Opis:: The aim of this article is to investigate the origins of the Women’s Front, a women’s movement co-founded by Norwegian Maoists in the 1970s. The analysis seeks to capture the dynamics of women’s activism in relation to the broader political landscape and, concurrently, to understand the Women’s Front in a broader temporal perspective. The sources used were newspapers and publications issued by different branches of the Norwegian Maoist movement. Women’s politics are analysed both as a grassroots phenomenon and a part of agitation which emerged under the 1972 anti-EEC campaign. This makes it possible to show how women’s politics found a place on the agenda of Norwegian Maoism and what kind of obstacles it had to face on its way to gaining autonomy. The patterns of feminist mobilisation demonstrated by this analysis can make a contribution to the broader debate on the role and place of feminism in traditional political structures.

Opis:: Teza. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia genezę i krótki zarys historii rozwoju ruchu studenckiego w Ameryce i Wielkiej Brytanii oraz jego wizerunek w filmach z gatunku college movies, które pojawiły się w XX wieku, głównie w Ameryce. Omówione koncepcje. Zagadnienia dotyczące przynależności do korporacji studenckich, klubów sportowych i uczestnictwa w innych zajęciach nadobowiązkowych znalazły odzwierciedlenie w filmach z wyżej wymienionego gatunku. Wyniki i wnioski. W filmach studenckich odzwierciedlane są głównie bractwa i działalność sportowa. Natomiast uczestnictwo w wydawaniu gazet i czasopism w kampusach, od lat 30-tych i 50-tych XX wieku, w klubach muzycznych i teatralnych, samorządzie studenckim oraz zaangażowanie w działalność polityczną są zazwyczaj wątkami pobocznymi w stosunku do głównej fabuły. Przedstawiony wizerunek jest więc niepełny i stereotypowy, co ma znaczący wpływ na postrzeganie anglosaskiej rzeczywistości akademickiej przez społeczności na całym świecie. Oryginalność/wartość poznawcza podejścia. Przegląd dostępnej literatury związanej z tematem pozwala wyciągnąć wniosek, że dotychczasowe badania nie analizowały zbiorczo przykładów z kina amerykańskiego i brytyjskiego, i nie porównywały ich z rzeczywistym wizerunkiem. Zagadnienia te są przedmiotem szerszych badań na temat wizerunku środowiska akademickiego i uniwersytetu jako instytucji na podstawie wybranych brytyjskich i amerykańskich utworów literackich z gatunku powieści akademickiej/kampusowej, jak i filmów typu college movies, w większości należących do kina amerykańskiego oraz poszukiwań śladów powieści akademickiej w literaturze polskiej i kinie polskim.
Thesis: The paper presents the genesis and a brief outline of the history of students activism development in America and the United Kingdom, as well as its image in college movies, which appeared in the twentieth century, mainly in America. Discussed concepts: Issues regarding the participation in student corporations, sports clubs and other extra-curricular activities were reflected in the movies belonging to the aforementioned genre. Results and conclusions: In the college movies fraternities and sport activities are mainly reflected. However, the publication of newspapers and magazines on campuses, from the 1930s and 1950s the participation in music and theatre clubs, student self-government and involvement in political activities are usually peripheral to the main story. The presented image is therefore incomplete and stereotypical, what has a significant impact on the perception of Anglo-Saxon academic reality by communities around the world. Originality / cognitive value of the approach: An overview of the available literature related to the subject matter allows to conclude that the research, which have been made so far, has not collectively analysed the examples from the American and British movies and not compared them with the real images. Those issues are the subject matter of broader research on the image of the academic community and the university as an institution based on selected British and American the academic/campus novels as well as college movies, mostly belonging to American ones, and searching for traces of academic novels in Polish literature and movies.

Tytuł:: Bezpieczne przestrzenie. Powstawanie studenckich organizacji LGBTQ+
Safe Spaces. Creating LGBTQ+ student organizations

Opis:: Celem pracy jest zaprezentowanie i przeanalizowanie procesu powstawania nowych studenckich organizacji LGBTQ+. Od 2019 roku obserwujemy wzrost działalność studenckich organizacji skupiających się na problemach społeczności LGBTQ+ na polskich uczelniach wyższych. Chociaż pierwsza taka organizacja powstała już w 2011 roku na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim, to dopiero kolejna, powstała w 2019 przyniosła znaczące zmiany dla sytuacji osób studenckich LGBTQ+. Na podstawie wywiadów z osobami założycielskimi oraz badań ilościowych w formie ankiet skierowanych do osób członkowskich, przedstawiam i analizuję poszczególne etapy powstawania organizacji: zaczynając od TęczUJ, czyli organizacji powstałej na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim, aż po QRA PW działające na Politechnice Warszawskiej. Moje pytania i zainteresowanie badawcze obejmują tematy od pierwszych idei i inspiracji, przez zbieranie pomysłów oraz proces formalizacji, kończąc na reakcjach na powstanie i działalność. Stawiam także dwie hipotezy, odnoszące się do celów istnienia organizacji oraz potrzeby ich oficjalnej formalizacji. Wyniki badań pokazują, że wiele z pierwszych planów oraz oczekiwań osób założycielskich zmienia swoją formę przed oficjalnym powstaniem organizacji. Zauważalna jest także zmiana profilu działalności, z tej nastawionej na wprowadzanie zmian systemowych, na skupienie się na aspekcie zrzeszania i integracji osób studiujących ze społeczności LGBTQ+ w obrębie uczelni. Wydaje się, że studenckie organizacje LGBTQ+ nie skupiają się już na walce i polepszeniu sytuacji prawnej, lecz dbają one o stworzenie bezpiecznych przestrzeni, których uczelnie nie zawsze zapewniają osobom studiującym. Pomimo, że opisywane przeze mnie organizacje istnieją zbyt krótko, aby mówić o ich pełnym wpływie na polskie uczelnie oraz aktywizm LGBTQ+, zauważalny jest jednak ich wpływ na obecne oraz potencjalne osoby studiujące identyfikujące się ze społecznością LGBTQ+.
This work aims to present and analyze the process of creating new LGBTQ+ student organizations. Since 2019, we have observed an increase in the number of student organizations focused on the issues of the LGBTQ+ community at Polish universities. Even though the first such organization was formed in 2011 at the Warsaw University, it wasn’t until the next one came to be in 2019 that major changes have been brought to the LGBTQ+ student communities across the country. Based on interviews with the founders and quantitative research based on questionnaires presented to organizations’ members, I will present and analyse the stages of the process of creating new organizations: from TęczUJ at the Jagiellonian University, to QRA PW at the Warsaw University of Technology. My questions and interests include topics from concepts and inspirations, through gathering ideas and the formalization of organizations, to the first reactions towards the organization’s creation and activity. I also formulate two hyphoteses referring to the organization's aims and the issue of its official formalization. My research shows that many first ideas and expectations are quickly abandoned and changed before the official registration. We can also see a change in the focus of the organization's main goal, from the first organization fighting for better treatment of LGBTQ+ students to the new organizations focusing more on internal integration of LGBTQ+ students within their university. It seems that new organizations are no longer focused on legal aspects but they aim to create safe spaces for LGBTQ+ students that universities often lack. Even though it is too early to analyze the full scope of the influence of the young organizations, I focus on in my research, on Polish universities and LGBTQ+ activism in the country, we can already see how it affects the current and potential future LGBTQ+ students alike.

Opis:: Niniejszy esej pochodzący z 1915 roku można czytać jako podsumowanie twórczości z okresu młodości Waltera Benjamina spędzonej w Berlinie i Fryburgu. Przyjmując perspektywę zarazem metafizyczną, jak i historyczną autor podejmuje w nim kwestię nędzy życia studenckiego i uniwersytetu w społeczeństwie burżuazyjnym. Przedmiotem krytyki stają się w nim alienujące funkcje szkolnictwa w postaci wymogów profesjonalizacji i coraz ściślejszego podziału naukowych kompetencji, w których dezintegracji ulega idea jedności wiedzy.
This essay, originally published in 1915, can be read as a summary of works composed during Walter Benjamin’s youth, from the period of living in Berlin and Freiburg. From both a metaphysical and historical perspective, Benjamin engages with the poverty of student life and the university under capitalism and bourgeois society. He offers a critique of the alienating functions of higher education in the forms of enforced professionalization, as well as the increasingly pronounced division of academic labor, in which the idea of the unity of knowledge disintegrates.

Autor podejmuje w nim kwestię współczesnego kryzysu uniwersytetu i przekształceń szkolnictwa wyższego we Włoszech przez pryzmat doświadczeń protestów i oporu studentów w 1968 roku. Kontekstem jego rozważań są kolejne reformy szkolnictwa wyższego towarzyszące polityce zaciskania pasa, które we Włoszech kontynuowano od początku XXI wieku. Jednak, zdaniem autora, podobnie jak czterdzieści lat temu, również dziś kryzys otwiera przed studentami i studentkami drogę do przebudowy uniwersytetu, jeśli tylko zdolni będą się zorganizować.
This essay by Franco Piperno, an Italian communist militant, was originally published as an appendix to his book 68: L’anno che ritorna. From the perspective of his own experiences with the students’ protests and resistance during 1968, he looks at the contemporary crisis of the university and the transformation of higher education in Italy. The context of his deliberations are the ongoing reforms of Italian higher education, which are tightly connected to austerity measures that originated at the beginning of the 21st century. According to Piperno, the current crisis, similarly to the one from forty years ago, opens a possibility to reappropriate the university for students, as long as they can organize themselves.

Opis:: The subject of the study is the history of academic corporations in Cracow from the moment the first of them were founded in 1923 until the outbreak of World War II.At first, the formation of Polish corporations in the nineteenth century at universities in the German culture circle, their structure, ideological character, as well as the problem of transferring the associations' activity to Poland after 1918 is discussed. Moreover, the growth of the academic corporation movement in the Second Polish Republic was presented, as well as ideological and union divisions, characteristic of this period. The subject of the analysis is also the events determining the political attitudes and organizational development of Polish fraternities in the period between the First and Second World War.After presenting the historical background, the process of establishing Cracow’s academic corporations is analysed; from which political and ideological milieu do local fraternities originated, what the organizational specificity of Cracow’s associations looked like, their growth, the academic center from which they drew their traditions and their significance against the background of the nationwide academic corporations. The problem of hierarchy in associations and union divisions is discussed, along with a description of important inter-organizational congresses which Cracow corporations conducted / planned to conduct.Subsequently, the political ideas professed by the Cracow fraternities are described. First, research problems connected with the subject in question are presented, including the problem of political affiliations of the discussed organizations. The issues of the state, nation, social, economic, political and religious aspects in ideological documents are described from the perspective of the union affiliation of Cracow corporations taking into account their individual features. A separate subsection is also devoted to non-associated ("wild") fraternities.The last part of the studies is devoted to the activity of Cracow’s corporations; premises and financial problems affecting the quality of this activity, the spectrum of intra-organizational involvement (scientific, social, administrative, sports, etc.). Subsequently, the issue of external actions is discussed (public presence at university, church and patriotic celebrations, involvement and organization of political action, activism). There is also an outline of the issue of influence and activity of fraternities within self-help and scientific organizations of Cracow academic schools. . Finally, the perception of a member of the organizations in question in the academic community of Cracow is presented and an attempt is made to show a possibly faithful image of a fraternity member in accordance with the preserved sources.
Przedmiotem studiów są dzieje krakowskich korporacji akademickich od momentu powstania pierwszych z nich w 1923 do wybuch II wojny światowej.Najpierw omówiono powstanie korporacji polskich w XIX wieku na uniwersytetach w kręgu kultury niemieckiej, ich strukturę, charakter ideowy, a także problem przenoszenia aktywności stowarzyszeń do Polski po 1918. Ponadto przedstawiono rozrost ruchu korporacji akademickich w II RP, podziały ideowe i związkowe, charakterystyczne dla tego okresu. Przedmiotem analizy były też wydarzenia determinujące postawy polityczne i rozwój organizacyjny korporacji polskich.Po przedstawieniu tła historycznego, przeanalizowano proces powstania krakowskich korporacji akademickich; z jakiego środowiska politycznego i ideowo – wychowawczego wywodzą się lokalne konwenty, jak wyglądała specyfika organizacyjna krakowskich stowarzyszeń, ich rozrost, z jakiego ośrodka akademickiego czerpały tradycje oraz znaczenie na tle środowiska ogólnopolskiego korporacji akademickich. Poruszono problem hierarchii w organizacjach i lokalnych podziałów związkowych z opisem ważnych zjazdów ogólnopolskich które przeprowadziły / planowały przeprowadzić krakowskie korporacje.Kolejno opisano idee polityczne, które wyznawały konwenty krakowskie najpierw prezentując problemy badawcze sprzężone z rzeczonym tematem w tym problem związków politycznych omawianych organizacji. Problematyka państwa, narodu, zagadnień społecznych, gospodarczych, ustrojowych i religijnych w dokumentach ideowo – wychowawczych, została opisana przez pryzmat przynależności związkowej korporacji krakowskich z uwzględnieniem ich indywidualnych cech. Osobny podrozdział poświęcono też stowarzyszeniom niezrzeszonym („dzikim”).Ostatnia część studiów poświęcona jest aktywności korporacji krakowskich; problemów lokalowych i finansowych wpływających na jakość tej działalności, spektrum zaangażowania wewnątrzorganizacyjnego (naukowego, towarzyskiego, administracyjnego, sportowego itd.). Kolejno omówiono zagadnienie wystąpień zewnętrznych konwentów (publiczna obecność na uroczystościach uniwersyteckich, kościelnych, patriotycznych, zaangażowanie i organizacja akcji politycznej, aktywizm). Zaprezentowano też zarys problematyki wpływów i aktywności korporantów w ramach organizacji samopomocowych i naukowych krakowskich szkół wyższych. Na końcu przedstawiono postrzeganie korporanta w środowisku akademickim Krakowa i dokonano próby zaprezentowania możliwie wiernego obrazu członka konwentów w świetle zachowanych źródeł.
