Opis:: The article discusses the relevance of the ideas of Professor Stanis³aw Gajda for the modern theory of speech genres. The speech genre classifications by Gajda have been analyzed, as well as the evolution of his concepts and views, such as the concept of “humanistic style” and national-historical dimension of style and genre. The relevance of the ideas by Gajda for the modern study on secondary speech genres is due to signi ficant changes in communicative speech space of Eastern Europe, the emergence of a number of new areas of “technologically mediated” communication, IT-technologies.

Opis:: Introduced by Mikhail Bakhtin, the notion of ‘speech genres’ (Bachtin 1979) is fundamental to discourse studies. It enables to describe messages from various fields within a uniform methodology, and discover (inter)dependencies between literary works and the repertoire of genres used in other areas of communication, whilst also providing tools for comparison of the repertoire of forms of speech used in various cultures. The article outlines the main threads of the research done in Poland in reference to the Bakhtin concept. The most essential accomplishments include: (i) a description of numerous speech genres which reveals the dissimilarities of their modal confines, proposed by Anna Wierzbicka (Wierzbicka 1983), subsequently taken advantage of in the ethnolinguistic studies by this author; (ii) numerous elaborations on individual genres and their repertoire as used in various fields of discourse (primarily, studies by the scholars based in Katowice, Opole, and Lublin); and, (iii) analysis of the content of the notions of ‘primary genres’ and ‘secondary genres’ and of genre contaminations (Dobrzyńska 1992).

Opis:: The article substantiates the distinction of professional journalistic language as a variant of langue representing journalistic style, and implemented in three groups of speech genres – informing, estimating and stimulating. Alongside stylistic features common with journalistic macrostyle, this professional language has its own specific characteristics, expressed through faithfulness to the facts, social estimation and administrative stimulation. Stylistic analysis of even only one genre – stimulating – reveals that the professional and linguistic activities of journalists can be analysed as typical execution algorithms, using the aforementioned method. The article demonstrates that the proposed analysis of speech representations in professional language can be productive for the study of language in action in the journalistic sphere of communication.

Opis:: The article contains considerations on Marek Bieńczyk’s literary output and his book Kontener, published in 2018. All essays from the volume manifest their autobiographical and literary character. The main aim of the paper is to make a diagnosis connected with the particular and common (mis)understanding of the relations between death and life, mourning and vitality, melancholy and literature. This objective is accomplished through essay strategies. In texts that are part of Kontener, the suggestive and expressive subject makes continual new inquiries in order to find the essence of their (Bieńczyk’s) personal, and especially textual, identity.

Opis:: Based on the integrative concept of style, developed in the works of Professor Stanis³aw Gajda, the article justifies the allocation of prosecutorial professional style as a speech variety of business style, which is realized in a system of prescribing, requesting and informing genres. Analysis of the internal differentiation of the Russian prosecutors’ professional style shows that, along with stylistic features that are common to business macro style, this professional style has specific traits – legal evaluation and contrary relations of semantic positions, – which are expressed in each speech genre in a different way. Stylistical and speech analysis of these two genre models shows that typical algorithms of prosecutors’ professional speech activity are reflected in the models. The study shows that the professional style of prosecutors represents one of the types of speech activities in the legal field.

Opis:: This paper presents and discusses two main theses. Firstly, the author claims that, contrary to what is commonly thought, neither the subject matter nor the meaning of Kazimierz Wierzyński’s later poems diff er significantly from the topics taken up in his debut volumes. The poet never lost his youthful faith in the order of the world, nor did he quench his admiration for the work of creation. It is the main and essential feature of his poetry. Secondly, an important element of Wierzyński’s poems, which reveals itself in various forms and shapes, is prayer. This form of expression is referenced directly in many titles and often functions as the central theme of the poems. Moreover, many of Wierzyński’s works represent exactly this speech genre. His volumes contain poetic prayers differing thematically and functionally, for all seasons and all times of a day, for various holidays, celebrations, and other occasions. The poetry by Kazimierz Wierzyński is in fact one big prayer of supplication, humility, delight, and thanksgivings.

Opis:: The article deals with the problem of genological classifi cation of texts with diverse properties. Source material was drawn from contemporary history lectures. The analyzed texts were found to include, next to prevailing monolog passages, also question-and-dialog utterances. Hence it is postulated that genological classifi cation take into account really existing properties in texts to reflect their actual scalarity (gradability), rather than opposition.

Opis:: The article is devoted to researching cultures through a communicative ideal or absolute communicative value that covers the culture's basic communication rules shared by all speakers. This absolute ideal determines the concept of 'good' and 'bad' speech and is invariably considered when any language or speech unit is used. The intentional structure, themes and style of the communicative ideal cover all types, forms and genres of phatic and non-phatic communication. Communicative ideal also determines the poetics of human communication within this culture. It's possible to discover a communicative ideal through the language idioms which are formed by lexical units of the language naming the key value concepts of this culture. Good material can also be gained from various reflexives or metalanguage comments, phrases about the language and speech which belong to various spheres and types of communication. It may also be valuable to study the characters of national (Russian, English, Polish) literature who may be viewed as the models of the ideal communicative partners within these cultures. The article discusses the probability of experimental study of a communicative ideal. It is also important that a communicative ideal occupies a significant place in the system of statements about the types of the national cultures which are formulated in a semantic primitive language. Thus, communicative ideal is formed by values described in a semantic primitive language through simple affirmative formulas: 'It's good if...'. Communicative ideal as a rule is rather simple and clear for every speaker and is usually not an object of description and discussion. This mainly differentiates the communicative ideal from various communicative scenarios. However, a communicative ideal can also vary, at least, in some cultures. The typology of communicative concepts and values based on the field model where the centre corresponds with the communicative ideal and the periphery - particular communicative scenarios, enables to learn different types of communicative concepts variation for the centre and periphery.

Opis:: The goal of this thesis for master’s degree is to provide a linguistic analysis of COMPLAINING (narzekanie) in the Polish language, that would augment the already existing research on this topic but conducted from a psychologic point of view. The first chapter includes reflections on COMPLAINING as a Polish cultural norm and a popular communication ritual that serves predominantly a phatic function. Because of that, COMPLAINING should be included in programs of teaching Polish as a foreign language. The second chapter is devoted to the analysis of COMPLAINING through the lens of the speech act theory and the prototype theory. The latter allows to explain the differences between speech act of COMPLAINING and speech acts that serve a similar purpose of expressing dissatisfaction. The third chapter includes characterization of COMPLAINING as a speech genre, conducted using a methodology developed by Jerzy Bartmiński, which dictates focus on such qualities as communication situation, sender, receiver, communication intention, topic, modality, form and frame. This allows to fashion a definition of COMPLAINING, which, in contrast to other definitions, is more focused on its communication aspects.
Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest językoznawcza analiza NARZEKANIA, uzupełniającego badania prowadzone w tym zakresie z perspektywy psychologicznej, mająca potencjalnie także implikacje dydaktyczne w zakresie nauczania języka polskiego jako obcego. Prezentując kulturowe korzenie NARZEKANIA pokazuję, że czynność ta jest nie tylko elementem autostereotypu Polaka, ale wpisuje się także w polską normę kulturową, stanowi rytuał porozumiewania się i popularne narzędzie realizacji funkcji fatycznej. W związku z tym warto zwrócić uwagę na rozwijanie umiejętności NARZEKANIA w dydaktyce języka polskiego jako obcego. Rozważania zawarte w rozdziale drugim mają na celu zaprezentowanie NARZEKANIA w świetle teorii aktów mowy. Dążyłem jednocześnie do pokazania, że opisanie go przy pomocy parametrów klasyfikacji J. Searle’a nastręcza pewnych problemów, podobnie jak znalezienie wyczerpującej definicji NARZEKANIA, która wyjaśniałaby zależności między nim, a innymi aktami mowy komunikującymi niezadowolenie, takimi jak ŻALENIE SIĘ, SKARŻENIE SIĘ, KRYTYKOWANIE. Niezwykle pomocne w rozwianiu tych wątpliwości są narzędzia oferowane przez językoznawstwo kognitywne, a zwłaszcza klasyfikacja prototypowa. Rozdział trzeci przynosi omówienie NARZEKANIA w świetle genologii. Prezentuję analizę podstawy onomazjologicznej nazwy badanego gatunku mowy z uwzględnieniem etymologii, pokazując, jak głęboko wpisane w jego istotę jest wyrażanie negatywnych stanów emocjonalnych oraz modalność negatywna. Następnie prezentuję schematy konotacyjne mówienia i komunikowania czasownika NARZEKAĆ. Ostatni etap analizy zakładał opis gatunku mowy NARZEKANIA przez pryzmat ośmiu parametrów: sytuacji komunikacyjnej, nadawcy, odbiorcy, intencji komunikacyjnej, tematu (przedmiotu), ontologii świata przedstawionego, formy, sposobu ujęcia. Efektem jest opracowanie autorskiej definicji tego gatunku mowy.
