Opis:: The main focus of this paper is to examine the translation strategies of the translators of Herta Müller’s novel Atemschaukel, Radka Denemarková (Czech) and Katarzyna Leszczyńska (Polish). The aim is to find out to what extent the cultural experience of these translators, consisting of biographical, artistic and linguistic aspects, has influenced the translations. Important in this context is the transculturalism of the author Herta Müller. She uses idiomatic expressions and uses borrowings and a multitude of neologisms, the translation of which is influenced to varying degrees by the cultural experience of the translators in their search for equivalence at the level of expression.

Opis:: Against Homogeneity. Transcultural and Trans-Lingual Strategies in Cultural ProductionThe key idea of the present volume of Colloquia Humanistica is the struggle against homogeneity. All the papers deal with the problem of homogenous narratives and homogenous practices, which most often falsify the complex reality of the human world. No matter if we look for examples in literature, cinema, or if we take a closer look at cultural institutions; our authors question the apparent uniformity which seems to lie behind the familiar categories we use to describe our everyday experience. The languages we speak, books we read, exhibitions we visit – they are supposed to use clearly defined categories with sharp boundaries and unified content. This unwritten agreement makes our life easier and helps us move through the labyrinth of social relations and cultural patterns. But what if we suddenly find out that one of those well-known categories does not suit the reality? Przeciwko jednorodności. Transkulturowe i transjęzykowe strategie w produkcji kulturowejGłównym wątkiem nowego numeru "Colloquia Humanistica" jest walka przeciw jednorodności. Wszystkie artykuły zmagają się z problemem jednorodnych narracji i jednorodnych praktyk, które najczęściej fałszują złożoną rzeczywistość ludzkiego świata. Przykłady możemy czerpać z literatury czy kina, możemy też przyjrzeć się bliżej instytucjom kulturalnym; autorzy i autorki w niniejszym numerze kwestionują rzekomą oczywistość, do której, jak się wydaje, odsyłają codziennie używane kategorie, służące nam do opisu codziennego doświadczenia. Nieważne, czy mówimy o językach, którymi się posługujemy, o książkach, które czytamy, czy o wystawach, jakie zwiedzamy; wszędzie tam zakładamy posługiwanie się jasno zdefiniowanymi kategoriami o ostrych granicach i jednorodnej treści. Ta niepisana umowa ułatwia nam życie i pomaga poruszać się w labiryncie relacji społecznych. A jednak co się dzieje, jeśli nagle odkrywamy, że jedna z tych dobrze znanych kategorii nie pasuje do rzeczywistości?

Opis:: In the wake of developing methods of cultural research, the language of cultural studies is undergoing evolution and enrichment as well. This phenomenon obviously applies to all evolving academic fields, but in the area of the humanities a particular impact, consisting of the (sometimes deliberate) creation of successive cultural spaces, is manifested. For example, the introduction of a new concept may result in the initiation of a trend in the description and categorisation of reality. This is what happened, for example, with the concept, now very fashionable, of gender, which refers to cultural phenomena (which does not necessarily mean, however, that it has a particular referent) that sometimes must be created (interpreted) anew. In other words, these phenomena do not simply exist, but rather are inferred from observations (literally: they would not exist without suitable interpretation). These are followed by further activities, such as the construction of a new axiology and ethics, a new philosophy of the individual (describing him or her in terms of so-called cultural gender), and, in the case of strong sociopolitical trends and activities, modification of law as well. These trends do not usually derive from the work of academics, but from political tendencies. This modest example demonstrates the creative power of concepts in disciplines such as sociology and cultural studies.

Opis:: The author, referring to his own research on the Polish-Lithuanian, Polish-Belarusian and Polish-Ukrainian borderland, formulates the thesis that after the collapse of the USSR individual nations began to develop their own national identity in opposition to other nations. The author poses the question of the civic loyalty with simultaneous loyalty to the culture of origin, national culture. He gives examples and attempts to answer in the context of the arising problems of identity in the emerging multicultural societies. Particular attention is paid to the problems of identity of Poles, as citizens of other countries created after the collapse of the Soviet Union, that is of Poles in Lithuania, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Buryatia.

Opis:: This Bachelor's thesis aims to characterize the transcultural nature of fanfiction in the fandom. The work has been divided into three chapters - two theoretical chapters presenting the phenomenon of fandom and research attitudes of fan studies, and the third one containing the research part. Three cultural aspects were analyzed: language practices, rituals and mythological elements.Research has shown that one form of fan fiction, has a multi-layered and complex transcultural nature. As well as indicated the developed intercultural competences of the fans.
Niniejsza praca licencjacka ma na celu charakterystykę transkulturowego charakteru fanfiction w fandomie. Praca podzielona została na trzy rozdziały — dwa teoretyczne przedstawiające zjawisko fandomu i postaw badawczych fan studies oraz trzeci zawierający część badawczą. Poddane analizie zostały trzy aspekty kulturowe: praktyki językowe, rytuały oraz elementy mitologiczne. Badania wykazały, że w jednej z form twórczości fanowskiej, jaką jest fanfiction, występuje wielopoziomowy, i złożony charakter transkulturowy. Jak i wskazały na rozwinięte kompetencje międzykulturowe fanów.

The explosions in question are related to both real-life terrorist threats as well to the explosive growth of science and technology, which, in the long run, are likely to redefine fundamental social premises along the lines of trans-culturalism.

Opis:: Developments that have been observed in the last decades (globalisation, postmodernism, postcolonialism) have influenced changes in European critical discourse and brought cultural phenomena to the fore. One of the consequences of this new postcolonial consciousness is the challenging of the 19th century concept of Weltliteratur, which is based on Western European tradition. The author of the article refers to the postcolonial writings of E. Said, G.Ch. Spivak and H.K. Bhabhy as well as the concept of cultural dialogue by H. Gadamer, E. Levinas, P. Ricoeur and regards Polish contemporary literature from the perspective of Western research where the traditional, Platonian model of European culture as being a universal culture, is replaced by a dynamic, intercultural interaction. Confronting “homeliness” with “foreigness” produces less narrow assessments. Hierarchies and conditions disappear here and common cultural experience seems to be most important.

The purpose of the reflections in the article is an attempt to find an answer to the question of whether and how films speaking about the topic of multiculturalism could serve intercultural adult communication and education. The modern European cinema audience experiences multiculturalism and is encouraged to reflect on mutual acceptance and tolerance of cultural diversity. The representation in films of ethnical and racial minorities is connected with reflection on migratory movements and the issues of multicultural and transcultural societies. Transculturalism is characterised by cross cultural associations, fusions and convolution leading to the formulation of a novel cosmopolitan culture. Transculturalism acts as a unifying force of cultural diversity that not only brings together different cultures but also creates a new common culture.

Opis:: Between literary and cultural comparative studies The article constitutes an attempt to present in a synthetic way the main assumptions behind the fundamental trends in the comparative studies of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as their evolution.
