Opis:
The goal of this article is to analyse the phenomenon of Velar Softening in English within the nonderivational framework of Optimality Theory. It is argued that earlier approaches, including the traditional OT model which incorporates purely phonological constraints and a single-UR approach to allomorphy, fail to account for the process in question in a satisfactory manner. Instead, it is claimed that Velar Softening can be explained in terms of the OT model which adopts a multiple-input view on allomorphy as well as the idea of morpho-phonological constraints. Thus, the paper offers a novel and more adequate analysis of this process.

Opis:
A stereological ubiquitiformal softening model for describing the softening behavior of concrete under quasi-static uniaxial tensile loadings is presented in this paper. In the model, both the damage evaluation process of fracture cross-sections and their distribution along the specimens axis are taken into account. The numerical results of a certain kind of full grade concrete made of crushed coarse aggregate are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. Moreover, an experiental relation between the lower bound to the scale invariance of concrete and its tensile strength is also obtained by data fitting of the experimental data, which provides an effective approach to determine the lower bound to scale invariance of concrete.

The aims of the current study is to investigate the constraint of using caustic soda in water treatment and evaluating its performance in water softening, compared to other chemical group, including lime and sodium carbonate. Based on mass balance of reactants in the caustic softening process, a mathematical relation for expressing the constraint of using caustic soda in water softening was derived. To evaluate caustic soda performance in water softening and proving the derived relation as well, some experimental works on some water sources including well water and clarifier’s inlet water in two oil refineries were performed. The results showed that compared to lime- sodium carbonate, the caustic soda is the best choice for water softening, however, using caustic soda in water softening, while restrictive mathematical relation doesn’t verify the chemical characteristics of water, could lead to an extreme increase in alkalinity.

Opis:
The flow softening behaviors of a nickel-based superalloy with o phase are investigated by hot compression tests over wide ranges of deformation temperature and strain rate. Electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). optical microscopy (OM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are employed to study the flow softening mechanisms of the studied superalloy. It is found that the flow softening behaviors of the studied superalloy are sensitive to deformation temperature and strain rate. At high strain rate and low deformation temperature, the obvious flow softening behaviors occur. With the increase of deformation temperature or decrease of strain rate, the flow softening degree becomes weaken. At high strain rate (1s-1), the flow softening is mostly induced by the plastic deformation heating and flow localization. However, at low strain rate domains (0.001-0.01s-1), the effects of deformation heating on flow softening are slight. Moreover, the flow softening at low strain rates is mainly induced by the discontinuous dynamic recrystallization and the dissolution of 6 phase (Ni3Nb).

Opis:
This paper presents the results of a study to determine the heat deflection temperature (HDT) and Vicat softening temperature (VST) of polymer matrix powder composites used for ablative shielding. The issue is of particular importance since, during ablative tests, the composite material is partially burnt (ablative layer). However, its remaining parts are additionally heated to a higher temperature, which is consequently associated with a change in the visco-elastic properties that depend, among other things, on the VST and HDT temperatures. In the conducted research, the authors used different mass percentages of powder modifiers (montmorillonite, halloysite, mullite, carbon nanotubes, silicon carbide) matrix base epoxy resin LH 145 Havel with the hardener H147 in the experiments. Apart from observing thermal properties that may change due to a modification of the composition of the composites, the effect of conditioning of the samples on the test results was also noticed. It is preheating a composite at a temperature as low as 55°C was observed to increase the HDT and VST by approximately 20°C and the composite hardness by approximately 3-7%.

Zjawisko cyklicznego umocnienia lub osłabienia metali i ich stopów jest znane od ponad 40 lat. Mimo tak dłu- giego okresu badań brak jest ogólnego opisu uniwersalnych modeli tych zjawisk. Podstawą w ich ocenie są badania doświadczalne prowadzone w warunkach obciążeń sinusoidalnych stałoamplitudowych. Wyróżnia się badania ze stałą amplitudą naprężenia lub stałą amplituda odkształcenia. Warunki te nie są równoważne w zakresie obciążeń, w których nie obowiązuje prawo liniowej zależności naprężenia od odkształcenia. Zagadnienie cyklicznego umocnienia lub osłabienia metali ich stopów istotnie komplikuje się w przypadku zmienno amplitudowych obciążeń, które są charakterystyczne dla obciążeń eksploatacyjnych elementów konstrukcyjnych. W niniejszej pracy opisano badania własności cyklicznych trzech stopów metali: stopu aluminium PA7 silnie umacniającego się cyklicznie, stali stopowej, 30HGSA podlegającej silnemu cyklicznemu osłabieniu oraz stali konstrukcyjnej C45, która w zależności od poziomu obciążenia ulega cyklicznemu osłabieniu lub cyklicznemu umocnieniu. Badania przeprowadzono w warunkach programowanych obciążeń ze stopniowo rosnącą amplitudą naprężenia.
The phenomenon of cyclic hardening or softening in metals and their alloys has been known for over 40 years. Despite such a long period of investigations there is lack of a general description of universal models of these phenomena. The basis of their valuation are tests performed under sine constant ampli- tude loadings. There can be found tests with constant stress ampli- tude or constant strain amplitude. These conditions are not equiva- lent for the range of loadings in which the law of the linear stress - strain relation is not valid. Indeed, the problem of cyclic hardening or softening in metals and their alloys becomes complicated in the case of variable amplitude loadings which are typical for the working loadings of the construction elements. In this paper there are presented investigations of cyclic properties of three metal alloys: PA7 aluminium alloy, which undergoes the strong cyclic hardening, 30HGSA alloy steel, which undergoes the strong cyclic softening and C45 construction steel, which undergoes cyclic hardening or cyclic softening, depending on the loading level. The tests were performed under programmed load- ings with gradually increasing stress amplitude.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of research on the modification of the face geometry of the refill friction stir spot welding tool sleeve for welding thin aluminum sheets with an Alclad and an oxide anode coating. The analysis of the impact of such modification on the process perform (tool motion parameters, temperature) and microstructure as well as mechanical strength of the lap joints were analyzed. The tests were carried out using aluminum alloy 2024-T3 sheets with thickness 1.27 mm. For comparative purposes,joints were also made using plates without an Alclad and without anodized coating with using unmodified tool and modified toolswith developed 3 variants of face geometry. The samples with the joint were subjected to metallographic and strength tests. It has been shown that the use of modified geometry has a decisive influence on the performance of the process and the effect of softening and mixing of materials in the zone of point connection.

Opis:
Void initiation and growth serve as an important mechanism in ductile failures in metals. Particularly, on the micron-level, the extra hardening effect associated with strain gradient is accounted for by adopting strain gradient elasto-plasticity instead of the conventional plasticity. Effects of inertial, strain gradient hardening and thermal softening are formulated analytically for the case where a spherical void expands under external hydrostatic stress. As demonstrated by our results, the inertia effect firstly tends to hinder but then promotes the void growth. The threshold stress required for rapid void growth is lifted due to extra hardening of strain gradient so that the growth of a smaller void is delayed more remarkably. A considerable thermal softening phenomenon is observed here, which is caused by plastic work during the deformation process. The final void growth rate is mainly related to the maximum loading, which is consistent with the prediction based on the classical plastic theory.

Hot tensile tests were carried out on Timetal-125 and Timetal-LCB near beta Ti alloys at temperatures in range of 600-1000°C and constant strain rate of 0.1 s-1. At temperatures below 700-800°C, the homogenuous and total strains for Timetal-LCB were greater than those for Timetal-125. In contrast, at temperatures over 800°C, Timetal-125 showed better hot ductility. The yield point phenomena was observed in Timetal-LCB at all temperatures. Unlikely, for Timetal-125, it was observed only at temperatures over 800°C. The weaker yield point phenomena in Timetal-125 could be attributed to the negative effect of Al on the diffusion of V. At all temperatures Timetal-LCB exhibited higher strength than Timetal-125. It was found that there should be a direct relationship between the extent of yield point phenomena and strength and dynamic softening through hot tensile testing. It was observed that at temperatures beyond 800°C (beta phase field in both alloys) dynamic recrystallization can progress more in Timetal-125 than in Timetal-LCB. These results were in good agreement with the better hot ductility of Timetal-125 at high temperatures. At low temperatures, i.e. below 700-800°C, partial dynamic recrystallization occurs in beta and dynamic globularization in alpha phase. These processes progress more in Timetal-LCB than in Timetal-125.

W 2004 roku Światowa Organizacja Zdrowia (Word Heath Organization – WHO) ustaliła wymagania, jakim powinna odpowiadać woda przeznaczona do spożycia przez ludzi.1 W przygotowanym przez nią dokumencie zawarto szereg zaleceń i przesłanek zdrowotnych dotyczących wymaganej jakości wody przeznaczonej na różne cele. Na podstawie zaleceń WHO wprowadzono w życie dyrektywę unijną obowiązująca w krajach Unii Europejskiej, a więc i w Polsce. Określono w niej wiele rygorystycznych, opartych na przesłankach zdrowotnych, standardów. Wskazano również wszystkie niezbędne środki, jakie muszą być podjęte, by zapewnić odpowiednią jakość wody.
In the paper is shown the impact of installing the water softener in a family house on the quality of water. Disturbances of comfort with water installation using (ex. blue water, deposits) cause to analyze water installation to find a solution. Comparison of the quality of inlet water into the building and water from top in the inner installation indicate that water quality problem in the building was associated with the inner water installation. Water softener in the building decrease the hardness of water to 0,09 mval/l (1.7 mg Ca/l), making it impossible to produce the protective layer in the copper heat exchanger in hot water buffer reservoir. The consequence of this was the water pollution in the installation by copper compounds, which began to precipitate on the fittings installed in building.
