Opis:
The author attempts to define the genological structure of Stories from a Pocket and Stories from Another Pocket by Karel Čapek. The analysis of titles and content of stories leads to the conclusion that in search of a way to disseminate culture, to create popular literature, however with high artistic values, by applying his own invention the Czech author went far beyond mere replication of detective and criminal novel patterns commonly used in Euro-Atlantic culture. His ingenuity in the “genre instrumentation” of these short detective and criminal stories was remarkable and produced great results.

The analysis of stories written by pupils from sixth and seventh grades proves that they evaluate the depicted world mainly by means of stylistic word formation devices, especially hypocoristic forms and epithets, most frequently of positive markedness. They are also willing to apply exclamations, e.g. łał! and colloquial words such as spoko and goœciu. Their application of phraseological expressions and the creation of metaphors does not seem to be very frequent. Metaphors serve mainly as means to describe abstract concepts, e.g. Rozkwitająca miłość przypomina wschód słońca (The thriving love resembles a sunrise). The analysis of the stories proves that pupils evaluate positively what brings them satisfaction, provides a feeling of safety and what is beautiful, which means that moral, aesthetic and hedonistic values are important to them. Negative valuation, in turn, concerns, first of all, what is related to pain, fear, violence, i.e. with vital and moral anti-values.

Opis:
The absence of decision making is one of the aspects of the issues of will and choices in short French court narratives of the XII and XIII centuries. The paper focuses on two executions that present this motif. Protagonists facing numerous options – or, on the contrary, being faced with dramatic turning points in the plot that restrict their choices – feel a kind of decision deadlock. In the analysed texts, the absence of decision – short or long term – is shown in the narratives with ‘ne set que faire’ formula (“does not know, what to do”) and a reference to advice needed by the indecisive protagonist.

Opis:
This text examines three life stories about becoming mentally ill and Albert Camus’ fictive narrative “The Stranger”. The main concern is how the social and psychiatry intervenes in the narrative that the interviewees give. Drawing from a reasoning in Michel Foucaults monograph Madness and Civilization and Dorothy Smiths work on relations of ruling the argument in this article is that when becoming mentally ill one is involved in a process of loosing agency in ones own life story. Illustratively with Camus novel the analysis unravel that the interviewees become strangers in their own life story.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to point out the possibilities of using the first information about the crime of corruption to build a crime story, although the concept of the story is not much common ground for the practice of inquiry. Corruption crimes are characterized by significant problems of the nature of detection and legal evidential value, which makes it complicated for the authorities conducting proper investigations in the case. In the present study the author points to the essence and methods of creating the storyline of events, while leveraging the scientific achievements in the field of open source intelligence and criminal intelligence. With such a scheme drawn up, it is possible to raise the quality of pre-trial proceedings in cases of corruption, as illustrated by numerous examples.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to explain the differences between the concepts of truth and lie in European and Chinese cultures and to verify if the differences are visible in particular humorous stories. Another objective is to see what the consequences of lying in those stories are, and what they say about the pictured value systems. Pursuing dao was the main task in the scholarship of most of the ancient Chinese philosophers, while the Ancient Greek philosophers considered pursuing truth as their ultimate goal. Dao is a polysemous word in the ancient Chinese language, with multiple meanings of ‘way’, ‘road’, ‘walk’ and ‘speak,’ etc.To check the humorous potential of the Chinese stories, one hundred texts coming from different sources and various time spans have been taken into consideration. Some of them were old and traditional; others came from the pages of the texts for learners of Chinese as a foreign language, and still some other stories were taken from a contemporary anthology. Only five per cent of the stories deal with the subject of truth and lie, and the distribution was not equal in various sources.
