Opis:
Explanation of phenomena occurring in pistons of combustion engines which appear during heating and cooling processes in reference to standard materials and composite materials of high material proprieties is aim of the paper. Bring over researches were mostly directed on measurements of difference dimensions which appear during the piston work in the combustion engine. The paper concentrates on phenomenon of different proprieties of materials. The thermal stresses and shocks differ. In the thermal shock, thermal stresses are caused by instantaneous temperature gradients which appear at high engine speed. These stresses are determined thro temperature distribution and they do not differ from stresses in steady-state conditions. Researches concerning thermal expansions were performed by means of sensitive dilatometer which can work in simple and differential system. Changes of dimensions versus temperature function were measured with inductive sensor and the sensitive Pt-ptrh thermocouple, and results were referred to reference material-Platinum. Research results are illustrated on diagrams of different courses of changes of the of thermal expansion coefficient during heating and cooling of standard and composite materials. Values of the thermal expansion coefficient a for the heating and cooling are smaller for composite alloys. The course of the coefficient â during cooling can be higher or lower from the coefficient a during heating. Similar values were also received. Maximum differences were of 10%. Smaller values of the coefficient a for composite alloys cause that for such the same thermal loads temperature gradients will be smaller for composite alloys. Courses of changes of the coefficient â have a different characteristics suited from chemical composition of alloy, granularity of the composite component and thermal treatment.

Opis:
Steel bars are manufactured in the rolling process, whereby they are characterized by strain hardening and poor plastic properties. In many application cases such properties are improper, therefore, additional heat treatment is required. Crucial influence on the products quality after heat treatment has an appropriate selection of process parameters. In many modern technologies of heat treatment the charge of porous structure is subjected to the heating process. Proper control of heat treatment parameters of bundles of rods requires knowledge on their thermal properties. However, it also requires accurate identification of complex heat transfer processes occurring in the porous material. Such analysis, with respect to bundles of bars, provide a response of qualitative nature of the heat exchange area of these charges. The article describes the emissivity measurements of samples of the steel charge using a thermal imaging camera.

Opis:
Radon concentration was measured in 11 thermal spas in Visegrad countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia). The results showed that in 84% of spas radon activity concentration is less than 400 Bq·m–3. However, areas with radon activity concentration exceeding 1000 Bq·m–3 were found in the Czech Republic and Slovakia as well. Preliminary analyses indicated that the highest radon activities in spas were found in places with thermal pools. Radon concentration in waters used in spas ranged from 0.5 Bq/l to 384 Bq/l. The influence of radon activity concentration in water on radon activity in the air inside the spa was observed. It was found to increase indoor radon with increasing radon in the waters. Correlation with indoor radon and radon in water was more significant for baths and less significant for pool waters. In the cases filling of the bath from water taps, significantly contribute to the increased radon was observed in the pool and bath areas of the spa.

Opis:
The experiments conducted in a didactic laboratory of the Kielce University of Technology involved temperature distribution measurements on the outer surface of a steel radiator using a thermal imaging camera and thermocouples to compare both investigation methods. The research included registering the parameters for a specific period for each of the four different medium flows. Graphs present the results with the division of the radiator into eight thermal fields. The results present the differences in temperatures between 1.78°C to 3.65°C. The non-contact method with an infrared camera seems more accurate since it is precise for surface temperature measurement.

Opis:
Cube Satellites are miniaturized satellites used for space research with a mass of not more than 1.33 kg per unit. They are widely used in space applications because of its low cost of manufacturing and flexibility of applications. Since, they use commercial off-the-shelf components, thermal consideration of internal components of 1-unit cube satellites becomes a necessity. In this paper, transient thermal analysis of a 1-unit cube satellite is conducted to analyze its behavior during the first 29 seconds of orbit insertion from the launch vehicle. Transient thermal analysis yielded a temperature range that exceeded the optimum limit. As a result, to reduce heat dissipation, two main types of thermal management systems for satellites: active control and passive control systems are included. To maintain critical components at their operating temperature, a passive thermal control is implemented. Thermal strap and multi-layer insulation are used to analyze internal components of 1-unit cube satellite. Using graphite fiber thermal strap and aerogel multi-layer insulation for internal components, the 1-unit modular cube satellite is found to be more suitable under low earth orbit conditions.

Opis:
The paper proposes an automated system for measuring the thermal conductivity of solids in the range from 5 to 400 W/(m·K) with increased accuracy and reduced duration of thermal conductivity measurement. The main element of this system is a thermal conductivity measuring transducer built on a bridge diagram balanced by heat flows. Using the theory of thermal circuits, the authors built a mathematical model of the measuring transducer. To implement the automated system for measuring thermal conductivity, materials of heat-conducting elements, reference specimens, and comparative elements were selected, and their design parameters were calculated. The setting parameters of the control system for balancing the bridge measuring diagram were determined. The authors also carried out the calibration of the developed thermal conductivity measuring system using reference specimens and obtained its calibration characteristic with a correlation coefficient R-square of 0.9987.

Opis:
The paper presents the studies on development of a simplified electrothermal method of measuring the soil thermal conductivity, that may be used directly in the field. A measurement system has been designed and built, that is connected to measuring sensors located in the examined soil. Two types of sensors, i.e. active and passive ones were used. The passive sensors were provided with thermistors used for temperature measurement, while the active one, apart from the thermistor, was provided with a heating element of resistance type. The study has shown that the proposed method, consisting in measuring the steady heat conduction between the measuring sensor and soil, allows to determine the value of the soil thermal conductivity with satisfying accuracy. Moreover, the method is conducive to significantly smaller disturbance of the soil structure, being a reason of measurement errors occurring while using traditional methods. Mathematical processing of the research results has been carried out with the help of STATISTICA software.

Opis:
In this article, the authors present a model and a method of determining thermal parameters of a single point of the thermal touch screen for the blind and thermal parameters of selected parts of a human hand. Blind people, by using this device can "see" a pattern of dots by feeling hot spots. The thermal touch screen for the blind was used as a calorimeter and enables to calculate the amount of heat provided to a finger at a temperature ranging from 8°C to 52°C, that is the full range of temperature detected by humans. The authors designated thermal conductivity and heat capacity of both Peltier micromodule and parts of the user's hand. Results of the presented research allow optimizing the construction of the thermal touch screen for the blind and may be helpful for thermal modelling of the human body.
