Opis:
This essay is an attempt to look at the existential phenomenon of being addicted from the perspective of speculative philosophy. The starting point is the description of Walter Benjamin’s narcotic experiences. Further in my considerations I am guided by the Kantian categories of the dialectics of pure reason, with particular emphasis on transcendental ideas. However, only the philosophy of G. W. F. Hegel along with the concepts of desire and habit allows us to comprehend addiction as a wild and unbridled desire for life, taken over by a dead scheme, by a mechanism, automatism. It is in this behavior, and only in it, that we constantly become aware of ourselves, lose ourselves to the specified objectification, obtain finite satisfaction, and repeat that deadness – this what addiction precisely is according to the Phenomenology of Spirit and the Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences. Hegel links it with an attitude of “stubborn subjectivity” that clings to the limits of its solipsistic finiteness, to the “bad infinity” and seeks satisfaction within its borders. In this way, the German philosopher links addictive behavior with the structure of dialectics itself.

Opis:
The paper gives an account of the origins of the term „analytic philosophy”. The term appeared in the paper Impressions and Appraisals of Analytic Philosophy in Europe by Ernest Nagel, published in 1936, and was subsequently employed by G. Bergmann, H. H. Price, and especially A. Pap. It has both descriptive and normative uses. In its descriptive use it refers to a certain movement in contemporary philosophy. In its normative use it stands for a proper way of doing philosophy, that is the way which provides us with carefully justified conclusions in clear language. Unfortunately, these two different uses are often conflated.

Opis:
It is a widely accepted trope that museums work for future generations. They often define themselves in relation to heritage: something of the past, which is celebrated in the present and securely preserved for the future. In doing so, museums cloak themselves in a shroud of respectability for appropriately thinking in short and long terms and bravely facing future challenges. But what kind of future is at stake in this imperative to secure a heritage for future generations? Taking on a deliberate speculative tone and a philosophical outlook, this essay attempts to address this question by suggesting that museums organize their work on the basis of three futures, entirely riveted to an economic understanding of temporality. Against these, the essay also proposes a fourth future that not only gives impetus to their existence, but also provides them with the only way out of the economic temporalities that govern their existence.

artykuł w książce: Literatura i kultura lat 60. XIX wieku między polityką a prywatnością. Dyslokacje, red. naukowa Urszula Kowalczuk, Damian Włodzimierz Makuch, Dawid Maria Osiński, Warszawa 2019.
The author of the article, using the example of Eleonora Ziemięcka, a philosopher popular in the 1840s, tries to show the mechanisms of forgetting about speculative and religious Polish thinkers of the inter-uprising period. In the fi rst part of the article, he compares posthumous memories that appeared in the press after Ziemięcka’s death in 1869, while in the second part he analyzes her works from the 1860s. In conclusion, he proves that even though she was immediately stereotyped as a conservative woman with anachronistic views, her late works show that she consistently tried to create a modern social and philosophical programme complementary to Positivism.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to examine the influence of the contemporary speculative philosophy on the neo-fantastic fiction (Le monde enfin by J.-P. Andrevon). The speculative philosophy presents the modern world as the source of cosmological horror for the human being. In my analysis, I focus on two anxiety-provoking motifs present both in speculative philosophy and Andrevon’s novel: the end of the anthropocentric world and the beginning of a new, inhuman world, dominated by nature.
Celem artykułu jest zbadanie wpływu współczesnej filozofii spekulatywnej na neofantastykę (Le Monde enfin J.-P. Andrevona).

Opis:
This article explores the relation between cinema and philosophy through the lens of interest shown by some filmmakers in the lives and works of philosophers. It begins by delving into contemporary perspectives on the relationship between philosophy and cinema. In order to assess how the constitutive dissimilarity of the two terms and the ways in which they can be brought together are at the origin of speculative short circuits and experiences of wonder, it brings together the works of thinkers – Cavell, Benjamin, and Kracauer; and filmmakers Rossellini, Montaldo, Keaton, and Jarman. Reflecting on the aesthetic and cultural impact of cinema is all the more important given the current omnipresence of images and prosthetic technologies that, with their incessant solicitations, threaten the processes of apprehension, learning, and conveying of knowledge. Thinking and perceiving differently thus becomes an essential function of cinema, one keenly performed in Safaa Fathy’s Derrida’s Elsewhere, analyzed in the last two sections.

Opis:
The theme of this paper is Leszek Nowak’s reconstruction and systematization of metaphilosophy of the negativistic unitarian metaphysics described in Being and Thought in four volumes, published in the years 1998, 2004, 2007, 2019. The goal of the article is to contribute to the discussion on the status of metaphilosophy. Metaphilosophy is understood here as a separate dimension of every philosophical conception determining, on the one hand, how we understand the realm of objects (what we postulate), on the other hand, how we choose methods for the construction of theories and ways to legitimize them. The author tries to show that Nowak’s metaphilosophy assumed in negativistic unitarian metaphysics meets exactly this definition of metaphilosophy.

Understanding dormant object : contributing to a fuller account of the entities implied in Graham Harman’s object-oriented ontology
Autorzy:
Dudek, Michał
Opis:
Although the idea of dormant or sleeping object explicitly appears in Graham Harman’s object-oriented ontology (OOO) writings, so far it has not been subjected to more careful analysis. This paper aims at filling this gap in secondary literature on OOO. It argues not only that is there no single unitary concept of dormancy in Harmanian relevant writings but also that there are ultimately three senses of dormant object that can be named: known non-knower, unknown knower and unknown non-knower. Moreover, the analysis of Harmanian dormancy, done in the paper after briefly reminding the relevant basics of OOO, provokes to wonder on the actual variety of different types of entities implied by Harman. Revealing them, in addition to the different types of dormant object, not only has systematising and clarifying value for OOO but also poses some problems for it, which are suggested at the paper’s end.
