Opis:: This study sought to evaluate the effect of speech intensity on performance of the Callsign Acquisition Test (CAT) and Modified Rhyme Test (MRT) presented in noise. Fourteen normally hearing listeners performed both tests in 65 dB A white background noise. Speech intensity varied while background noise remained constant to form speech-to-noise ratios (SNRs) of -18, -15, -12, -9, and -6 dB. Results showed that CAT recognition scores were significantly higher than MRT scores at the same SNRs; how- ever, the scores from both tests were highly correlated and their relationship for the SNRs tested can be expressed by a simple linear function. The concept of CAT can be easily ported to other languages for testing speech communication under adverse listening conditions

Intensywność, nierozerwalnie złączona z doświadczeniem mistycznym, jest obecna w dyskursie mistycznym i stanowi odniesienie znaku językowego. Specyfika tego znaku w dyskursie mistyków katolickich badana jest od początku XX wieku. W tym kontekście zostaną poddane analizie wyrażenia gradacyjne stopnia absolutnego za pomocą stopnia najwyższego przymiotników oraz przymiotników z prefiksami o znaczeniu „poza” granice danej skali wartości. Analiza dotyczy przykładów z tekstu oryginalnego (język polski) i tekstu tłumaczonego (język francuski), aby pokazać trudności mistyka w wyrażeniu swego doświadczenia mistycznego oraz trudności tłumacza, który stara się oddać w tłumaczonym tekście wzruszenia i piękno języka mistyka. Les expressions de la gradation absolue dans Dzienniczek (Petit Journal) de la sœur Faustine et leurs traductions en français Quelles sont les expressions de la gradation absolue dans un discours mystique et comment les traduire? Pour répondre à cette question, nous allons d’abord donner la définition de la gradation qui englobe la comparaison implicite et l’intensité. L’intensité s’avère être inséparable de l’expérience mystique, par conséquent le discours des mystiques est marqué par les expressions de l’intensité. Pour saisir la spécificité du signe linguistique dans un discours mystique catholique, étudié dès le début du XXe siècle, nous présenterons l’expérience mystique qui constitue une référence spécifique du signe linguistique. C’est dans ce cadre que nous analyserons les expressions de la gradation absolue par le superlatif des adjectifs et par les adjectifs avec des préfixes marquant un « au-delà » des bornes d’une échelle des valeurs. L’analyse sera menée sur les exemples du texte original et du texte traduit afin de montrer les difficultés du mystique pour exprimer son expérience mystique et les difficultés du traducteur qui s’efforce de rendre dans le texte traduit l’émotion et la beauté du langage du mystique.
What are expressions of absolute gradation in the mystical speech and how should they be translated? To answer this question, we will first give the definition of gradation that includes implicit comparison and intensity. As intensity is inseparable from mystical experience, it also marks the mystical speech. To grasp the specificity of the linguistic sign in a mystical catholic speech we will present the mystical experience which is a precise reference to the linguistic sign. It is in this context that we will analyze the expressions of absolute gradation, namely the superlative forms of adjectives and adjectives with prefixes marking a “beyond” of the boundaries of a scale of values. The analysis will be conducted on the examples of the original text and of the translated text in order to show difficulties of a mystic in expressing his/her mystical experience and the difficulties of the translator trying to render the emotion and the beauty of the mystical language.

Opis:: The study of inner speech is appropriate to carry out in the plane of interaction of various scientific studies. This approach allows us to analyze the specifics of functioning of inner speech at the level of artistic discourse. Such phenomenon as inner speech presents not only the protagonist's outlook, their emotional state or social aspects, but also demonstrates, under the influence of extraordinary factors, the intensity of affect expression in the addresser's speech activity. Inner speech in an emotive situation is marked by peculiar characteristics, which indicates its unique multidimensional essence.

Opis:: This paper reports on preliminary experiments aimed at standardizing speech intelligibility of military Callsign Acquisition Test (CAT) using average power levels of callsign items measured by the Root Mean Square (RMS) and maximum power levels of callsign items (Peak). The results obtained indicate that at a minimum sound pressure level (SPL) of 10.57 dBHL, the CAT tests were more difficult than NU-6 (Northwestern University, Auditory Test No. 6) and CID-W22 (Central Institute for the Deaf, Test W-22). At the maximum SPL values, the CAT tests reveal more intelligibility than NU-6 and CID-W22. The CAT-Peak test attained 95% intelligibility as NU-6 at 27.5 dBHL, and with CID-W22, 92.4% intelligibility at 27 dBHL. The CAT-RMS achieved 90% intelligibility when compared with NU-6, and 87% intelligibility score when compared with CID-W22; all at 24 dBHL.

Opis:: W artykule została omówiona przydatność funkcji latencja-natężenie w odpowiedziach ABR w diagnostyce słuchu u pacjentów z zespołem Downa. Celowość zastosowanie odmiennych parametrów FLN (funkcja latencja-natężenie) w przypadku zespołu Downa w diagnostyce różnicowej zaburzeń słuchu ma istotne znaczenie. Wyniki badań w niniejszej pracy pokazały, że nachylenie FLN u osób z ZD (Zespół Downa) jest inne niż w grupie kontrolnej, w związku z tym do diagnostyki różnicowej zaburzeń słuchu w ZD, konieczne jest stosowanie FLN dla osób z ZD, a nie dla osób w normie słuchowej bez ZD. Zaburzenia słuchu w przypadku osób z zespołem Downa wpływają istotnie na rozwój kompetencji językowych, komunikacyjnych i społecznych, dlatego tak ważna jest wczesna diagnostyka audiologiczna, wyposażenie w protezy słuchowe i opieka logopedyczna z uwzględnieniem treningu słuchowego u dzieci z zespołem Downa.
The article discusses the usefulness of the latency-intensity function in ABR responses in the diagnosis of hearing in patients with Down’s syndrome. It is expedient to use different FLN parameters (latency-intensity function) in the case of Down syndrome in the differential diagnosis of hearing disorders. The results of the research in this study showed that the FLN slope in people with DS (Down’s syndrome) is different than in the control group, therefore, for the differential diagnosis of hearing disorders in DS, it is necessary to use FLN for people with DS and not for people with DS. auditory norm without DS. Hearing disorders in people with Down syndrome significantly affect the development of linguistic, communicative and social competences, which is why early audiological diagnostics, equipment with hearing prostheses and speech therapy, including auditory training in children with Down syndrome, are so important.
