Opis:
The paper presents a comparison of the higher harmonics in the induced voltages in the stator windings of cylindrical synchronous generator rated at 8.5 kVA under no-load conditions. The comparison is made for the generator with linear and non-linear magnetic circuit without damping cage using constant and variable field current. The calculations of the electromagnetic parameters are carried out in FEMM program. The simulation results are verified experimentally.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to compare mathematical modeling and practical bench in order to validate the electrical interactions between an induction generator and a synchronous generator. Two generators was connected to a common bus in steady state, subject to non-linear load. The results comparing modeling and bench tests show that the induction generator besides the active power increasing, has a better way for harmonic currents flowing in common bus. It was concluded that the induction generator repowering and attenuates current harmonic components present at the connection point, improving the network voltage profile.

Opis:

Opis:
The article presents the feasibility study of using the three-phase synchronous generator with the AC exciter as a starter for the Fiat 0.9 TwinAir CNG 80 HP internal combustion engine. The investigated power generation unit consists of the above mentioned internal combustion engine which can be powered by a biogas and the three-phase electric power generator MeccAlte 16 kW with the AC exciter. The use of an electric generator for starting a combustion engine is an innovative approach, which eliminates the need for additional components like starter reducing the mass and the failure frequency of the device. Similar approaches have been already investigated by the aircraft manufacturers for starting the jet engines of the airliners and are widely used in the hybrid engines for vehicles. The field winding of the three-phase synchronous generator described in the paper is connected to the AC exciter via a rotating rectifier bridge. This solution eliminates the necessity of using slip rings and facilitates a voltage regulation of the generator. The authors of the paper analyse the technical and practical possibilities of using such a synchronous generator with the exciter as a starting motor by measuring its output power and starting torque. The economic aspects of such a solution for unit and mass production have been also considered.

Opis:
This paper proposes a system design and control technique for a newly developed brushless and permanent magnetless synchronous generator-based variable-speed wind energy generation system, transferring power to a constant voltage dc grid via a three-level Vienna rectifier (VR). The recently established generator named Brushless Induction excited Synchronous Generator (BINSYG) is a wound field synchronous generator (WFSG), whose excitation is developed by controlling an Induction Machine fitted to the same machine structure and sharing the same magnetic core. A new controller is proposed that ensures the stable operation of BINSYG for a wide variation of shaft speeds. VR achieves sinusoidal input current and can control the power factor at its input, which is particularly suitable for wind energy applications. The top and bottom capacitor voltages of the VR are balanced using redundant switching combinations. The system with its proposed control algorithm is modelled in MATLAB/Simulink for a 5 kW rated BINSYG feeding power to a 750 V dc grid. The steady-state and dynamic state simulation results are presented and the controller performance is verified for a wide range of wind speeds. Further, real-time results using the OPAL-RT testbed are presented for the same system to verify the effectiveness of the overall control strategy.

Opis:
Magnetic decoupling principle when applied to electrical machines states that if two windings are configured for different number of pole pairs, they would not interact with each other magnetically even though they share a common magnetic core. This principle forms the basis for developing special machines where two or more machines can be integrated with the same magnetic circuit. This paper deals with formulating the mathematical analysis that determines the validity of this principle during practical conditions (i.e. non-sinusoidal winding distribution, flux saturation, etc.). Extensive Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation results from the Ansys Maxwell-2D software platform closely obey the conclusions derived from the mathematical analysis. As an example, new brushless and magnetless synchronous machines (SMs) have been developed by using this principle. It is designed by embedding an induction machine (IM) with a SM. Experimental investigations conducted on the laboratory prototype support the mathematical analysis dealt with in this paper.

Opis:
This article briefly introduces the characteristics of ships' electrical power networks, and an existing system is described as an example. A mathematical model of a selected power system, including generators with a drive and its loads, is presented. The algorithm implementing the author's numerical method, named 'the average step voltages method', is described. The chosen numerical method is notable for its stability and high accuracy, even in combination with a large integration step size. Software and hardware applications of the RT AVR tester are also shown. To check the adequacy of the simulations using the implemented model, experimental measurements were carried out. The measurements, including dynamic states, obtained by the computer tester with the AVR system, as well as the physical model with the AVR system, are summarized. Possibilities for usage in the marine industry in the future are also outlined.

Opis:
The paper presents the background and results of numerical simulation and experimental research of a system using auctioneering diodes used to distribute the power of direct current between two power converters operating in parallel. Non-isolated power distribution systems using blocking diodes are used in the ship's electrical power systems, however, they create problems related to control and the possibility of ground faults. Another issue occurring during the operation of this type of systems is the increased heat dissipation. Selected problems related to the operation of the above systems have been identified by means of simulation studies and experiments carried out in a 11 kVA laboratory system and the theoretical basis along with results are provided in the article.

Opis:
The virtual synchronous generator (VSG) and sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) are two prominent control strategies that have attracted particular interest recently. In this paper, we compare these two inverter control strategies in a 5MW wind power conversion chain. The studied conversion chain includes a wind turbine, a permanent magnet synchronous generator, the power converters, namely the uncontrolled rectifier, and a two-stage inverter connected to the grid via an LCL filter. Our study of the two control methods shows that both strategies reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD) while respecting the grid connection conditions. The simulation results manifest that the VSG strategy has a better THD reduction of 0.99 % which is improved compared to the SPWM with a THD of 1.33%.
