New Silk Road – a Weak or a Strong Signal?
Autorzy:
Ejdys, Joanna
Wydawca:
Elsevier
Opis:
On the one hand, the instability of the environment makes it necessary for the organizations to possess the ability to detect weak signals, and on the other, to prepare for the signals generated by these changes. The article attempts to examine the proposed project, i.e. the New Silk Road (NSR), as a weak signal, determining the future development of the region – Podlaskie Province. The article indicated the assumptions of construction of the regional development strategy aimed at breaking down barriers relating to weak signals. In particular, three categories of barriers defined by Ansoff as filters were included: surveillance filter, mentality filter and the power filter.

Opis:
The main aim of this paper is to propose Cubic Spline-Quantum Neural Network (CS-QNN) model for analysis and classification of Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Experimental data used here were taken from seven different electrodes. The work has been done in three stages, normalization of the signals, extracting the features by Cubic Spline Technique (CST) and classification using Quantum Neural Network (QNN). The simulation results showed that five types of EEG signals were classified with an average accuracy for seven electrodes that is 94.3% when training 70% of the features while with an average accuracy of 92.84% when training 50% of the features.

Opis:
Broadband and ultra-wideband signals are increasingly used in modern radio systems. Traditional performance of evaluation antennas operating with narrowband signals are not always adequately reflect the characteristics of broadband antennas, at least in view of the frequency dependence of the antenna pattern. Accounting for broadband signals the antennas becomes important in the low-frequency range of the spectrum. Systems using these types of signals may include control of the atmosphere and measuring its frequency-selective properties in the range meter and decameter wavelengths. Possibility of spatial selection based on focusing of broadband signals in this case promises to implement a number of additional features. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the properties of antennas based on the spectral content of the signal, as well as taking into account the ways of its processing in the receiving equipment. Consideration features of functioning the antenna array, focused on broadband signal is devoted to this article.

Opis:
An important issue at the design stage of the auditory danger signal for a safety system is the signal audibility under various conditions of background noise. The auditory danger signal should be clearly audible but it should not be too loud to avoid fright, startling effects, and nuisance complaints. Criteria for designing auditory danger signals are the subject of the ISO 7731 (International Organization for Standardization [ISO], 1986) international standard and the EN 457 European standard (European Committee for Standardization [CEN], 1992). It is required that the A-weighted sound pressure level of the auditory danger signal is higher in level than the background noise by 15 dB. In this paper, the results of an experiment are reported, in which listeners adjusted most preferred levels of 3 danger signals (tone, sweep, complex sound) in the presence of a noise background (pink noise and industrial noise). The measurements were done for 60-, 70-, 80- and 90-dB A-weighted levels of noise. Results show that for 60-dB level of noise the most preferred level of the danger signal is 10 to 20 dB above the noise level. However, for 90-dB level of noise, listeners selected a level of the danger signal that was equal to the noise level. Results imply that the criterion in the existing standards is conservative as it requires the level of the danger signal to be higher than the level of noise regardless of the noise level.

Opis:
Emotions as abstract phenomena are not easy to verbalize. On the lexical level, they are most frequently thematized or expressed through imagery. The article aims at elucidating a rarely discussed problem of making emotions lingual employing sound phrasemes. Sounds and noises of animate as well as inanimate nature are in the centre of the cognitive explorations. The sounds and noises are metaphorically mapped on the abstract, hard-to-reach target domain of emotions. The analyses will be conducted on German and Polish phrasemes.

Opis:
W pracy omówiono biomechaniczne podstawy funkcjonowania narządu żucia człowieka, występujące zaburzenia czynnościowe oraz instrumentalne metody diagnostyki czynnościowej. Na podstawie analizy dotychczas stosowanych metod diagnostyki zaburzeń czynności narządu żucia zaproponowano nową koncepcję kompleksowego pomiaru trajektorii ruchu żuchwy z równoczesną rejestracją towarzyszących ruchom sygnałów akustycznych i sygnałów elektromiograficznych (EMG). Do trójwymiarowej rejestracji ruchu żuchwy zastosowano kamerę wideo oraz świecące znaczniki umieszczone na głowie badanej osoby. Przetestowano różne przetworniki mikrofonowe do poprawnego odbioru sygnału akustycznego towarzyszącego ruchom stawu żuchwowo-skroniowego. Omówiono zagadnienia rejestracji sygnałów EMG. Przedstawiono wyniki przeprowadzonych badań trajektorii ruchu żuchwy oraz analizy.
In the paper fundamentals of biomechanics of the human masticatory system, its dysfunctions and instrumental diagnostic methods, are presented. Based on the analysis of methods commonly used in diagnostics of functional disorders of the masticatory system, a new conception for complex measurement of jaw movements is proposed, with simultaneous recording of accompanying acoustical and electromyographic (EMG) signals. For three-dimensional recording of the jaw movements, a video camera was used and light-emitting markers placed on the head of a patient. Several microphone transducers were tested for proper recording of the acoustical signal associated with jaw joint movements. Recording techniques for EMG signals are discussed. Results of examination of the jaw movement trajectory, as well as analysis of acoustical signals are presented

Opis:
In a recent paper, the authors have presented the unified theory of n-dimensional (n-D) complex and hypercomplex analytic signals with single-orthant spectra. This paper describes a specific form of these signals called quasi-analytic. A quasi-analytic signal is a product of a n-D low-pass (base-band) real (in general non-separable) signal and a n-D complex or hypercomplex carrier. By a suitable choice of the carrier frequency, the spectrum of a low-pass signal is shifted into a single orthant of the Fourier frequency space with a negligible leakage into other orthants. A measure of this leakage is defined. Properties of quasi-analytic signals are studied. Problems of polar representation of quasi-analytic signals and of its lower rank representation are discussed.

Opis:
Multidimensional analysis of hydroacoustic data is usually conducted by way of presentation of the signal information decomposed into dimensions of time and frequency using a short term Fourier transform inform of a spectrogram. Same shortfalls of such visual analysis come into place when studying a signal coming from a source changing its distance from the receiver set because of the variations in the signal strength. The proposed method suggests same ways of such normalization scheme that will diminish the influence of these variations by way multiplication of the spectra by a compensation function dependent of time.

Opis:
The paper presents a numerical approach to modelling the detection of underwater targets with a bi- or multistatic active sonar systems in the shallow water areas using different waveform signals. The results of the numerical modelling of surface, bubble clouds and bottom reverberation for CW and using up and down time-varying instantaneous frequency of chirp signals are presented. Some suggestions are made on the basis of the development and practicality for the shallow sea modeling techniques and approaches to existing sonar models. The paper reports the literature of the model components required for active sonar modelling for different propagation conditions. Some examples of scattering of CW and chirp source signals at bubble clouds and corrugated surfaces, and coherence are given. Active propagation and the system performance are surveyed and modelled adaptable to the specific environmental condition of the shallow sea area of the Gdansk Gulf.
