Opis:: Social risk is an interdisciplinary concept used with various meanings in the social and in the natural sciences. The article presents some of the social insights into this concept, particularly in connection with the global environmental research project and with geography. The special dimension of social risks, as well as some current methodological aspects regarding models and the main indicators used in the multidimensional assessment of social risks are analysed at local, regional and national levels. Of special interest is the link between social risks and a series of key-concepts, such as: hazard, impact, social vulnerability, resilience, adaptive capacity.

Opis:: The article critically examines the modernization of the Higher Education (HE) sector from the perspective of reflexive modernization. The source of radical change of HE in Poland was the neoliberal institutional solution, opening HE institutions to privatization, competition and marketization and liberating them from the heteronomous bureaucratic structure legitimized by the conditions of the previous system. To explain the nature of the changes in Higher Education, three analytical categories of reflexive modernization are used as heuristic tools: individualization, risk and reflexivity.

Opis:: This publication is an attempt to draw attention to the outreach approach in social work. The work is as a result of the author’s experience rather than from scientific literature and expresses the importance of the implementation approach during the current situation of social problem explosion. Opis:: The subject of social insurance law has a thematic scope, which can be variously defined and thus not uniformly used in jurisprudence. The subject of social insurance law should be distinguished from the subject of social insurance. In the definition of the subject of social insurance law, the role of contributions that distinguish insurance systems from social security systems needs to be taken into account. Apart from the contributions, the number of subjects in the social insurance law equates with the number of legally defined benefits. The thematic scope of the subject of social insurance law should be determined according to the catalog of social risks secured by social insurance law. While noting the subject of insurance law in the context of diversified rights of certain categories of entities, the subject of social insurance law should be combined with the subject of abstractive legal relations in the field of social insurance. Therefore, the subject of social insurance law is the corresponding contributory obligation and protection obligations in the scope of social risk defined by this branch of law.

Opis:: Artykuł poświęcony jest pojęciom ryzyka socjalnego i ryzyka społecznego, a przede wszystkim świadomości ryzyka społecznego. Ma ona zasadnicze znaczenie w racjonalizowaniu polityki społecznej, a w jej ramach przede wszystkim polityki zabezpieczenia społecznego. Sprawne funkcjonowanie systemu ubezpieczeń społecznych musi się z kolei odnosić do katalogu ryzyk społecznych i ubezpieczeniowych zasad organizacji wspólnot ryzyka. Zdaniem autora badania podejmowane w celu opisu i wyjaśnienia stosunku do ubezpieczeń społecznych mają zmierzać do ustalenia nie tylko opinii na temat obciążeń składkowych na te ubezpieczenia, skali zadowolenia z ewentualnie otrzymywanych świadczeń z tych ubezpieczeń i zaufania do instytucji z nimi kojarzonej. Efektem tych badań powinna być także diagnoza stosunku społeczeństwa do idei i reguł ubezpieczenia społecznego, a zwłaszcza rozpoznanie stopnia zrozumienia konieczności odwoływania się w systemie ubezpieczeń społecznych równocześnie do pojęcia ryzyka społecznego, do ubezpieczeniowej wspólnoty ryzyka i do solidaryzmu. Ważna jest zatem również odpowiedź na pytanie o możliwość ukierunkowania edukacji i komunikacji społecznej obejmującej ten ważny obszar kształtowania stosunków społecznych, jakim jest zapewnienie bezpieczeństwa socjalnego.
This article is devoted to the social risk concepts, and above all to social risk awareness. This is essential in the rationalization of social policy and, above all, social security policy. The smooth functioning of the social insurance system must in turn refer to the social risks catalog and insurance policies of the organization of risk communities. According to the author, the research undertaken to describe and explain the relationship to social insurance is intended to determine not only the opinion on contributions to these insurance policies, the extent of satisfaction with the insurance benefits they receive and confidence in the institutions associated with them. The result of this research should also be the diagnosis of the attitude of society to the ideas and rules of social insurance, and especially the recognition of the degree of understanding in the need to resort to social insurance, while at the same time as the concept of social risk, the insurance community and solidarity. It is also important to answer the question of the possibility of directing education and social communication covering this important area of social relations, which is social security.

Opis:: Pracownikiem jest osoba wykonująca konkretne zajęcie na rzecz innej osoby, za które w zamian otrzymuje wynagrodzenie. W roku 2014 wskaźnik zatrudnienia w krajach Unii Europejskiej wyniósł 64,9%. Świadczy to o wysokim odsetku osób, które są narażone na tzw. ryzyka społeczne, takie jak śmierć, starość, choroba, wypadek, wypadek przy pracy czy choroba zawodowa, zagrażające nie tylko im samym (częściowa czy całkowita utrata zdolności do pracy), ale również osobom pozostającym z nimi we wspólnym gospodarstwie domowym (współmałżonkom, dzieciom, rodzicom) – przez utratę żywiciela. Nie istnieje jeden wspólny dla wszystkich krajów Unii Europejskiej mechanizm zabezpieczający pracowników przed negatywnymi skutkami realizacji ryzyk społecznych. Celem artykułu jest porównanie zabezpieczenia społecznego pracowników w wybranych państwach Unii Europejskiej.
A worker is someone who does specific work for another person and is paid for it. In 2014, the employment rate in the EU member states was 64.9%. This means that a large percentage of people are exposed to the so‑called social risks, such as death, old age, accidents (including at work) or sickness (including occupational diseases). These risks are not only a concern for workers, who might lose their ability to work, partially or completely, but also affect other household members, such as spouses, children or parents, who might lose their breadwinner. There is no common mechanism in the EU member states to protect workers from any of those risks materialising. The purpose of this article is to identify the funding sources of social security coverage for workers, the kinds of risks covered, and the benefits offered. To do that, a comparison was drawn of various social security schemes in selected EU member states, based on the available literature and materials. The comparison shows that there is no common mechanism in the EU member states to protect workers should any of the social risks materialise, and that social security contributions are a common source of funding benefit payments.

Opis:: The aim of the study is to discuss the issues of social security for people with disabilities in the commune of Cracow. The analysis has assessed the effectiveness of this system from the perspective of a disabled person. The examined group of the disabled was subjected to observation, then the characteristics. In the course of the research, the level of knowledge of the respondents on social security was verified. All the considerations were based on the analysis of the main research problem and the resulting hypotheses. Through empirical research, we managed to make a meaningful assessment of the effectiveness of the social security system for people with disabilities functioning in the commune of Cracow.
Celem opracowania jest omówienie problematyki zabezpieczenia społecznego osób niepełnosprawnych na terenie gminy Kraków. Analizie została poddana ocena efektywności funkcjonowania tego systemu z perspektywy osoby niepełnosprawnej. Badana grupa niepełnosprawnych została poddana obserwcji, nastepnie charakterystyce. W toku badań zweryfikowany został poziom wiedzy badanych na temat zabezpieczenia społecznego. Całość rozważań oparta była na analizie głównego problemu badawczego oraz wynikających z tego problemu hipotez. Drogą badań empirycznych udało się dokonać miarodajnej oceny efektywności systemu zabezpieczenia społecznego osób niepełnosprawnych funkcjonującego na terenie gminy Kraków.

Opis:: The article summarizes panel discussions led at the Polish Scientific Networks conference. It covers the topics of social and (un)social innovations, their sources, and applications, as well as the new approaches to the concept of the wisdom of the crowds (as opposed to swarm mentality).
