Opis:: The article analyses crimes against peace, crimes against humanity and war crimes from the perspective of the construction of a terrorist offence under Article 115(20) of the Polish Penal Code. The author discusses the concept of state terrorism in social sciences, such as criminology and political science, and points out the controversies surrounding this concept. This is followed by an analysis of the terrorist offence in the Criminal Code and the arguments supporting the view that the offences in Chapter XVI of the Criminal Code can be regarded as fulfilling the conditions of a terrorist offence. Such a solution implies the application to the perpetrators of such offences of stricter rules for the imposition of punishment and probation measures in accordance with the provisions of Article 65(1) of the Criminal Code.

Opis:: The aim of this paper is to present and assess Britain’s attitude towards Libya’s state terrorism in the 1980s. It presents the circumstances of involvement of Libyan authorities in the acts of terror, as well as the reasons for directing such activity against the United Kingdom. The paper discusses the response of the British authorities to the Libyan-backed terrorist activity and the results of investigations into attacks perpetrated by Libyans against British citizens. The main thesis of the paper is the statement that the politics of Great Britain in reaction for support offered by Muammar Gaddafi’s regime to the international terrorist network was formulated in line with the main directions of US policy towards Libya.

Opis:: This paper argues that Mario Vargas Llosa’s novel The Feast of the Goat (2000) uses the images of the bodies of three of its characters (Urania Cabral, Trujillo and Agustín Cabral) to represent the mechanisms of state terrorism at the time of Trujillo’s dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. It is a traumatizing system, which leaves somatic marks in all the actors involved. We analyze the manners in which the Peruvian author uses the images of protagonists’ organic processes to sketch the psychical, emotional and ideological processes and states, linked to or generated by the policies of intimidation.

In light of the existing threat posed by IS, and its expected proliferation in the foreseeable future, discussions on means to combat this phenomenon should attract more attention on academic, political, and social levels, with the hope of finding a comprehensive long-lasting remedy for this highly contagious plague.

Wpływ Państwa Islamskiego na rozwój terroryzmu w Europie w latach 2014-2016

Opis:: Terrorism has been presented in human history almost from the beginning. In the past it was a problem for just one country, nowadays it is an international issue. Most of the terrorist attacks have a religious background. They are a defense of religion, "convert" the unbelievers or raising them in fear. The most recognized terrorist group is the Islamic State. Using the migration crisis in Europe, many Allaah militants came to the rescue, ready to kill innocent people and recruit young people who want to work under the ISIS banner. In the presented thesis, attention was drawn to the problem that was caused by reckless European Union’s migration policy and how it affects on the situation in Europe and to the ways of Islamic State soldiers are expanding terrorism in Europe. The thesis is presenting also differences which appear in the definition of terrorism and how this definition divided factors of motivation for being a terrorist. It also includes the history of the Islamic State’s uprising, including US warfare in Iraq. It also describes the transformation of this terrorist organization and the internal structure of it. The paper ends with the analysis of countries which are most likely to be acquired by the followers of Allah.The thesis emphasized social media role in promoting activities of soldiers (especially films to warm up the image or to arouse even greater fear). It also includes the analysis of terrorist attacks in Europe in years 2014-2016. The author did not forget to mention the fact of growing number of national organizations members which are more and more this days due to a number of aggressive immigrants from East.
Terroryzm towarzyszy ludzkości od zarania dziejów. Niegdyś ze zjawiskiem terroryzmu borykały się pojedyncze państwa, aktualnie problem ten urósł do rangi zagrożenia dla bezpieczeństwa międzynarodowego. Większość ataków terrorystycznych motywowane jest pobudkami religijnymi; przede wszystkim walką w obronie religii bądź chęcią „nawracania” niewiernych, budząc w nich strach. Najbardziej znanym ugrupowaniem terrorystycznym jest Państwo Islamskie. Wykorzystując kryzys migracyjny na teren Europy przybyło wielu bojowników Allaha, którzy gotowi są do tego by mordować niewinnych oraz rekrutować młodych ludzi, chcących działać pod szyldem ISIS. W przedstawionej pracy licencjackiej zwrócono uwagę na problem jaki wyniknął z powodu nieprzemyślanej polityki migracyjnej Unii Europejskiej oraz na to w jaki sposób bojownicy Państwa Islamskiego wpływają na rozwój terroryzmu w Europie. Opisano w niej różnice występujące w definicji terroryzmu oraz podział, który można wyodrębnić za pomocą czynników, które motywują ludzi do działań na tle terrorystycznym. Przedstawiono także historię powstania Państwa Islamskiego, z uwzględnieniem interwencji Stanów Zjednoczonych na Irak, która stała się idealnym pretekstem do tego by tworzyć bojówki do walki z Zachodem. Przedstawiono także transformację jaką przeszło to ugrupowanie oraz jaka jest struktura wewnętrzna Państwa Islamskiego. W pracy podkreślono rolę mediów społecznościowych w promowaniu działalności bojowników oraz to w jaki sposób wykorzystują tworzenie filmów do ocieplenia swojego wizerunku bądź wzbudzania jeszcze większego strachu. Dokonano w niej analizy zamachów terrorystycznych, które miały miejsce w latach 2014-2016. Podkreślono również wzrost członków partii narodowościowych, których z każdym dniem przybywa z powodu wzrastającej niechęci do agresywnych imigrantów z Bliskiego Wschodu.

Opis:: The text elaborates on the role of Argentinean human rights organization Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo in constructing social memory and in imparting information about crimes of state terrorism and military dictatorship in Argentina in 1976-1983. Assuming that the memory about disappeared victims of military dictatorship and about crimes of state terrorism is the basis for constructing principles and activities of social movement of Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo (Las Madres de Plaza de Mayo), it was acknowledged that presenting the subject matter would require defining the concept of social memory, revealing functions of the past in the present and explaining the historical context of state terrorism in Argentina. The article will also discuss various elements of the concept of social memory, socio-cultural mechanisms of generating and supporting social memory, as well as the influence of the memory of the past on the collective identity. The pressure on institutionalized forgetting about events of the painful past will further be developed. The authoress also describes the activism and articulation of human rights activists - Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo and four main areas of their activity: space, body, networks/information, motherhood.
Niniejszy tekst omawia rolę argentyńskiej organizacji obrony praw człowieka - Matek z Placu Mayo - w konstruowaniu społecznej pamięci i przekazywaniu wiadomości na temat zbrodni dyktatury wojskowej i państwowego terroryzmu w Argentynie w latach 1976-1983. Wychodząc z założenia, że to właśnie pamięć o zaginionych ofiarach wojskowej dyktatury i zbrodniach państwowego terroryzmu jest podstawą, na której konstruowane są założenia i działalność ruchu społecznego, jakim są Matki z Placu Mayo (Las Madres de Plaza de Mayo), za kluczowe dla przedstawienia omawianej problematyki uznano zdefiniowanie pojęcia pamięci zbiorowej i funkcji, jakie przeszłość pełni w teraźniejszości oraz wyjaśnienie historycznego kontekstu wydarzeń nieodłącznie związanego z państwowym terroryzmem i jego przejawami w Argentynie. W tekście omówione zostaną rozmaite elementy pojęcia pamięci zbiorowej i społeczno-kulturowe mechanizmy jej wytwarzania i podtrzymywania, a także wpływ pamięci przeszłości na kształtowanie się tożsamości zbiorowej. Poruszony zostanie również problem zagrożeń, wynikających z nacisków zinstytucjonalizowanego zapominania o wydarzeniach bolesnej przeszłości oraz temat społecznych funkcji przywoływanej pamięci. Przedstawione zostaną także oryginalne formy i taktyki działania Matek z Placu Mayo jako ruchu społecznego oraz cztery obszary, na których w swych działaniach skupiają się Matki: przestrzeń, ciało, sieć/informacja, macierzyństwo.

Opis:: Desde 2005 hasta el presente, los juicios por Crímenes de lesa humanidad habidos en Argentina entre 1976 y 1983, generaron una masa de fuentes documentales de origen judicial, testimonial y textual poco trabajada, aún, por el campo historiográfico. El presente trabajo, como parte de una investigación en curso, resulta del relevamiento de doscientas causas judiciales que, cumplimentadas con otras fuentes, nos permiten ensayar una reconstrucción de los complejos represivos. Estos espacios, posteriormente convertidos en prueba judicial, son lugares de memoria y terreno de disputas por los sentidos y las narrativas sobre los pasados traumáticos. Aquí nos interesa plantear y desarrollar la relación entre cada espacio de represión y las memorias de los sobrevivientes de cada uno de ellos.
From 2005 to the present, the judgments for Crimes against humanity that took place in Argentina between 1976 and 1983, generated a mass of documentary sources of judicial, testimonial and textual origin, little worked on, even by the historiographic field. This work, as part of an ongoing investigation, results from the survey of two hundred judicial cases that, completed with other sources, allow us to try a reconstruction of the repressive complexes. These spaces, later converted into judicial evidence, are places of memory and terrain of disputes over the senses and narratives about traumatic pasts. Here we are interested in raising and developing the relationship between each space of repression and the memories of the survivors of each one of them.

Tytuł:: Yemen as the example of a dysfunctional state
Jemen jako przykład państwa dysfunkcyjnego.

Opis:: The aim of this thesis is to analyse the system and the circumstances which turned Yemen into dysfunctional state. The first chapter presents characteristics of the country, a brief history of Yemen from ancient times, when it was a global trading power, important time of conversion to Islam, the Ziyadid Imamat, conquest by the Ottoman Empire and the British Empire, to the independence of the North and the South. The second chapter is devoted to dysfunctional states, their origins and the terminology as well as the institutions that focus on the problems of weak and failing states. The chapter also shows their place in the international legal system and the impact they have on the global security. The third chapter presents the current situation in country. It begins with the intention of uniting the country in 1990, description of wars, tribal conflicts and reflection on the Arab Spring and the battles against economic situation, unemployment, corruption, reduction of civil liberties and long time president reign. The fourth chapter characterizes Yemen as a Muslim country, describes its religion, Arab nationality, outrageous working conditions, child labour, the plight of women and other social abuses. The fifth chapter shows the problems that the country faces in the twenty-first century, that is high crime rate and lack of state legitimacy, poorly functioning health care, demographic pressures, emigration, human rights violations, human trafficking, terrorism and piracy.
Celem pracy jest analiza systemu i wydarzeń, które doprowadziły do Jemen do dysfunkcyjności. Rozdział pierwszy przedstawia charakterystykę kraju, ukazuje pokrótce historię Jemenu, od czasów antycznych, kiedy był światową potęgą handlową, przez ważny czas przyjęcia islamu, imamatu zajdyckiego, podboju przez Imperium Osmańskie i Brytyjskie, do uzyskania niepodległości Północy, a następnie Południa. Rozdział drugi poświęcony jest natomiast dysfunkcyjności państw, genezie, terminologii i instytucjom zajmującym się tą problematyką, a także miejscu jakie zajmuje w rzeczywistości prawnomiędzynarodowej oraz jak oddziałuje na bezpieczeństwo międzynarodowe. Sytuacja bieżąca ukazana jest w rozdziale trzecim, rozpoczętym drogą do zjednoczenia i połączenie się państw w 1990 roku. Opisuje wojny oraz konflikty plemienne, mające swe odzwierciedlenie w Arabskiej Wiośnie i walkach przeciwko złej sytuacji materialnej, bezrobociu, korupcji, ograniczaniu swobód obywatelskich i długoletnim rządom prezydenta. Rozdział czwarty prezentuje Jemen jako kraj muzułmański, wychodząc od religii i narodowości arabskiej, przez złe warunki pracy i zmuszanie do niej dzieci, ukazuje inne nadużycia społeczne i trudną sytuację kobiet. Problemy z jakimi się boryka w XXI wieku poruszane są w rozdziale piątym, należą do nich między innymi wysoki stopień kryminalizacji i brak legitymizacji władzy centralnej, źle funkcjonująca opieka zdrowotna, presja demograficzna, uchodźstwo, łamanie praw człowieka, handel ludźmi, terroryzm i piractwo.

Opis:: The main subject of this thesis is to present aspects of relations between media and terrorism. Its main point is to reveal the connections between the actions of terrorist groups and the media coverage. The thesis focuses on presentation of forms of the modern media relations reporting the events connected with terrorism.The research contains the activity of the biggest terrorist groups, including Al-Qaeda and the so-called Islamic State. Those organizations’ potential and their functioning allow to confirm the hypothesis that media are actually a powerful tool in terrorists’ hands. The elaboration has been divided into three main chapters. The first one is a historical view of a terrorism phenomenon and its division.The second part provides a presentation of functioning of the previously mentioned organizations, and their tactics and purposes to use media. The third chapter describes the form of media messages about all aspects of terrorism. Moreover, the introduction contains the preface to the topic and presentation of the defined positions. The ending of the thesis includes the final conclusion of the problem.While preparing this thesis author used publications of such authors as Krzysztof Liedel, Tomasz Goban-Klas, Janusz Danecki or Janusz Skosolas. Furthermore, author used the press and internet sources which enabled him to confirm the main hypothesis. There were no serious problems with access to information while doing the research.
Tematem niniejszej pracy są aspekty związane z funkcjonowaniem mediów oraz terroryzmu. Celem pracy było głównie ukazanie powiązań występujących pomiędzy działalnością organizacji terrorystycznych a przekazem medialnym. Wypracowanie skupia się również na zaprezentowaniu jakie formy przyjmuje obecna relacja medialna dotycząca wydarzeń związanych z terroryzmem. W pracy opisana została działalność największych organizacji terrorystycznych (Al-Kaidy oraz tak zwanego Państwa Islamskiego). Potencjał tych organizacji oraz ich funkcjonowanie w największym stopniu pozwoliło na potwierdzenie tezy, iż media stanowią potężne narzędzie w rękach terrorystów. Opracowanie podzielone zostało na trzy główne rozdziały. Pierwszy z nich jest rysem historycznym samego zjawiska jakim jest terroryzm oraz jego podziałem. Kolejną część stanowi zaprezentowanie funkcjonowania wspomnianych organizacji oraz ukazania sposobu i celów wykorzystywania przez nich mediów. Trzeci rozdział prezentuje natomiast formę w jakiej media relacjonują przekaz dotyczący aspektu terroru. Ponadto we wstępie wypracowania znaleźć można wprowadzenie do tematu oraz przedstawienie określonych założeń. Zakończenie pracy jest zaś finalnym podsumowaniem omówionych zagadnień. W pracy wykorzystane zostały publikację takich autorów jak: Krzysztof Liedel, Tomasz Goban-Klas, Janusz Danecki czy Janusz Skosolas. Ponadto autor skorzystał z publikacji licznych zagranicznych autorów, którzy od lat zajmują się badaniem zagadnień dotyczących terroryzmu. Autor skorzystał również z artykułów oraz źródeł internetowych, które pozwoliły na potwierdzenie założonej na wstępie tezy. W realizowaniu pracy nie napotkano na poważniejsze problemy.
