Opis:: The aim of the paper is to analyse the length of time that ships spend in the Port of Gdansk. It is based on the examination of the time when ships come into and leave the port. Source of data used in the study is public web platform - Marine Traffic. Analysis which was conducted, enables to get information about duration of ships servicing in the port with a division into dimension, load capacity and type of the ship. Due to that information, it is possible to observe the duration of complete service for each vessel, including entering the harbour, reloading and the departure. Gained knowledge would allow to forecast, plan and model future development operations more properly. In addition, due to the method based on counting the number of hours that ships spend in the harbour, it is possible to estimate the amount of pollution emitted to the air.

Opis:: Webster’s delay model was published for the first time almost 60 years ago (exactly in 1958). Next year will be a round anniversary. It became an occasion to verify the model. The method described in the paper discusses thesis of general shifted distribution of service times. Proposes delay model allows to use variance of service time as one of the parameters of a traffic flow at signalized intersection.

Opis:: Variance of service times is the measure of dispersion in the process of vehicles service. The article includes results of observation and measurements on several signalized intersections in Katowice. Measurements permitted to estimate variance of service times. Results of simulation research was presented too.
Wariancja czasów obsługi stanowi miarę rozproszenia w procesie obsługi pojazdów. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań ruchu na skrzyżowaniach z sygnalizacją świetlną w Katowicach. Badania pozwoliły określić wariancję czasów obsługi. Zaprezentowano także wyniki badań symulacyjnych.

Opis:: We consider the M^θ/G/1/m system wherein the service time depends on the queuelength and it is determined at the beginning of customer service. Using an approach basedon the potential method proposed by V. Opis:: This paper presents an optimization analysis of a queuing system for a particular post office as a tool to increase system reliability. The consideration of system reliability in terms of queuing system failures is very relevant. One way to increase reliability is to analyse the system and its parameters in order to identify its most critical flaws. We used the chi-squared goodness-of-fit test based on the validation of a null hypothesis over an alternative hypothesis. The purpose of the test was to verify the correspondence of the measured data with a theoretical probability distribution. Measurements of relevant data were performed on the specific post office that represented the subject of our research. This approach proved to be a powerful tool in system analysis and optimization. The results of such an analysis can serve as the basis for the modelling of queuing systems.

Opis:: W artykule przedstawiono fragment procesu badania stanu technicznego rakiet po wieloletniej eksploatacji mającego na celu określenie możliwości ich dalszej eksploatacji po okresie gwarantowanym przez producenta, obejmujący badania naprężeń wewnętrznych w kulistych zbiornikach wysokociśnieniowych metodą tensometryczną. Omówiono przedmiot przeprowadzanych badań oraz zastosowane podczas badań procedury. Przedstawiono także wnioski z przeprowadzonych badań i analiz. Wykazano przydatność zastosowanych metod badawczych w procesie badania stanu technicznego elementów rakiet po wieloletniej eksploatacji.
A part of technical status assessment process is presented in the paper dealing with the extension of service life time of missiles after expiring the warranty period and especially with testing internal material stresses of high pressure spherical containers by a strain gauge method. The subject of tests and applied procedures are described. Among some conclusions presented there is a main one that testing methods described in the paper are suitable for assessing the technical status of missiles subjected to long term storing.

Opis:: Hysteretic control of arrivals is one of the most easy-to-implement and effective solutions of overload problems occurring in SIP-servers. A mathematical model of an SIP server based on the queueing system [...] with batch arrivals and two hysteretic loops is being analyzed. This paper proposes two analytical methods for studying performance characteristics related to the number of customers in the system. Two control policies defined by instants when it is decided to change the system’s mode are considered. The expression for an important performance characteristic of each policy (the mean time between changes in the system mode) is presented. Numerical examples that allow comparison of the efficiency of both policies are given.

Opis:: A numerical example allowing for effective forecasting of the remaining service time for corroded steel shell of a tank used to store liquid petroleum fuels is presented. This time is interpreted here as a period of time counted from the moment of an obligatory tank shell inspection to the moment of the anticipated shell failure understood as the loss of the capacity to safely resist the loads applied to it. Reaching the limit value of failure probability, i.e. the highest probability of failure acceptable to the tank user, is in this approach a determinant of such failure. The detailed considerations pertain to a typical on-the-ground storage tank equipped with a floating roof, located in one of fuel depots in the south of Poland. The forecast has been prepared based on measurements of the random thickness of tank shell weakened by corrosion and measured after 27 years of service time. In the recommended analysis fully probabilistic computational procedures have been applied. This led to a more credible and less conservative service time assessment than the one usually determined via the traditional standard approach. For comparative purposes qualitatively different but formally corresponding safety measures have been applied to describe the obtained results.

Opis:: W pracy przedstawiono koncepcję wykorzystania teorii masowej obsługi do badania i usprawnienia systemu zabezpieczenia logistycznego sytuacji kryzysowych w kontekście gorących potrzeb ludności poszkodowanej. W tym celu w modelowym systemie zostały wyodrębnione 4 dziedzinowe systemy robocze i nadrzędny system kierowania. Mechanizm funkcjonowania kryzysowego systemu masowej obsługi zilustrowano na przykładzie wybranego Systemu Ratownictwa Medycznego.
The paper presents the concept of the use of mass service theory to investigate and improve the logistic emergency response system in the context of the hot needs of the affected population. The most important criterion for the functioning of such a system is the praxeological requirement for the immediate handling of the respondents according to their basic needs. Practically, this means the postulate of minimizing queue length of people waiting for certain benefits (service). For this purpose, the four system work systems and the parent steering system were separated in the model system. The operation mechanism of the mass-service crisis system is illustrated by the example of the selected Medical Rescue System

Opis:: We propose a method for determining the characteristics of a single-channel closed queueing system with an exponential distribution of the time generation of service requests and arbitrary distributions of the service times. In order to increase the system capacity, two service modes (the main mode and overload mode), with the service time distribution functions F ( x ) and F ( x ) respectively, are used. The overload mode starts functioning if at the beginning of service of the next customer the number of customers in the system ξ(t ) satisfies the condition ξ (t ) > h2. The return to the main mode carried out at the beginning of service of the customer, for which ξ (t ) = h1, where 1 ≤ h1 < h2. The Laplace transforms for the distribution of the number of customers in the system during the busy period and for the distribution function of the length of the busy period are found. The developed algorithm for calculating the stationary characteristics of the system is tested with the help of a simulation model constructed with the assistance of GPSS World tools.
