Opis:
Interrelationship between physical and chemical properties and milling value of spring and winter triticale grain was examined. Correlation coefficients were calculated on the basis of laboratory tests carried out on qualitatively differentiated material collected in 1995-1998. Physical and chemical properties of spring and winter triticale grain correlated first of all with the yield of middlings, as well as with the reduction and total flour yields in laboratory milling. Triticale grain of high 1000 grain weight, high vitreosity, high HL-weight and of over 2.8 mm thickness was characterized by good milling value. The content of total protein in winter triticale grain was correlated positively with reduction, flour yield but negatively with breaking flour yield. Worse results of milling, expressed by raised ash content of flour and lower milling effectiveness index, were obtained with the grain containing more protein and mineral components.

Opis:
The aim of this research has been to assess and compare the economic efficiency of production technologies used to grow a semi-dwarf winter triticale cultivar Gniewko. The method based on the standard gross margin (SGM) was used for the economic evaluation of the two production technology differentiated costs level. The analyzed material consisted of results achieved during a three-year field experiment located at the Experimental Station in Bałcyny near Ostróda. Technologies with the highest and lowest average yields were selected for comparisons. The compared technologies differed from each other in the rate of nitrogen fertilization and fungicides. The more intensive winter triticale technology in field trial, the greater the financial values of winter triticale yield as well as direct costs and direct surplus. The direct costs analysis references to the positive verification of the research hypothesis. The increase of the direct surplus value, which accounted 25.2%, was recorded when the intensity of cultivation increased. Increasing inputs for winter triticale production up to the level of intensive technology in trial conditions was economically justifiable.
Celem badań była ocena i porównanie sprawności ekonomicznej technologii produkcji półkarłowego pszenżyta ozimego odmiany Gniewko. Do oceny ekonomicznej technologii produkcji pszenżyta ozimego wykorzystano metodę opartą na standardowej nadwyżce bezpośredniej (SGM). Materiał badawczy stanowiły wyniki trzyletniego doświadczenia polowego zlokalizowanego w Zakładzie Produkcyjno-Doświadczalnym w Bałcynach k. Ostródy. Do oceny wytypowano technologie największych i najmniejszych średnich plonów.

Opis:
The purpose of this work was to determine the impact of weather conditions during the spring and summer growth of winter triticale on the yield and content of nutrients in its grain. The research results were achieved from a controlled field experiment carried out at the Experimental Station of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, located in Tomaszkowo near Olsztyn (53o42’ N; 20o26’ E). The impact of weather factors during the spring and summer growth of winter triticale on the yield and content of nutrients in its grain was explained by correlation and multiple regression analyses. The duration of the spring and summer growing season (b ́= 0.929**) and the average daily temperatures during the plant growth (b ́= 0.409*) had the strongest, significantly positive impact on winter triticale yield. A significant linear correlation was found only between the content of nitrogen and potassium in winter triticale grain and the selected weather parameters. The nitrogen content depended on the number of plant growing days and average minimum daily temperature, while the potassium content was affected by the number of spring and summer growing days, average daily temperature, total precipitation volume and the number of days with precipitation. Considering the cumulative impact of the examined weather parameters on the content of macroelements in triticale grain, a significant effect was found for phosphorus and potassium, whose levels depended, to the largest extent, on the precipitation volume and number of days without precipitation ≥10 days, respectively. The content of phosphorus and nitrogen in grain was significantly negatively correlated with the yields of winter triticale.

Opis:
Surface waxes from wax-covered triticale plants (RAH 122) were sprayed on plants of the waxless genotype RAH 366 or the surface waxes were used to make artificial diet preparations. The results were significant increases in the mortality of apterous adults of the grain aphid Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) at all concentrations tested in comparison with those aphids which fed on the control plants or aphids which were reared on the diets. In the choice tests, most aphids settled on plants without surface waxes or on diet preparations which did not have surface waxes (the controls). When the concentration of the surface waxes was increased on one of the plants or surface waxes were increased in the diet preparation, the number of wandering aphids increased. Those aphids which did not wander were mainly on the waxless control plants or on the waxless diet preparations. Aphids did settle on those plants or on the diet preparations which had 100 and 1,000 μg · g–1 of surface wax. The aphids rarely settled on the diet preparations containing 10,000 μg ∙ g–1 of surface waxes. From these observations it appears that surface waxes can act as a feeding deterrent. Since aphids on plants with surface waxes, or aphids which settled on diet preparations with surface waxes, started to die earlier than aphids fed only the control plants or the control diet preparations, it is possible that the surface waxes had a toxic effect that led to early mortality. Thus, it can be said that the surface waxes caused feeding deterrence and had a toxic effect on the aphids.

Opis:
In the present study, the feeding of stem-flag leaf-ear explants of wheat, triticale and barley with d-chiro-inositol and d-pinitol was used for modification of the composition of soluble carbohydrates in grains without genetic transformation of plants. Maturing grains indicated ability to uptake exogenously applied cyclitols, not occurring naturally in cereal plants, and synthesized their a-d-galactosides. The pattern of changes in soluble carbohydrates during grain maturation and germination was not disturbed by the uptake and accumulation of cyclitols. Both, d-chiro-inositol and d-pinitol as well as their a-d-galactosides can be an additional pool of soluble carbohydrates accumulated by maturing grains, without decreasing seeds viability. This is the first report indicating the possibility of introduction of cyclitols with potentially human health benefits properties into cereal grains.
