size was dependent on crystal structure existed in the films. The films with mixed phases of brookite and rutile shows the smallest crystallite size. In order to measure the hydrophilicity properties of films, the water contact angles for each film with different content of PEG were measured. It can be observed that the water contact angle decreased with the increasing of the content of PEG. It shows the superhydrophilicity properties for the films with the 0.8 g of PEG annealed at 750°C. This demonstrates that the annealed temperature and the addition of PEG affect the phase composition and the hydrophilicity properties of the films.

Opis:
The conducted studies were focused on the development of the gypsum material exhibiting self-cleaning properties. To this end, the raw gypsum was mixed with unique TiO2-based photocatalysts, previously modified by nitrogen and/ or carbon doping. The photocatalytic activity of the obtained gypsum plasters was evaluated trough the degradation of model organic compound (Reactive Red 198) under UV-vis irradiation. The impact of the photocatalysts presence on the physicochemical properties of the obtained gypsum plasters was evaluated. Furthermore, the role of non-metals presence on the photocatalytic properties of the TiO2 was determined. It was confirmed that the addition of N,C co-modified titanium dioxide into gypsum bestows this material with self-cleaning properties. The highest dye removal rate was displayed by the gypsum plaster containing optimal amount (10 wt%) of co-modified TiO2/N,C photocatalyst, after 20 hours of UV-vis irradiation.

Self-cleaning polyester fabrics were prepared by a simple gas phase deposition procedure in which a layer of polydimethylsiloxane nanofilaments was grown onto textile fibers. Superhydrophobic and self-cleaning properties, tensile breaking strength, mechanical stability and permeability of polyester fabrics were investigated. The results showed that the fabrics deposited had superhydrophobicity, and the contact angle and sliding angle of the fabric surface were 159° and 1.7°, respectively. The self-cleaning test showed that dust particles adhere to rolling water and shed from the surface of polyester fabric, leaving an extremely clean surface. In addition, the polyester fabric deposited still has excellent breaking strength and permeability. This approach is simple, inexpensive and has little effect on the mechanical properties of the fabric.
Samooczyszczające tkaniny poliestrowe przygotowano metodą chemicznego osadzania z fazy gazowej, w którym warstwa nanofilamentów polidimetylosiloksanu narastała na włóknach tekstylnych powodując superhydrofobowość i nadając właściwości samoczyszczące. Po obróbce badano wytrzymałość na zerwanie, trwałość mechaniczną i przepuszczalność powietrza. Wyniki wykazały, że zmodyfikowane tkaniny miały właściwości superhydrofobowe, a kąty zwilżania i poślizgu po powierzchni tkaniny wynosiły odpowiednio 159° i 1,7°. Testy zdolności samooczyszczających wykazały, że cząsteczki pyłu przylegają do cząstek wody i wraz z nią spływają po powierzchni tkaniny poliestrowej. Zastosowana metoda jest prosta, niedroga i nie wpływa negatywnie na obrabianą tkaninę.

Photochemical reduction of chromium(VI) by phenol and its halogen derivatives

Photoreduction of chromium(VI) has been investigated in solutions containing phenol or monohalogenophenol (4-bromophenol, 4-chlorophenol and 3-chlorophenol) under conditions mimicking the environmental ones. The effects of radiation wavelength, pH and molecular oxygen are analysed. The results show that chromate(VI) in excited state is reduced by phenol in its ground state via photoinduced electron transfer (PET). Moreover, solvated electrons generated by the phenol photoreaction reduce the $CrO_{4}^{2-}$ anions in their ground state. Phenol oxidation in both processes is assumed to proceed via generation of the $C_{6}H_{5}O\cdot$ radical dot radicals, which participate in further redox processes. Acidic and anoxic conditions favour the Cr(VI) photoreduction, whereas alkaline oxygenated solutions are preferable for phenol photooxidation followed by Cr(VI) thermal reduction by means of $e_{solv}^{-}$. Bromophenol appears more readily photodegradated, whereas chlorophenols are more resistant to it than unsubstituted phenol. The system consisting of chromate(VI) and phenol demonstrates the synergetic photodegradation as the phenolic substance enables photoreduction of environmental Cr(VI) and vice versa the Cr(VI) pollutant enhances photooxidation of phenol and its derivatives.

It was established that in the territory of the Stryi river basin, the natural landscapes are maximally preserved in comparison with other regions of Western Ukraine, but under modern conditions an increase of negative anthropogenic impact on the quality of natural waters is observed. The hydrodynamic barriers or hydrodynamically active areas (HAA) of mountain rivers, characterized by a significant oxygen saturation of the water flow, which activates the processes of biochemical and biological self-purification of surface waters, are important for the efficiency of self-purification processes. In order to verify the results of theoretical and field research, an existing experimental setup was designed and improved. It provided the conditions for modeling the flow of mountain rivers in accordance with the laws of similarity theory and the principles of hydrodynamic modeling. On the basis of the results of field observations in the foothills of rivers, as well as regulatory and design documentation, the limits of the main operating factors were determined, namely the Freud number, flow depth and flow rate, which are decisive in studying the impact of HAA on flow self-cleaning processes. By changing the length of the tray section, the gullies and the waterfall niche of the real hydrodynamically active section were simulated, on which field experiments on the Tyshivnytsia River were conducted. In the studies, measurements were performed at different flow regimes, which simulated different hydrological parameters. In order to analyze the impact of HAA on self-cleaning processes, the flow was visualized using photography. The change in the structure of a stream of natural waters at passage of HAA was established. The high oxygen saturation of the river waters of the Stryi river basin is caused by the influence of HAA, which contribute to the purification of polluted waters from biological pollutants and other man-made pollutants and form the high quality of water resources in the region. A method of modeling and visualization of mountain rivers in the laboratory was developed.

Small river basins are complex self-regulatory systems, as well as indicators of the state of the environment due to the level of anthropogenic pressure. Since any changes in the regime of small rivers are reflected in the entire hydrographic chain, the problem of estimating the anthropogenic load on small rivers of Ukraine is relevant for modern hydrochemistry and hydroecology. The main sources of water pollution are industrial and domestic effluents, which increase the inflow of pesticides, heavy metal ions, etc. Aquatic ecosystems of small rivers are subject to intense mechanical and biochemical effects, and about 80% of pollutants are washed into water bodies. Water bodies located on the territory or near large cities and urban areas are particularly exposed to man-made pollution. In the territory of the Dniester river basin, natural landscapes are maximally preserved in comparison with other regions of Western Ukraine, but in modern conditions we observe an increase in the negative anthropogenic impact on the quality of natural waters. Hydrodynamic barriers or hydrodynamically active areas (HAA) of mountain rivers, which are significantly saturated with oxygen in the water flow, which activates the processes of biochemical and biological self-cleaning of natural waters, are important to increase the efficiency of self-purification processes. Natural biological cleaning of pollutants in small rivers is highly effective due to the overgrowth of aquatic vegetation. The aim of the work was to establish the ability of the aquatic ecosystem of a small river to self-purify on the basis of hydrochemical indicators of water quality. The compliance with sanitary and hygienic requirements of hydrochemical indicators of Kolodnytsia river water of the right tributary of the Dniester was analyzed and possible regularities of their changes were established, as well as the main factors of anthropogenic impact on a small river and the possibility of laboratory modeling of such rivers. It was found that in the Kolodnytsia River the processes of self-cleaning are quite active, which are caused by the hydrological characteristics of the river and the presence of hydrodynamically active areas in the foothills of the basin. Therefore, at present there is no steady excess of pollutants relative to the MPC.

In this paper, a dye modified titanium dioxide/graphene composite (DTG20) was prepared using direct grey D, a dye with good water solubility, as a modifier. Then the DTG20 and its intermediates, including TiO2 and titanium dioxide/graphene (TG), were finished on cotton fabric through the padding, coating and compounding methods, respectively. Photocatalytic properties of the treated fabrics were investigated using the MB simulated pollutant. It was found that the photodegradation efficiency of MB shown by DTG20 finished fabric treated with the compounding method can reach 90.55 %, and after four recycling experiments, the removal rate of MB can still reach 77.07 %. After being exposed to sunlight for 6 hours, the photodegradation efficiency of MB stained on the surface of DTG20 treated fabric can achieve 91.44 %; therefore, it also exhibited an excellent self-cleaning effect.

Omówiono jej budowę i zasadę działania. Przedstawiono przebieg badań parametrów pracy dyszy oraz strumienia zraszającego wraz z omówieniem ich wyników.
Innovative solution of self-cleaning air-water nozzle, developed in KOMAG, which enables generation of fine-drops water streams is presented. Its design and principles of operation is discussed. Procedure for testing the operational parameters of the nozzle and the spraying water stream is given as well as the test results are discussed.
