Opis:
We propose and numerically investigate a directional coupler which consists of two dielectric loaded InSb based terahertz (THz) plasmonic waveguides. Owing to the permittivitly tunable property of InSb, the coupling strength between the two dielectric loaded plasmonic waveguides is affected by temperature, so the maximum power coupled from the input waveguide to the cross-waveguide and the correspondingly coupling length could be effectively tailored by altering temperature. Under different temperatures, this directional coupler could act as a thermally controlled terahertz wave switch or a 3-dB terahertz splitter around the frequency of 1.17 THz. This ultracompact and thermally controlled plasmonic directional coupler may find potential important applications in the highly integrated photonic circuits for terahertz system and technologies.

Opis:
In this paper, a theoretical design of a novel passive optical line protection device for fiber to the home networks is presented and discussed. Such a device has been designed to overcome several issues of the conventional optical line protection which is based on a switching mechanism controlled electronically. The proposed design is suitable for multiplexed passive optical networks, especially, the dense wavelength division multiplexing technology. This unit is installed at both ends of the network and is composed of a 1×2 splitter to deliver the transmitted multiplexed signal to 2 optical paths and a 2×1 (99.9/0.1) coupler allowing an automatic control when a problem appears. Two optical line protection units exchange optical data through 2 dual fibers. In the case where the primary link suffers from a transmission problem, it automatically switches without any electronic control whatsoever to the backup link through a passive (99.9/0.1) coupler with an average total loss estimated to be of 3.2 dB.

Opis:
The hydrodynamic pattern, which surrounds the pier near a splitter that has T-shape, is investigated by adopting a numerical method and using ANSYS Fluent Software to achieve computation. The essential objective of this paper refers to revealing the behavior of the hydrodynamic field around the pier due to the existence of the upstream splitter plate. The T-splitter plate has not been used in previous works for controlling the flow field around the cylinder body. The main assumptions adopted in solving the hydrodynamic problem are incompressible, steady, and laminar flow. Reynolds number values are taken from 40 to 200 to guarantee laminar flow with laminar vortex street. The numerical investigation focuses on two main variables. These variables are the horizontal distance between the rear portion of a splitter and the pier center and bubble length. The numerical study comprises pressure contours, water velocity contours, and streamlines. Results reveal that bubbles are generated and developed due to the existence of the splitter. Four bubbles are generated, two of them are formed in the region between the splitter rear portion and pier leading portion and the other two bubbles are formed at the cylindrical pier wake region. The size and length of these four bubbles are dominated by the Reynolds number, these bubbles are non-symmetrical. It is revealed from the solution that with the rise in Reynolds number values then the disturbance will be increased simultaneously. The horizontal distance dominates the hydraulic response, which is described by the streamlines, pressure contours, and water flow contours. Furthermore, the Reynolds number has a significant influence on the pressure contours, water flow contours, and streamlines. Finally, a correlation equation is derived relying on bubble length, horizontal distance, and Reynolds number.

Opis:
In this paper, a fused-silica transmission grating used as a three-port beam splitter is designed by using the rigorous coupled-wave analysis, which is based on the sandwiched grating structure at the wavelength of 800 nm under normal incidence. Firstly, it is feasible to realize such a grating with the prescribed grating duty cycle and grating period. Next, high efficiency can be also achieved for both TE and TM polarizations. Moreover, the aspect ratio of the grating depth to the ridge width can be improved, which is significant for practical applications. At last, the three-port beam splitter is designed with a covering layer on the surface, which can extend its life service.

Opis:
The present analysis focuses on the investigation of the two-dimensional flow passing a bridge pier nearby a splitter plate in different regimes of a laminar flow. The splitter plate is T-shaped and two different cases have been studied based on the form of the splitter plate relative to the bridge pier. The analysis is implemented for steady and incompressible water flow in an open channel. The current study deals with velocity vectors, drag coefficients, lift coefficients, and skin friction. The analysis of the velocity vector gave a good indicator about the separation process and dissipation, which occurs at the splitter plate before the occurrence of these processes at the front face of the pier, especially the flow separation process. Moreover, the velocity vector gave a good image about the flow direction at two regions, the first region is located between the rear portion of the splitter plate and the frontal face of the pier, while the second region is the wake region, which is located at the downstream of the pier. Negative drag coefficient, lift coefficient, and skin friction coefficient values are obtained from the analysis. This happens due to the existence of the splitter plate that leads to the reduction of these values.

Opis:
In this paper, a novel double-layer three-port grating is described. The incident grating structure is in the second-order Littrow configuration. The grating region is composed of fused silica and Ta2O5.The designed grating beam splitter has high efficiency under TE polarization and TM polarization, respectively. The efficiency of two polarizations is more than 90%. In addition, compared with a single-layer three-port grating, this new beam splitter has good fabrication tolerance and incident bandwidth. Therefore, the optimized structure has a good application value.

The objective of this research is to study the effects of feed particle size, splitter angle, and washing process on Fe2O3 removal efficiency in the separation of ferrous impurities from halloysite ore by dry magnetic separation in order to increase the purity of halloysite sample after crushing and blunging processes separately. Firstly, after crushing ore in a jaw crusher and sizing to -2+1 mm, -1+0.5 mm, and -0.5+0.212 mm fractions, the sized materials were fed to REMS-type dry magnetic separator at a constant belt speed of 300 rpm with the splitter angles of 0, 15, 30º separately. Maximum Fe2O3 removal efficiency (FRE) (97.1%) was obtained in the nonmagnetic product at -0.5+0.212 mm size fraction and 0º splitter angle. The minimum Fe2O3 content (1.3%) was reached in the nonmagnetic product obtained in the experiment with the feed size of -2+1 mm and a splitter angle of 0º. Secondly, dry magnetic separation was applied to the washed -2+0.212 mm size fraction after drying at room temperature to evaluate the coarse particle-sized halloysite ore that was gained by mechanical dispersion in the aqueous medium towards sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP), while a significant part of the clay minerals went into fine size after the dispersion process. In the experiment performed with a 0º splitter angle after washing, it was determined that halloysite concentrate of 0.4% Fe2O3 content could be obtained with 98.8% Fe2O3 removal efficiency. As a result of dry magnetic separation experiments, it was seen that Fe2O3 removal efficiency decreased as the splitter angle increased, while Fe2O3 content in magnetic and nonmagnetic products increased. It was determined that washing and cleaning of finesized minerals plastered on particle surfaces after mechanical dispersion and particle release of minerals with different magnetic properties increased the dry magnetic separation efficiency, and nonmagnetic products with very low Fe2O3 (0.4%) and high Al2O3 (31.9%) content was obtained. The blunging process in the presence of dispersant caused the dispersion of clay minerals and allowed to liberating of the ferrous minerals from the halloysite ore, hence the increase in the FRE for the magnetic separation.

We describe a polarization-selective beam splitter by a sandwiched grating, which can fulfill the high efficiency element for TE polarization and the two-port output for TM polarization. The modal method and the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) are employed together to optimize the polarization-selective beam splitter. According to the modal method, the grating duty cycle and period are discussed to analyze the physical mechanism of such a dual-function element. Using RCWA, grating depth and thickness of the covering layer are accurately optimized to design such a polarization-selective beam splitter. With the optimized grating duty cycle, period, depth and covering layer thickness, TE polarization can be mainly diffracted in the –1st order and two-port output can be achieved for TM polarization in the 0th and the –1st orders. The polarization-selective beam splitter should be a useful element in a variety of applications with advantages of high efficiency, wideband property, and dual functions based on a sandwich grating.

In this paper, a composite manufacturing method was proposed to reduce the inner surface roughness of silica groove. Firstly, femtosecond laser was used to ablate the silica groove, then, a 5% concentration hydrofluoric acid solution was used to corrode the inner surface of silica groove. Secondly, Su8 adhesive was filled with the groove to form a semi-buried 1×32 optical splitter by doctor blade. The test results showed that the surface roughness Ra was less than 0.2 μm, and average insertion loss of output ports was 21.34 dB, moreover, the uniformity was less than 1.44 dB. Compared with the traditional femtosecond laser ablating method, surface roughness reduced by at least 0.1 μm, and the average insertion loss of output ports was reduced by 1.22 dB, and the uniformity was reduced by 0.41 dB. So, the composite manufacturing method improved the communication performance. It is satisfied with the requirements for optical interconnection in the electro-optical printed circuit boards.

In this study, a polarization selective beam splitter constructed by only a single layer subwavelength multisubpart profile grating is presented. Rigorous coupled-wave analysis is adopted to investigate the properties of the structure. It is shown that for a transverse electric polarized wave, the device demonstrates very high reflectivity (>97%) from 1.46 to 1.58 μm; and for a transverse magnetic polarized wave, at the wavelength of 1.55 μm, it exhibits about 50/50 beam ratio under normal incidence. To evaluate the response of the polarizing beam splitters under variation in structure parameters, we also investigated the fabrication tolerances of the device.
