There is a growing interest in adult education during the last two or three decades. It is because of many reasons but the two crucial ones seem to be: the aging process characteristic for most European countries and a rapid development of modern world bringing the necessity of continuing education and updating of professional qualifications. Traditional and formal educational systems do not seem to be adequate to the educational needs in such situation. It is especially visible when we look at this problem from the perspective of local communities and their existing educational services. Looking form the perspective of educational and developmental needs of adult and elderly people in local communities, there is a big discrepancy between their needs and the offer of the educational system. That brings the necessity of looking for new approaches to adult education. This paper presents the project that aims at building a model adult education on the local level that can help the development of key competencies of adults and elderly people in local communities. The project named “Local Centres of Knowledge and Education” was initiated in 2017 with participation of different partners such as Universities, Local Communities and Municipalities, Associations of Municipalities, NGO’s, etc. The main aim of the project was to propose a model of adult education in local community and pilot it in different places in Poland. 15 local communities interested in piloting the proposed model were invited to take part in one-year-long project that will try to diagnose the educational needs of adults in local communities, design an educational offer and deliver it to the members of those local communities. It started in September 2017 and ended in June 2018. This paper presents the results of that project with a special focus on the ways in which Local Centres of Knowledge and Education (LOWE) were organised and run. Four different types of local centres’ organization are described with cases of real LOWE used to illustrate the differences. Recommendations for the development of adult learning are also presented.

The article presents the basic issues of social pedagogy presented by Helena Radlińska in 1908 during a meeting at the Krakow Circle of Teachers of Higher Schools in Krakow. In her talk, she presented issues of education and social development in a wider historical background. She made reference to international and national experiences. In the conclusion of her speech, she called for the dissemination and socialization of upbringing and social assistance for the poorest social groups.

Opis:
The objective of the article is to evaluate the role of the regulation of international space law for the realization of international economic and social development. Aiming for that, a logical-deductive methodology was used, through bibliographic research to map relevant issues about the spatial infrastructure and the current understanding of social economic development. In this sense, the study was carried out through its development in three parts: first the mapping of international space law to demonstrate the progress of investments and activities that are carried out around the space infrastructure; in a second step, the interaction between economic and social development and brief economic discussions about the market and state action are analyzed; finally, it deals with the importance of regulation on space exploration as a promotion mechanism for international economic and social development. It was concluded that there are private and public actors in this exploratory market and their actions must occur together, as they often occur within countries, aiming to promote economic development as freedom, and that the State’s action must be guided by the regulation of space infrastructure; this regulation must aim at economic and social development in a way that is compatible with Amartya Sen’s theory.

For many countries the Industrial Revolution was an opportunity for a dynamic economic development, but it was accompanied by deep social changes. Inequalities between regions have deepened, pollution has increased and also conjunctural fluctuations have intensified. In contemporary view at the social welfare there is a tendency to abandon identifying it with the level of income. Also, the research on the causes of socio-economic success is developing. One of the aspects of the research, which the article refers to, is the role of the institutions (within the meaning of institutional economics) in the socio-economic development. The aim of the paper is to examine the relationship between indicators of institutional environment and indices related to socio-economic development. For the analysis of the institutional environment the indices published by the World Bank under the name of Worldwide Governance Indicators were used. The analysis of socio-economic level of the countries is based on Sustainable Society Index and its components, which include a wide range of factors related to well-being. The analysis was conducted in two stages. The first stage is a general study of the correlation between WGI and SSI for 151 countries from different continents. The second stage includes a more detailed analysis conducted for the European Union, using the cluster method and the analysis of the level of indicators in groups of countries. The study is based on the data from 2010.

This paper is devoted to three basic problems: gender stereotypes, styles of sexual education and the relation between these two phenomena. The main question is: do the styles of sexual education experienced in a family determine the tendency to use gender stereotypes? Basing on the literature, a hypothetical model of relation between styles of sexual education and gender stereotypes was constructed. The model was a source of investigations conducted by the author and described in the paper. Young adults’ tendency to use gender stereotypes seems to be determined by their mothers’ stereotypes and by three styles of sexual education experienced in their families.

It would not be much of an exaggeration to say that the notion of ecological and social embeddedness is one of the most exploited philosophical ideas these days, both in the academia and beyond. The most troublesome about the overall trend is that many proponents of the idea of social embeddedness simplistically consider selfhood as a form of aberration which merely provides vindication for inequality and violence. In this paper, instead of attacking the problem of the individual versus the collective head-on, I approach it by way of a critique of Stephen Turner’s repudiation of transcendental collectivism (Turner, 1994; Turner, 2010). According to Turner, transcendental entities, such as tacit knowledge, presuppositions, or traditions, should be altogether removed from explanatory schemata in the social sciences. I believe that Turner’s razor cuts too deep and the rejection of implicit framing is at best premature. Against the background of the identified shortcomings of Turner’s model of interactive learning, I track the interrelations between social development and the development of the self with an eye to showing that the relationship between individual selves and social reality is an extremely complex and multifactorial matter which we cannot hope to navigate without a proper transcendental frame. The frame is what mediates the relationship between the individual and the collective.

Freedom manifests itself in many areas of social life as a necessary development factor. In economics, freedom is key to ensuring the basic principles of trade and business. In politics, freedom is unfettered exchange of ideas and actions, leading to the best choices authority and directions of social change. Freedom is also necessary for human development, in which individuals realize their life goals and aspirations. The aim of the article is to present the results of research on the impact of freedom on the main areas of social life. It turns out that freedom is a necessary factor of socio-economic development that mobilizes individuals to act. On the other hand, the comprehensive process of socioeconomic development is in essence a process of expanding freedom.

On January 1, 2020 the new Foreign Investment Law of the People’s Republic of China (中华人民共和国外商投资法) entered into force to promote investments in China. The aim of the law is to foster cross border investments. This law was passed on March 15, 2019 by the National People’s Congress. The Chinese FDI legal framework is composed of a set of laws and regulations that are dynamically shaping the economic reality. What are the possible tensions between the new law and the complex system of values in China? Is the new law an agent of implementing de facto social development? In summary, the results show that there is a complex relationship between FDI and social development in China. The new Chinese law might be an inspirational source of non-European legal tradition for Central Europeans.

The dissertation entitled "Social competences of only children and pupils with siblings, in the opinion of teachers, parents and children, on the example of sixth graders of primary schools in Busko Zdrój and Cracow", refers to the social competences of sixth graders. The aim was getting to know the opinions of teachers, parents and children from Busko Zdrój and Cracow, about the social competences of sixth grades of primary school. The work consists of four chapters, summaries and conclusions, bibliography, netography and an annex with tools to research. Based on the literature of the subject, the theoretical part presents the role of the family and school environment in cultivation social competences, ways of diagnosing and developing social competences, and review of current research on them. In the methodological section concluded a description of the research carried out. On the other hand, chapter four refers to the presentation and analysis of the findings, which answered on questions included in specific problems. The research was carried out using the diagnostic survey method. The research groups were teachers, parents and students. The research area covered the primary schools in Busko Zdrój and Cracow.
Praca pod tytułem „Kompetencje społeczne jedynaków i uczniów posiadających rodzeństwo, w opinii nauczycieli, rodziców oraz dzieci, na przykładzie uczniów klas szóstych szkół podstawowych w Busku Zdroju i Krakowie”, dotyczy kompetencji społecznych szóstoklasistów. Jej celem było poznanie opinii nauczycieli, rodziców oraz dzieci z Buska Zdroju i Krakowa, na temat posiadanych przez uczniów klas szóstych szkół podstawowych kompetencji społecznych. Praca złożona jest z czterech rozdziałów, podsumowania i wniosków końcowych, bibliografii, netografii oraz aneksu z narzędziami badawczymi. Na podstawie literatury przedmiotu, w części teoretycznej przedstawiono rolę środowiska rodzinnego i szkolnego w kształtowaniu kompetencji społecznych, sposoby diagnozowania i rozwijania kompetencji społecznych oraz przegląd dotychczasowych badań nad nimi prowadzonych. W części metodologicznej, przedstawiono opis procedury przeprowadzonych badań. Natomiast, rozdział czwarty dotyczy prezentacji i analizy otrzymanych wyników, na podstawie których odpowiedziano na pytania badawcze zawarte w problemach szczegółowych. Badania zostały przeprowadzone za pomocą metody sondażu diagnostycznego. Wyodrębnione grupy badawcze stanowili nauczyciele, rodzice oraz uczniowie. Terenem badań objęto szkoły podstawowe w Busku Zdroju i Krakowie.
