Opis:
Background: Reducing dietary salt intake is the method recommended by the experts as the non-pharmacological treatment of hypertension. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the amount of dietary sodium intake by hypertensive patients and to analyze the factors affecting sodium intake. The frequency of consumption of dietary products with high sodium content was also analyzed. Material and methods: We recruited for the study 60 patients with uncomplicated chronic hypertension, between 40 and 80 years old. A proprietary questionnaire was used during the study. The first part of the questionnaire included questions about gender, age, body weight, body height. The second part was a questionnaire on the frequency of consumption of sodium-rich products. It included 6 food groups. Another component of the study was a 24-hour dietary recall collected from two working days and one holiday. Analysis of the patient's diet was carried out using ALIANT software. The database was created in Microsoft Excel and statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 28. Results: In the study group, all respondents exceeded the salt intake standards recommended by scientific societies. The amount of sodium intake among men was significantly higher than in women (p = 0.011). There was no correlation between age, body mass index, place of residence or education and daily sodium intake. Among sodium-containing foods, patients most frequently consumed pizza, with 76.67% of respondents consuming it once a month or more often. The most commonly used condiment was table salt, used by 95% of respondents. Conclusions: Patients suffering from uncomplicated hypertension do not achieve the target of dietary sodium restriction to the values recommended in scientific guidelines. As dietary sodium intake standards are exceeded, hence the need for more intensive nutrition education among hypertensive patients.

Opis:
The flotation separation of barite from calcite using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the collector and sodium silicate (SS) as the depressant has been concretely studied in this paper. The results show that SDS has high collecting ability for both barite and calcite and that the flotation separation of barite from calcite cannot be achieved by using SDS alone. The depressant sodium silicate has a selective depression effect on calcite by the control of the pulp pH at 9.0 in the presence of SDS. Through locked cycle tests, a concentrate containing 95.54% BaSO4 can be obtained from an actual ore containing 24.5% BaSO4, with a recovery of 86.11%. The zeta potential measurements, adsorption analysis and infrared spectrum studies reveal that the pre-adsorption of sodium silicate strongly favors the adsorption of SDS on the calcite surface and adversely affects SDS adsorption on the barite surface. This property is the reason for the selective depression of SS on calcite.

Opis:
The emulsified sodium vegetable oleate (ESVO) was prepared with low-cost vegetable oleate. Using ESVO as a collector, the flotation performance of fluorite had been investigated comparing with sodium oleate at a temperature of 20 ± 2 °C. The results of flotation showed that ESVO had better collecting performance than the sodium oleate. The interaction mechanism of these two collectors with fluorite was studied by the zeta potential, FTIR spectra and laser grain-size tests. Both ESVO and sodium oleate changed fluorite zeta potential by electrostatic attraction and chemical adsorption, and generated calcium carboxylate on the fluorite surface. Moreover, it was concluded that higher fluorite recovery was a consequence of ESVO smaller surface tension comparing to sodium oleate.

Opis:
The one-part geopolymer binder was synthesis from the mixing of aluminosilicate material with solid alkali activators. The properties of one-part geopolymers vary according to the type and amount of solid alkali activators used. This paper presents the effect of various sodium metasilicate-to-sodium aluminate (NaAlO2/Na2SiO3) ratios on fly ash-based one-part geopolymer. The NaAlO2/Na2SiO3 ratios were set at 1.0 to 3.0. Setting time of fresh one-part geopolymer was examined through Vicat needle apparatus. Mechanical and microstructural properties of developed specimens were analysed after 28 days of curing in ambient condition. The study concluded that an increase in NaAlO2 content delayed the setting time of one-part geopolymer paste. The highest compressive strength was achieved at the NaAlO2/Na2SiO3 ratio of 2.5, which was 33.65 MPa. The microstructural analysis revealed a homogeneous structure at the optimum ratio. While the sodium aluminium silicate hydrate (N-A-S-H) and anorthite phases were detected from the XRD analysis.

Opis:
This paper presents by-products from the production of STPP using a one-stage method. Sodium tripolyphosphate Na5P3O10 (STPP) is condensed inorganic polyphosphate applied in various branches of the industry. STPP exists in three crystalline forms: two anhydrous forms defined as Phase I and Phase II and the hydrate form (Na5P3O10ź6H2O). The methods of obtaining STPP in the form of Phase I or Phase II were developed and described. Data show that it is difficult to obtain only one of the phases which is not contaminated with at least a few percent of other phases and other sodium phosphates (pyrophosphates and/or metaphosphates).

Opis:
Background: Empagliflozin (EMPA), a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor, exhibits endothelial protective effects under disturbed flow conditions. Oscillatory shear stress (OSS) induces endothelial dysfunction via increased reactive oxygen species (ROS), intracellular $Ca^{2+}$, VE-cadherin phosphorylation, and inflammatory activation. We hypothesized that EMPA prevents OSS-induced dysfunction by inhibiting ROS through the NHE1/ $NCX/Ca^{2+}$ axis or Piezo1. Methods: Human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs) were pretreated with EMPA and exposed to LSS or OSS. Mechanistic studies included ROS scavenger NAC, calcium chelator BAPTA-AM, NHE1 inhibitor cariporide, NCX inhibitor ORM-10962, and Piezo1 knockdown. ROS, NO bioavailability, and $Ca^{2+}$ were measured using live cell imaging. VE-cadherin and ICAM-1 were evaluated by immunostaining; phosphorylation of VE-cadherin, SFK, ERK1/2, and Piezo1 was assessed by Western blot. Ex vivo en face staining of mouse aortas analyzed EMPA’s effect on endothelial SOD1 expression. Results: EMPA restored OSS-induced increases in ROS, $Ca^{2+}$, VE-cadherin phosphorylation, ICAM-1, and monocyte transmigration (all P < 0.05). Piezo1 knockdown or inhibitors of NHE1/NCX reduced ROS, with no additive effect when combined with EMPA, suggesting a shared pathway. NAC restored VE-cadherin but not ICAM-1. EMPA increased endothelial SOD1 expression in aortic arches, confirming the translational relevance of in vitro findings. Conclusions: EMPA prevents OSS induced ROS generation by the inhibition of the $NHE1/NCX/Ca^{2+}$ axis. The suppression of OSS-induced ROS generation by EMPA contributes to improved endothelial barrier function of endothelial cells but has limited effect on the inflammatory response in HCAECs subjected to OSS.

Opis:
Minerals present in potato tubers are of particular interest due to the value of this crop as a food crop. The purpose of the three-year study was to evaluate the effects of herbicide treatment and foliar feeding with organic biostimulants on the content and uptake of sodium and iron in tubers of two varieties of edible potato (Oberon and Malaga). The Malaga variety accumulated significantly more sodium and iron than the Oberon variety. On the other hand, higher tuber yield uptake of these components was recorded in the Oberon variety. Treatment with a weedkiller and a stimulant fertilizer increased the content and uptake of sodium and iron compared to tubers harvested from the control object, and the most favorable effect was shown by the mixture of the weedkiller with the biostimulant AgroSorb Folium. It is also worth noting that weather conditions had a significant effect on mineral content and uptake.
