Opis:: The paper presents a new approach based on genetic algorithms to the abstract planning problem, which is the first stage of the web service composition problem. An abstract plan is defined as an equivalence class of sequences of service types that satisfy a user query. Intuitively, two sequences are equivalent if they are composed of the same service types, but not necessarily occurring in the same order. The objective of our genetic algorithm (GA) is to return representatives of abstract plans without generating all the equivalent sequences. The paper presents experimental results compared with the results obtained from SMT-solver, which show that GA finds solutions for very large sets of service types in a reasonable time.

Opis:: Evolution of service-oriented systems is quite a new research area, which becomes more and more important as engineering challenges move from enabling service-orientation onto the maintenance and evolution of already developed service-oriented systems. However, the development of suitable evolution processes and methodologies is still an open research problem. The evolution process presented in this paper has been designed to address the evolution of service-oriented systems, which are technically built out of a set of service compositions. The presented process comprises phases and tasks compliant with ISO 20000. The underlying model of service-oriented system consisting of business processes and corresponding service composition models has also been presented. A traceability model and tools supporting change impact analysis have also been provisioned for. Preliminary industrial validation indicates that the evolution process should be easy to adapt by the industry.

Opis:: Several problems related to work reliability appear while building service-oriented systems. The first problem consists of the lack of static typing and the lack of interservice data type checking. The second one consists of the high connectivity of services. The article shows an example of the strong and static polymorphic type system and the type check algorithm. The service-contract and the contract discovery concepts for universal service linking and type verification are described. After theoretic results had been realized in a service form, they were applied in practice in the real system, which improved its reliability. Also, technical realization decreased services connectivity, which promoted system quality increase. However, the increased complexity of the resulting system leveled advanced reliability.

Opis:: We present a new approach to the concrete planning (CP) - a stage of theWeb service composition in the PlanICS framework. A new hybrid algorithm (HSA) based on a combination of Simulated Annealing (SA) with Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT) has been designed and implemented. The main idea of our hybrid solution is to use an SMT-based procedure in order to generate an initial individual and then improve it during subsequent iterations of SA. The experimental results show that HSA is superior to the other methods we have applied to the CP problem, including Genetic Algorithm, an SMT-based approach, and our previously developed hybrids.

Opis:: Quality of service (QoS) is an important attribute for selecting a service during the service composition process. Although availability and reliability have been considered as the predominant factors for estimating reputation, two aspects are missing in the literature. First, their use is limited to composite service level and does not count on the atomic level. Second, their combined effect is not evaluated. Better estimation of QoS can be done with both factors considered together, whereas when taken separately for computing reputation, availability will give the probability of a service being up/running and reliability will analyze the change in failure trend of that service. In this research, a mathematical modeling of predominant QoS factors, availability and reliability of atomic services using Markov Chain model and Weibull analysis respectively, are suggested. Also importance of modeling reputation as an aggregation of availability and reliability has been explained. This research concludes two results. First, counting on probability of a service being up/running and its failure trend, together, results in a better estimation of its behavior and helps selecting the most appropriate one. Second, this resulted in selection of a service with higher reputation but lower usage cost, as opposed to using a single factor that resulted in higher reputation with higher cost.

Opis:: Web services composition is an emerging software development paradigm for the implementation of distributed computing systems, the impact of which is very relevant both in research and industry. When a complex functionality has to be delivered on the Internet, a service integrator can produce added value by delivering more abstract and complex services obtained by composition of existing ones. But while isolated services availability can be improved by tuning and reconguring their hosting servers, with Composed Web Services (CWS) basic services must be taken as they are. In this case, it is necessary to evaluate the composition eects. The authors propose a high-level analysis methodology, supported by a tool, based on the transformation of BPEL descriptions of CWS into models based on the fault tree availability evaluation formalism that enables a modeler, unfamiliar with the underlying combinatorial probabilistic mathematics, to evaluate the availability of CWS, given components availability and expected execution behavior.

Opis:: This study presents a quantitative approach to mapping benthophagous fish feeding grounds. This approach combines the spatial biomass distribution of benthic prey items and their importance for the diets of predators. A point based biomass data of macrozoobenthos together with a set of environmental factors was used to develop Random Forests models that produce continuous biomass distribution layers for individual prey species. Depending on the diet composition and the importance of prey for fish feeding, these layers are overlaid and an integrated GIS map of the seabed showing the quality of feeding grounds is generated. These maps provide a useful basis for conservation and marine spatial planning. In addition, this method could be applied to the mapping of resources used by other benthophagous organisms. The method is presented using the example of three common Baltic fish species: cod, flounder and viviparous eelpout.

Opis:: The beginnings of the chapter of the collegiate church of St. Nicholas at Zagórze in Poznań date back to 1476-1484. It existed until the first years of the 19th century. In the years 1728-1802 the chapter consisted of a preposite and eight canons: four participating in the income and four expecting. From 1736 one of the four participating members was the preposite of the chapter. In this period the chapter was headed by four successive preposites and twenty one new canons were admitted who came mostly from the milieu of the lower ranks of cathedral clergy and the professorial staff of the Lubrański academy. The chapter procurator who was in charge of its income was elected at the chapter general for a one-year term at the end of which he had to present an account for the income and the expenses. General meetings were held shortly after Michaelmas and with some exceptions were summoned every year. Partial chapters should be held monthly but in fact were called rather rarely, on average once a year. Divine service - the principal purpose of the existence of the chapter - was celebrated throughout that period but in an extent reduced proportionally to smaller rents. At chapter meetings attention was drawn to diligence, promptness and piety in celebrating Divine service; for a time absentees were even punished with lower wages. All obligations - officia, anniversaries, votives - were performed personally or through substitutes
