Opis:
The paper deals with a specific type of tilt measurements, where an axial tilt is to be determined. The measurements are realized by means of accelerometers - MEMS devices most preferably. Various mathematical relations between the axial tilt and the Cartesian components of the gravitational acceleration are presented. Each relation is described in detail, especially in the terms of the resultant uncertainty of the measurement, as well as the requirements regarding the employed accelerometers. Results of experimental studies realized by means of commercial MEMS accelerometers are presented and discussed, especially with regard to the measurement accuracy that has been evaluated for each mathematical relation. Scope of application of each relation is proposed.

Opis:
Ways of adjusting MEMS accelerometers for tilt measurements over a small angular range of few degrees arc or less are considered with regard to achieving a possibly high accuracy. The paper describes some additional mechanical structures applied to overcome the problem of incompatibility between the large measuring range of MEMS accelerometers and the expected small angular measuring range.

Orientation of lutein in a lipid bilayer : revisited

Opis:
Lutein is present in the human retina and lens, where it plays a protective role. As lutein is associated with the lipid matrix of biomembranes, the role depends on its membrane location. Experimental studies predicted two orientations of lutein in a phosphatidylcholine (PC) bi-layer: vertical and horizontal. Using a molecular dynamics simulation, we observed, in two different PC bilayers, both orientations of lutein, and in each bilayer, a single change from vertical to horizontal orientation or vice ver-sa. Both orientations were stabilized by hydrogen bonding of lutein OH groups with mainly carbonyl but also phosphate oxygen atoms of PC.

Opis:
Background: A tilt table test is a useful, non-invasive technique that has been used for the last few decades to detect autonomic failure. The response to tilting may vary physiologically between sexes. Aim of the study: To assess the gender-specific changes in cardiovascular response to a tilt test in healthy subjects. Material and methods: This experimental study was conducted on 90 healthy males and females aged 18–60 years, from 2019 to 2020. Forty-five male subjects and 45 female subjects were included. Using a motorized tilt table, a tilt table test was performed at 60 degrees for 10 minutes. An automatic sphygmomanometer was used to measure blood pressure (BP), and heart rate (HR) and a pulse oximeter was used for the measurement of peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SpO₂). An independent sample t test, a multiple regression analysis and a chi squared test were conducted for statistical analyses. Results: A significantly greater drop in systolic blood pressure (SBP) was observed in females, compared to males after tilting. In 5.5% of the subjects, orthostatic intolerance occurred, but there were no significant age or gender- specific differences in subjects with orthostatic intolerance. Conclusions: This study concluded that in response to tilting, cardiovascular response was less pronounced in females.

Opis:
Solar photovoltaic power is widely utilized in the energy industry. The performance of solar panels is influenced by different variables, including solar radiation, temperature, wind speed, relative humidity and the presence of haze or dirt. Outdoor solar panels are particularly susceptible to a decrease in energy efficiency due to the accumulation of dust particles in the air, which occurs as a result of natural weather conditions. The extent of dust deposition is primarily determined by factors such as the tilt angle of the panel, wind direction, cleaning frequency as well as local meteorological and geographical conditions. The dust on the solar cell glazing reduces the optical transmittance of the light beam, causing shadowing and diminishing the energy conversion productivity of the panels. Sand storms, pollution levels and snow accumulations all significantly impact the photovoltaic panel performance. These circumstances reduce the efficiency of solar panels. The experiment was carried out on two identical dust-accumulated and dust-free panels. The evaluation was carried out in two different situations on the offgrid stand-alone system: in a simulated atmosphere and in an open space during the day. The current-voltage curves have been developed for both panels at various tilt degrees. The features provide sufficient information to analyse the performance of the panels under consideration. The measurements demonstrate that as dust collects on the panel’s surface, the average output power and short circuit current decrease dramatically. The installation tilt angle affected the ratio of efficiency and average power outputs of dusty and clean panels.

Opis:
The paper describes a possibility of increasing accuracy of measurements of angular position with application of data fusion. Two cases of determining the angular position are considered: accelerometer-based measurements of tilt and measurements of angular position with application of incremental rotation-to-pulse sensor (coupled with an original measuring system described in the paper). Application of the proposed data fusion ensures in both cases decrease of the uncertainty of the related measurement of ca. 40%.
