Opis:: Od momentu publikacji w 2009 r. raportu Narodowej Rady Badań dla Departamentu Sprawiedliwości Stanów Zjednoczonych (Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward) trwa ogólnoświatowa dyskusja na temat naukowości badań daktyloskopijnych, która nie ominęła również Polski. Podejście do badań daktyloskopijnych w USA i w Polsce jest jednak całkowicie inne – w pierwszym przypadku stosowany jest standard holistyczny, oparty wyłącznie na doświadczeniu i przekonaniu eksperta, w drugim – standard numeryczny określający ściśle minimalną liczbę cech szczególnych wymaganą do identyfikacji. Oba standardy mają swoje zalety, ale i znaczące wady. Wyjściem z sytuacji byłoby znalezienie rozwiązania łączącego podejście holistyczne i numeryczne, do czego niewielki wkład może wnieść projekt „Mapowanie odbitek linii papilarnych”, realizowany przez biegłych Zakładu Daktyloskopii Centralnego Laboratorium Kryminalistycznego Policji.
Since the publication of the National Research Council Report titled: Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward for the United States Department of Justice, there has been an international discussion on scientific character of fingerprint examination, and Poland has not been excluded from it. The approaches to fingerprint identification in the United States of America and Poland are completely different. In the first case, the holistic standard is used basing exclusively on the experience and conviction of the expert, and in the other one, numerical standard precisely determining the minimum number of consistent individual characteristics (minutiae) required for identification. Both standards have both advantages and significant drawbacks. A good way out of this situation would be finding a solution combing the holistic and numerical approaches and the project “Mapping of friction skin ridges impressions” implemented by the forensic experts of Fingerprint Examination Department in the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police makes constitutes contribution to that.

Opis:: The Unicode standard is designed as a framework for the worldwide interchange and processing of documents written in various languages and from various technical disciplines. The Unicode standard, however, does not define glyph images and neglects typography. Nevertheless, it has been adapted as the de facto standard in topography. The advantages of such a universal standard are obvious, but its objectives result in serious drawbacks in typographical applications. Therefore our conclusion is that it will be advisable to explore alternative solutions.

Opis:: W artykule dokonano przeglądu literaturowego formalnych metod reprezentacji wiedzy w postaci ontologii ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem standardów RDF oraz OWL. Wskazano następnie obszar wiedzy dziedzinowej z zakresu prawidłowo realizowanych procedur serwisowych. Zaproponowano również sposób reprezentacji tej wiedzy jako szeregów kroków, opisywanych przez obsługiwane podzespoły, wykorzystane do tego narzędzia, elementy łączące i mocujące czy też materiały eksploatacyjne. Bazując na tych założeniach zaproponowano budowę ontologii przy wykorzystaniu języka OWL, wykorzystując w tym celu środowisko Protégé.
This article reviews literature on formal knowledge representation methods using ontologies and focus on RDF and OWL standards. Then indicated the area of domain knowledge in the range of correctly performed service procedures. It was proposed to represent this knowledge as a series of steps. These steps are described by the supported components, the tools which are used, connecting elements and consumables. Based on these assumptions, it was proposed to build ontology using OWL using the Protégé environment.

Opis:: The most commonly used Lower and Middle Devonian conodont zonations that some times have been presented as standard zonations are evaluated. The author questions whether the Frasnian standard conodont zonation based on a phylogenetic succession of species belonging to the pelagicgenera Mesotaxis, Palmatolepis and Siphonodella can be used for world wide correlation. He fa vours the idea of an in ter national cono dont ref er ence scale based on a syn the sis of well established and documented conodont successions (with figured specimens of first and last occurrences of index-species) from key areas representing a variety of facies. Graphic correlation is likely to be the most objective and precise method to provide such a synthesis represented by the composite standard. Such standards have been allready elaborated for the Frasnian and the Middle Devonian. This point of view does not imply that classical biozonations should be abandoned.

Opis:: The latest data on the chronostratigraphic standard for the Cambrian System, being the effect of the activities of the International Subcommission on the Cambrian System in the recent years, are presented. The most important change in the Cambrian stratigraphic scheme is its sub-division into four series and corresponding epochs of comparable duration. Difficulties that appear in the definition and selection of the stratotypes of particular Cambrian stages are also discussed.

Opis:: Przeprowadzono analizę porównawczą standardów kodowania MPEG-2 i H.264/AVC z punktu widzenia liczby programów telewizyjnych w multipleksie. Na podstawie dostępnych dokumentów normalizacyjnych i wyników badań przedstawiono właściwości standardu MPEG-2, MPEG-4 oraz H.264/AVC, a także zakresy ich stosowania i dostępność sprzętu. Stwierdzono, że standard H.264/AVC, umożliwiający przesłanie w multipleksie dwukrotnie większej liczby programów niż standard MPEG-2, jest standardem przyszłościowym i ma coraz szersze zastosowanie. Celowe jest więc wprowadzenie jego próbnych emisji w Polsce.
Comparative analysis of coding standards MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC in terms of multiplexed programs number was made. On the base of standards deliverable and tests results, the performance of standards MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC was presented as well as their application scope and equipment accessibility. It was find that standard H.264/AVC, which gives the possibility of transmission in multiplexer two times more programs number than standard MPEG-2 can, is the future standard and has more and more wide application. Therefore, it is purposeful to start experimental emission of it in Poland.

Opis:: The paper is a work in progress investigating the perceptions of Standard English expressed by a group of children in their last year of primary school in a multicultural and multilingual educational setting in London. The theoretical framework employed to interpret the data, a series of group interviews with small groups, is that of language ideology. The idea brought forward in the paper is that language ideology is a habitus (Bourdieu, 1991) which attaches certain values to the prestige variety of a language, while devaluing non-standard varieties. Through the adoption of this theoretical lens, the paper attempts to evaluate the educational implications of this ideology.

Opis:: Článek pracuje s pojmy hovorová, běžně mluvená a obecná čeština. Podrobněji se zabývá pojmem spisovná čeština a její norma, což je východiskem při hodnocení slov z hlediska spisovnosti a nespisovnosti. Příspěvek kritizuje širokou definici i užívání kvalifikátoru kolokviální, který se používá pro jednotky mluveného neformálního jazyka v článku P. Kochové a Z. Opavské při přípravě Akademického slovníku současné češtiny. Místo takto vymezeného kvalifikátoru kolokviální se navrhuje na konkrétním materiálu (univerbizáty, slova cizího původu, nové významy) užívat jednak kvalifikátoru nespisovný, jednak nově úžeji vymezeného kvalifikátoru kolokviální, který odpovídá kvalifikátoru hovorový (spisovný) v dosavadních slovnících. Článek dochází k závěru, že pojetí P. Kochové a Z. Opavské by narušilo integritu spisovné češtiny, protože by se s jejich široce vymezeným kvalifikátorem kolokviální do spisovné češtiny dostala nespisovná slova.
The article deals with the concepts of colloquial-standard Czech, everyday Czech and common Czech. The concept of the standard Czech and its norm is analysed in more detail; this analysis is used also as a starting point for the evaluation of words from the point of view of their (non-)standardness. The paper criticises the broad definition and use of the qualifier kolokviální, used for the units of the spoken informal language in the article by P. Kochová and Z. Opavská devoted to the preparation of the Academic Dictionary of the Contemporary Czech. Instead of the qualifier colloquial delimited in this way, the author proposes – on the data of univerbation units, loanwords and new meanings – to use both the qualifier non-standard and the newly more narrowly delimited qualifier colloquial, which would correspond to the qualifier colloquial-standard in the existing dictionaries. The article arrives to the conclusion that the conception of P. Kochová and Z. Opavská would disrupt the integrity of the standard Czech, because with their broadly delimited qualifier colloquial non-standard words would enter into the standard Czech.
