Opis:: It seems plausible that visual experiences of darkness have perceptual phenomenal content that clearly differentiates them from absences of visual experiences. I argue, relying on psychological results concerning auditory attention, that the analogous claim is true about auditory experiences of silence. More specifically, I propose that experiences of silence present empty spatial directions like "right" or "left", and so have egocentric spatial content. Furthermore, I claim that such content is genuinely auditory and phenomenal in the sense that one can, in principle, recognize that one is experiencing silence. This position is far from obvious, as the majority of theories concerning silence perception do not ascribe perceptual phenomenal content to experiences of silence.

Opis:: The purpose of this article is to present the phenomenon of silence in an organization. Silence is understood as a decision not to speak out in the face of irregularities in an organization or a need for improvements in that organization. Two types of silence are considered: silence as an effect of socially shared beliefs and silence as a tactic. In the article I also consider the issue of breaking the silence. The postulate of breaking the silence is consistent with the assignment of value to the involvement of the employee in the decision making process. Silence limits participation, creativity, and the multiplicity of voices and hinders changes in the organization.

Opis:: Instytucja ciszy wyborczej i zakres jej obowiązywania budzi spory i kontrowersje od lat. Zwolennicy tego rozwiązania podkreślają jej uspokajający i antyperswazyjny charakter. Przeciwny wskazują na notoryczne łamanie jej zakazów, przede wszystkim w internecie. Tymczasem instytucja ciszy wyborczej ma swój polityczny i społeczny sens a niedoskonałość regulacji prawnej nie musi wcale podważać zasadności jej funkcjonowania. Celem artykułu jest analiza rozwiązań prawnych stosowanych na świecie i składających się na różne modele instytucji ciszy wyborczej. Ich porównanie pozwoli na zidentyfikowanie rozwiązań uniwersalnych oraz wskaże na obszary wymagające zmiany.
The institution of election silence as well as its scope has been a subject of debates and controversies for years. Supporters of election silence underline its moderating and anticoaxing character. The opponents point to inveterate breaching of its rules, particularly on the Internet. For all that, the institution of election silence serves some political and social purposes and imperfections of its execution do not have to perforce undermine its merits. The aim of the present paper is to analyse legal solutions concerning election silence that have been implemented around the world and that constitute sundry models of this institution. Comparing them allows for identifying universal solutions and areas worth reforming.

Opis:: The authorisation for removing trees constituting a common nature protection instrument was supplemented in 2017 by the obligation to notify the intention to remove trees. The right to notify and object to the intention of tree removal corresponds conceptually to the model of positive silence provided for in the amended Code of Administrative Procedure as one of the ways of administrative silence. Our objective is to analyse procedural solutions and the substantive institution of environmental protection law which consists in a notification from the point of view of assessing the correctness of its application when considering law science and administrative proceedings

Opis:: Galenosphere is an environment of silence. The paper addresses the issue of the essence and significance of galenosphere. To this end, it presents the structure and functioning of galenosphere, i.e. its two crucial components. Moreover, the structure of galenosphere includes static and dynamic elements. The latter determine the functioning of this type of environment. Eight most important sectors that affect the operation of galenosphere were identified. Some of them (the culture of language, noise elimination, creating an environment promoting silence and a prayer for silence) contribute to the emergence of a structured environment of silence, whereas others (positive attitude towards calming down, concentration of the mind and emotions, inner concentration and the ability to be silent) constitute components which directly participate in the formation of an environment of silence. A structured environment of silence is the most effective in operation. The paper points out various advantages offered to the human being by a structured galenosphere. The most significant ones include: successful self-improvement, improvement of spoken and written language skills, effective pedagogic activities, establishing good relationships with other people and getting a deeper insight into the sense of life. The discussion leads to the conclusion that the human being should be provided with optimal working conditions and conditions for development in various areas by the formation of a structured galenosphere (in the family, at school, in the office, etc.).

Opis:: W artykule scharakteryzowana jest relacja między tzw. dojmującym milczeniem (indywidualnym i zbiorowym) a nie-milczeniem, rozumianym jako zerwanie milczenia. Z tej perspektywy przedstawione są trzy zagadnienia: problem współczesnego kryzysu słowa (którego początki sięgają przełomu dziewiętnastego i dwudziestego wieku); kwestie napięć między milczeniem a językiem w świetle „zwrotu lingwistycznego” w drugiej połowie dwudziestego wieku i jego konsekwencjami w humanistyce; związek między milczeniem a podejściem nieantropocentrycznym w badaniach kulturowych.
The article presents the characteristics of the relationship between the so-called piercing silence (individual and collective) and non-silence, which is understood as the breaking of silence. Three issues are focused on from this perspective: the problem of the contemporary word crisis (which dates back as far as the turn of the 19th century); the issues of the tensions between silence and language in view of the ‘linguistic turn’ in the second half of the 20th century and its consequences in the humanities; the connection between silence and the non-anthropocentric approach in cultural studies.

Opis:: This article analyses the essence and roles of silence in the œuvres of Mallarmé and Valéry. The Mallarmé’s musicality gradually gives way to the silent music of words; poetry is becoming spatial and takes the form of the music score. In the poem Coup de dés it gets up to the incarnation of silence which shows the ideal of the Mallarmé’s musicality; the ideal in which an eye serves to listen. The theme of music and silence reappears in the Valery’s œuvre. In spite of the connection between music and architecture, which can incarnate silence, poetry uses the subjectivism of music and the ambiguity of silence to achieve the ideal of pure art which is hidden in the artist’s interior. Silence as nothingness is the starting point for poetry whereas non-incarnated silence can express the mystical sense of poetry

Opis:: The expression “Pinteresque” describing the characteristic features of Harold Pinter’s artistic output, established its position as a literary critical denominator many years ago. The aim of this article is to analyze some of the specific aspects of the playwright’s use of language. On several occasions, the artist made comments pertaining to certain issues concerning communication. He rejected the idea of the alienation of language and promoted the concept of evasive communication, thus showing people’s unwillingness to communicate. He also spoke about two kinds of silence, the first referring to a situation where there is actual silence, when “no word is spoken,” and the second , when “a torrent of language is being employed” in order to cover the character’s “nakedness.” Accordingly, Pinter’s plays may, depending on their perspective, be treated as dramas of language or of silence. This led Peter Hall, Pinter’s favourite theatre director and also a close friend, to notice that in the playwright’s oeuvre there is a clear distinction beween three dots, a pause and a silence. This article discusses in detail the uneven distribution of pauses and silences in Harold Pinter’s 1977 play, Betrayal. It becomes evident that the use of different kinds of silence clearly indicates the emotional state of the characters at any given moment.

Opis:: Siegfried Lenz’s novella (2008, English edition 2009) has not only been appreciated by literary critics, but also turned out to be a great bestseller. The novella is a frequent subject of research analysis, es- pecially in terms of its location in the tradition of German and world novella writing. This diversity of reception is astonishing and presents an interesting phenomenon. The novella tells a banal love story, but through an intentional silence and a series of intertextual tropes it also creates mysteriousness. The analysis proposed here is based on Walter Benjamin’s notion of “aura” in the 1930s. From today’s point of view, this concept requires a few additions, primarily from the perspective of systems theory. As it turns out this concept can be applied both to the content of the novella and to the strategy of literary criticism, as well as to explain the role of form and context in the personal perception of the text.
