Opis:
In 2017 the field experiments were established at two localities of the South-west Slovakia (1 Dolná Streda: sandy Arenosol and 2 Veľké Úľany: loamy Chernozem). The experiments involved biochar substrates (1 BS1 mix biochar, sheep manure and 2 BS2 mix biochar, sheep manure and digestate) in two application doses (10 and 20 t ha-1), which were applied independently compared with the unfertilized control (Co-NF) and combined with additional fertilization versus the fertilized control (Co-F), in order to verify their impacts on the changes of soil properties. In the spring and autumn of 2018–2020, within these experiments the soil samples were taken to determine the range of effect of the tested biochar substrates (BS) and also their combination with fertilization (F) on the changes of soil pH and surface charge of soil particles in the soils different in texture. The results pointed out the fact that a more significant effect of tested BS on soil pH was detected in sandy soil than loamy soil. In sandy soil, only the application of BS2 in doses 10 and 20 t ha-1 statistically significantly increased the soil pH in H2O in comparison with Co-NF. The application BS1 + F in dose 10 t ha-1 and BS2+F in dose 20 t ha-1 statistically significantly increased pH in KCl compared with Co-F. The fertilization to BS eliminated the considerable decrease of the soil pH in H2O both soils. In sandy soil, pH was substantially regulated by the content of alkali cations themselves in BS; however, in loamy soil, it occurred as a result of the increase of the content of soil organic carbon after the application of BS (R2 = 0.339), but also BS + F (R2 = 0.468). In sandy soil, the application of BS itself, owing to the change of the surface charge, influenced predominantly the sorption of anions. Conversely, the additional fertilization to BS treatments had an impact on the sorption of cations. In loamy soil, the application of BS and BS + F as a result of the change of surface charge did not have any significant effect on the total soil sorption.

Opis:
Biochar usually has a neutralizing effect, therefore, it is recommended for application to acid soils due to its potential to increase soil pH. The aims of this study were (1.) to quantify the role of different rates of biochar and biochar in combination with N fertilization on change of soil pH, and (2.) to evaluate the dynamic changes of soil pH in relation with doses of biochar and biochar with N fertilization. A field experiment was conducted with different biochar application rates: B0 control (0 t ha-1), B10 (10 t ha-1) and B20 (20 t ha-1) and 0, 40 and 80 kg N ha–1 of nitrogen fertilizer (N0, N40, N80) on silt loam Haplic Luvisol at the locality of Dolná Malanta (Slovakia) in 2014. Their effects were investigated after vegetation season of spring barley and spring wheat (once a month: from April to July) in 2014 and 2016, respectively. Experimental results indicate that the soil pHH2O in B0N0, B10N0, B20N0, B10N40, B20N40, B10N80 and B20N80 were 6.23, 6.45, 6.60, 6.77, 6.48, 6.36 and 6.60, respectively. The results of LSD test showed statistically significant differences between soil pH in control treatment and treatments with biochar and biochar with N fertilization. The most significant effect on increase of soil pH was observed in B10N40. During whole period, after application of biochar and biochar with N fertilization the values of pHKCl were gradually decreased in all treatments.

Opis:
Chemical fertilizer use is highly increasing in farming activity, and the process has a significant impact on soil quality and pH which is the measurement of the acidity or alkalinity. Therefore, soil pH is the main variable because it regulates plant nutrition availability by controlling the chemical forms of various nutrients in agricultural activity. This research aims to find out the excessive use of chemical fertilizers & dynamic soil pH on agricultural land. The primary data had collected by using questionnaires, interviews, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and soil testing. For the soil testing experiment, simple random sampling method was used to collect the sample in 11 agricultural continents using GPS technology to identify the land location and 22 soil samples were collected based on pre and post applied chemical fertilizer stage. In order to pH value were tested from the collected soil samples. Accordingly, the data were analyzed by ArcGIS 10.3 using the IDW technique. Therefore, the results find out the condition of soil quality during the pre-chemical fertilization, 9% of the land found to be slightly acidic, 27% of the land with neutral soil structure and 15% of the land with salinity soil structure. During the post-chemical fertilization, 9% of the land was found to be moderately acidic, 41% of the soil was found to be strongly acidic, 32% of the soil highly acidic and 18% of the land be moderately pH. The result of the study shown, chemical fertilizers use highly impact on soil quality and agricultural land productivity.

The alkalization of soil is a common phenomenon in forest ground nurseries. Liming, inadequate fertilization and the use of hard water for irrigation are the main reasons for this alkalization. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of fertilization with aluminium sulphate on soil pH, the activity of selected soil enzymes, efficiency as well as the growth parameters of pine seedlings. The study was conducted in a forest nursery, on a plot with soil pH 6.4 in water and 5.9 in 1 M KCl. Such a pH is not conducive to the production of conifer seedlings, particularly pines. Two different doses of aluminium sulphate fertilizer were applied: 740 kg ha-1 and 1110 kg ha-1. Both doses significantly reduced the soil pH, whereas soil enzyme activity did not change. The lower dose had a positive impact on the growth parameters of pine seedlings, while the higher dose led to their deterioration. We observed statistically significant differences in average primary and lateral root lengths, number of short roots, and thickness of the neck root of seedlings. One- and 2-year-old seedlings did not show symptoms of nutrient deficiency and neither did concentrations of the investigated macronutrients and selected micronutrients in needles indicate such. After applying the higher fertilizer dose, we observed a favourable change in the composition of mycorrhizae. Out of the potential seedling pathogens we found Cylindrocarpon spp., Fusarium spp., Phytophthora spp., Pythium spp. and Rhizoctonia solani of which the most frequent were Fusarium oxysporum, Pythium spp. and R. solani. Their occurrence frequency differed between the treatments used in this experiment. This study confirms the positive effects of a low aluminium dose on the performance and growth parameters of pine seedlings. However, on the basis of the conducted experiments, it is difficult to say, whether this positive effect is due to a direct action of aluminium on the seedlings or rather an indirect effect caused by lowering the soil pH, which in turn impacts on mycorrhizae composition and hence pathogen development.

Opis:
Cadmium is one of the toxic heavy metals which, getting in the nutrition chain through the soil-plant system, is capable of causing harm to human health. The objective of the trial was to study the effect of cadmium load in the soil-plant system. In pot experiments carried out under greenhouse conditions, effect of increasing Cd load on different crop plants (lettuce, maize) was studied. Literature data inform on the decisive role of soil reaction in mobility of cadmium in the soil. The answer was looked for the question of the effect of cadmium treatments at uniform rates on Cd uptake by plants on two soils quite different from each other in pH value. It may be concluded that increasing Cd load can result in the decrease of biomass production of maize and lettuce, but significant differences were obtained only on very acid SN soil. The concentration of Cd in plants increased on both soils as a consequence of growing Cd treatment rates. In corresponding treatments the Cd levels in lettuce and maize plants grown on very acid SE soil were several times higher than in case of plants on the KE soil. Obtained results confirm that Cd mobility on acid soil may be much higher what is clearly reflected in cadmium uptake by plants. On acid soils the cadmium uptake by plants is more intensive, therefore this toxic element is more likely to get in the nutrition chain. Considerable differences in Cd uptake can be detected among the plant species. On the same soil at the same rate of cadmium treatment. Cd level in lettuce plants was by several times higher than in maize. The lettuce plants can accumulate cadmium in the leaves at high concentrations without any visible symptoms. In the experiments no toxicity was observed on test plants.
