Opis:
Terrain database is the reference basic for autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to implement underwater terrain navigation (UTN) functions, and is the important part of building topographical features model for UTN. To investigate the feasibility and correlation of a variety of terrain parameters as terrain navigation information metrics, this paper described and analyzed the underwater terrain features and topography parameters calculation method. Proposing a comprehensive evaluation method for terrain navigation information, and constructing an underwater navigation information analysis model, which is associated with topographic features. Simulation results show that the underwater terrain features, are associated with UTN information directly or indirectly, also affect the terrain matching capture probability and the positioning accuracy directly.

The classification of terrain in terms of passability plays a significant role in the process of military terrain assessment. It involves classifying selected terrain to specific classes (GO, SLOW-GO, NO-GO). In presented project, the problem of terrain classification to the respective category of passability was solved (among others) by applying artificial neural networks to generate (calculate) Index of Passability (IOP).

Opis:
The true digital terrain map (DTM) is needed to calculate so-called terrain gravity potential. It is one of the fundamental factors in earth geoid shape determination. There are many methods of calculation of the gravity potential. The gravity integral should cover all Earth area. There is no possibility to establish digital terrain map for whole planet. So it must be numerically proved, if the gravity integral converges to its extreme value for some limited part of the earth area. The model of DTM was established mathematically for testing a different way of gravity potential calculation. It contains all features of real DTM and has been build up in two steps processing.

Opis:
The objective of the undertaken research was to characterize and evaluate the impact of weather and lighting conditions on recording terrain anomalies in the photographs obtained during a UAV photogrammetric flight. The present work describes the use and capabilities of the UAV in the mapping of photo acquisition conditions similar to those performed during inspection flights with the use of a manned helicopter equipped with a hyperspectral camera, in the target range of visible light. The research was conducted in the southern part of Poland (between Gliwice and Katowice), where 7 routes were selected, differing from one another in terms of terrain anomalies (buildings, types of land areas, vehicles, vegetation). In the studies, which involved photogrammetric flights performed using a UAV, different seasons and times of day as well as changes in light intensity were taken into account. The flight specification was based on the main parameters with the following assumptions: taking only perpendicular (nadir) RGB photographs, flight altitude 120 m AGL, strip width 160 m, GSD ≤0.04 m and overlap ≥83%. The analysis of the photographic material obtained made it possible to correct the catalog of anomalies defined previously, since the recognition of some objects is very difficult, being usually below the orthophotomap resolution. When making and evaluating orthophotomaps, problems with mapping the shape of objects near the edges of the frame were found. When a 12 mm lens is used, these distortions are significant. It was decided that for the purpose of generating training data from orthophotomaps, only the fragments containing objects which shape would be mapped in accordance with the real one would be used. Thus, the effective width of orthophotomaps obtained from simulated flights will be approximately 100 m.

Between 01.01.2010 and 31.12.2011, we conducted measurements of air temperature and relative humidity at points located deep within forest area, along the edge of the forest in the immediate vicinity of a lake and in open terrain. The thermal and humidity conditions that have a stimulating effect on human well-beeing were determined for the selected locations by calculating the number of hot (tmax ≥ 25°C) and very hot days (tmax ≥ 30°C) as well as the number of frosty (tmax < 0°C) and very frosty days (tmin ≤ −10°C). The range of the stimulatory effect on human well-being by temperature was determined based on changes in the average night temperature and the amplitude of the daily air temperature. Stimulating humidity conditions were determined by comparing the the relative humidity to a reference value associated with a moist feeling and calculating the number of humid days (s ≥18.8 mbar).

Opis:
Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) products are now often used to study the terrain due to their numerous advantages such as relatively low cost and ease of data collection. The ISOK project (pl: Informatyczny System Osłony Kraju – national hazard protection information system) developed elevation data for about 65% of the Polish territory. Parallel to the airborne laser scanning point cloud collection, additional products, such as orthophotomaps, digital terrain models (DTM), and digital surface models (DSM) were created. This resource is not only a reference material for the project, but also a valuable source of the analysis used in various fields of economy and science. Important features of the ISOK-data are the availability and their standardized format based on uniform technical conditions. The article presents the results of an experiment in which an attempt was made to use the digital elevation model with a resolution of 1 m based on airborne laser scanning data to determine concave terrain features using GIS tools. The ISOK-DTM has a height accuracy of 0.15 m for the outdoor areas, which makes it a better representation of small terrain forms than previous products. The research area is located at an undeveloped open ground with comparatively little variation of its shape for a long period. Several methods were tested to classify the terrain shape based of topographic attributes. Those methods led to similar locations of the concave features and further on coincide with results of the pre-analysis. Also, attention was drawn to the selection of the analysis parameters and their influence on the result. The results show the usefulness of ISOK’s DTM for locating field concave terrain shapes.

Opis:
This paper deals with the terrain classification problem for an autonomous mobile robot. The robot is designed to operate in an outdoor environment. The classifier integrates data from RGB camera and 2D laser scanner. The camera provides information about visual appearance of the objects in front of the robot. The laser scanner provides data about distance to the objects and their ability to reflect infrared beam. In this paper we present the method which create terrain segments and classifies them using joint application of Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier and AdaBoost algorithm. The classifica- tion results of the experimental verification are provided in the paper.

Opis:
This paper describes a computationally inexpensive approach to learning and identification of maneuverable terrain to aid autonomous navigation. We adopt a monocular vision based framework, using a single consumer grade camera as the primary sensor, and model the terrain as a Mixture of Gaussians. Self-supervised learning is used to identify navigable terrain in the perception space. Training data is obtained using pre-filtered pixels, which correspond to near-range traversable terrain. The scheme allows for on-line, and in-motion update of the terrain model. The pipeline architecture used in the proposed algorithm is made amenable to real-time implementation by restricting computations to bit-shifts and accumulate operations. Color based clustering using dominant terrain texture is then performed in perception sub-space. Model initialization and update follows at the coarse scale of an octave image pyramid, and is back projected onto the original fine scale. We present results of terrain learning, tested in heterogeneous environments, including urban road, suburban parks, and indoors. Our scheme provides orders of magnitude improvement in time complexity, when compared to existing approaches reported in literature.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to examine and evaluate the effects of long-term stress on muscle and heart biomarkers after completing a 100 km ultramarathon. Material and Methods: Venous blood samples of nine runners (average age 38.8±10.2 years), who successfully finished a 100 km ultramarathon at an elevation of 3130 m, were examined before the start, at the finish line immediately after the run, one day after the run and then after 5 and 10 days. Clinical, laboratory, and somatometric data were obtained from all measurements, and biomarkers: aspartate aminotransferase (AST), cortisol (COR), troponin T (cTnT), creatine kinase (CK) and C-reactive protein (CRP). Also, their training experience and ultramarathon experience was monitored. Discovered values were further analyzed with the use of t-test a ω2 (ω2≥0.1), and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (r) at the significance level of p<0.05. Results: The average finish time of the runners was 13:55:40 (min: 12:12:35, max: 16:52:02). After finishing the ultramarathon, runners showed an average weight loss of 2.4 kg (p<0.05). The results show that hematological changes were caused by physiological stress and long-term physical load. The values of all monitored biomarkers showed a significant exceeding of the normal values immediately after the race in 8 competitors out of 9. The values of cTnT showed an increase of more than 50 % (pre -race: 8.2±2.3, post-race: 34.22±25.9 ng/l, max=98 ng/l). After 24 hours, however, this condition had returned to the normal values for all participants. The results show that the AST hepatic enzymes significantly correlated with the training experience (r=-0.41, p=0.043), the total number of kilometers run per year (r=-0.45, p=0.04) and the achieved finish time (r=0.67, p=0.001). At the same time, athletes who had the best finish time achieved lower CRP values (r=0.74, p=0.023) and cTnT values (r=0.49, p=0.040). The study found that the competitors who had the longest experience with ultramaraton had the lowest cTnT (r=0.44, p=0.050). Conclusion: Long-term physical stress is associated with metabolic and cardiovascular changes. Blood abnormalities found in our study suggest that due to long-lasting extreme stress, heart exhaustion may occur. However, these changes did not last long and after a few days they returned to the normal values for all runners.
