Opis:
This article aims to present the attitude of young consumers to issues related to the ecological approach to life at the time of the popularisation of smart devices and homes. The article was written based on secondary and primary sources of information. Direct research was conducted using the online survey technique in 2021 on a sample of 588 consumers aged 18–34 years living in Poland. The declarations of the respondents show that they have a positive attitude towards the use of smart homes and devices that facilitate the implementation of an ecological lifestyle. Positive answers refer to the use of smart homes and devices that improve the comfort and conditions of life, leading to savings in electricity, water and gas, and also offer the possibility for a healthier lifestyle and control over one's health and well-being.

Graph-based representation of behavior in detection and prediction of daily living activities

Opis:
Various surveillance systems capture signs of human activities of daily living (ADLs) and store multimodal information as time line behavioral records. In this paper, we present a novel approach to the analysis of a behavioral record used in a surveillance system designed for use in elderly smart homes. The description of a subject's activity is first decomposed into elementary poses - easily detectable by dedicated intelligent sensors - and represented by the share coefficients. Then, the activity is represented in the form of an attributed graph, where nodes correspond to elementary poses. As share coefficients of poses are expressed as attributes assigned to graph nodes, their change corresponding to a subject's action is represented by flow in graph edges. The behavioral record is thus a time series of graphs, which tiny size facilitates storage and management of long-term monitoring results. At the system learning stage, the contribution of elementary poses is accumulated, discretized and probability-ordered leading to a finite list representing the possible transitions between states. Such a list is independently built for each room in the supervised residence, and employed for assessment of the current action in the context of subject's habits and a room purpose. The proposed format of a behavioral record, applied to an adaptive surveillance system, is particularly advantageous for representing new activities not known at the setup stage, for providing a quantitative measure of transitions between poses and for expressing the difference between a predicted and actual action in a numerical way.

Opis:
Smart world is planned as an epoch in which objects (e.g., watches, mobile phones, computers, cars, buses and trains) can immediately and intelligently serve people in a coefficient manner. Internet of things links up everything in the smart world. Internet of things allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across exiting network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more-direct integration between the physical world and computer – based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefits. Each thing is exclusively different through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the surviving internet infrastructure. Today’s earth encloses a smart reminder that the internet of things can be made green- and green technology can be maximized with smart use of IoT. IoT implement the collection of data at finer levels of details, and deeper analysis of that data, business and individuals can drive bigger results from smaller changes to their immediate environment. Internet of things is that things can correspond to each other without human with each other and helps to save energy with user. This permits peoples and things to be connected Anytime, Anyplace, with anything and anyone, ideally using any path/network and any service. Green IoT forecast to familiarize changes in our daily life and would help realizing the vision of “Green ambient intelligence”.

Opis:
In the era of technological processes automation development, the popularization of house automation, constant limitation of human participation in these processes, as well as the intensification in the field of broadly understood IoT, such devices are increasingly used for remote monitoring and control of various processes. In recent years, the ESP32 platform has gained a significant increase in the popularity of the IoT market. It is often used for logging and remote controlled devices, mostly in smart home solutions. Such devices often have to be small and have long battery work-time. The test results presented in the article will allow for a proper selection of working parameters in order to achieve the most optimal energy efficiency (smallest losses) while performing the assumed task.

Opis:
This Research Topic addresses the eleventh Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which is to “make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.” Several individual targets and indicators measure progress toward this goal. Researchers study, among others, urban inclusion, the influence of urban policy on socioeconomic disparities, and gentrification. This Research Topic primarily addresses the challenges and complexities of sustainable urban planning and development concerning decent work, economic growth, and associated crises due to their significant impact on urban living. The presented selection of papers was edited in collaboration with the “Frontiers in Sociology” journal and includes five articles prepared in total by ten authors from the following countries: Albania, Canada, Italy, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. Three types of articles are included: one original research article (Guerra and Sousa), two review articles (Beretta and Bracchi; Sengupta and Sengupta), and two conceptual analyses (Ciampi and Sessa; Contini and Osmanaj). This Research Topic discusses themes covering social inclusion, neighborhood development, post-pandemic development, environmental justice, green cities and communities, climate-neutral cities and communities, smart cities and communities, and smart homes.
