The Act on Higher Education and Science of 2018 considerably restricts the internal autonomy of universities. Management is vested in rectors and university boards while neglecting the role of faculties, which, if established in the first place, have been reduced to entities of no significance. The rector, as the exclusive managerial body of an institution, and the university board, representing mainly external stakeholders, as a body supervising its economy, have been vested with such an ex-tensive authority that this may result in hindering the development of multiple academic disciplines, especially those in the area of the humanities, but also in the field of social studies in many cases.

The article describes the transformation of the idea of university education from medieval to modern times. From a historical perspective factors have been presented which influenced changes in teaching approaches at universities. This article presents contemporary social and ideological factors that affect the functioning of the university model. In the final section the author presents his own typology for contemporary models of university teaching.

Opis:
The consciousness of a crisis of university inclines towards its reformation. In the thinking about its revival it is necessary to take into account the archetypical idea behind university, traditions to date, contemporary conditions and visions of the future. It is also getting indispensable to take into consideration such values that ought to steer the development of university in the framework of global civilization. The tasks of university are as follows: 1) to conduct research in striving for truth in the conditions of autonomy and freedom, as well as responsibility for the present day and the future of man; 2) to educate students, which introduces them in the world of science and life, as well as teaches them to be responsible; 3) to practice public science which is present in debates undertaking to solve vital social problems. The academic community and its elites should defend the conception of university against the dictate of their political and economic counterparts who attempt to impose the idea of an entrepreneurial university which produces a utilitarian knowledge and “human principles”.

Knowledge commercialisation and the focus on economic and parametric evaluation of universities have been evoking heated debates in academic circles. However, the transition of the tertiary education system from the Humboldtian model to an entrepreneurial one that would incorporate both the financial aspect and the widely understood social dimension might become a catalyst for promoting sustainable development of the country and society. In this context, the social responsibility of the university is worth deeper reconsideration. It is the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) along with the local community that shoulder the responsibility for creating a unique response to the present challenges in order to suit best the needs of all the stakeholders.

The transformation of universities from the classic model to the entrepreneurial university and later to the innovative university is the stimulator for the creation of a knowledge society providing the foundation for an economy based on knowledge. This process is the effect of internal disputes running between traditionalists and pragmatists at universities. Among the traditionalists there is a conviction that knowledge is of a theoretical dimension that comes down to the value of discovery, retention and conveyance of knowledge in its own right. The aim of the herein paper is to conduct an analysis of the process of innovative management of a university, while also to define the innovative features of a university and the principles of management of a university of the third generation. The effect of the pilot research conducted is the proposal of the model of the university of the third generation, whose development is generated by constant innovation, cooperation with the economy, while also social partners and civic society.

In the Education Faculty at La Trobe University over 300 art works are exhibited around the walls and corridors of the building. This is named the F.M. Courtis Collection after the art educator who acquired the first works in 1958. The purpose of the acquisitions was to build a teaching collection for use by lecturers and student teachers. The collection was developed to provide examples of the stylistic periods in Australian art since European settlement across a range of art media. It was assumed that young people had limited access to quality art in rural regions and that being in daily contact with the works they would come to appreciate art which would then enrich them as teachers. The head of art education was responsible for the collection. Mr Courtis has been succeeded by four other curators in the last half century.

The 'Academic Museum' constitutes a crucial locale for a new history of science. As a space of academic self-fashioning and self-affirmation, it can illustrate historical concepts of objectivity, cultures of evidence or the performance of knowledge. University collections delineate emerging academic disciplines and allow scientists to use material culture in order to mark out their professional identities. Accordingly, the 'Academic Museum' can be investigated as accumulated cultural capital for academics and their scientific fields.
