Opis:
The article is focused on the phenomenon of the so-called uberisation (uber economy) process, which combines technological innovations with precarious workforce management techniques in urban environment. The main aim of the paper is to describe and explain this problem in the perspective of the Neil Smith's rent gap theory on the examples of Airbnb and Uber internet platforms and to present their impact on Polish urban areas. The article uses source literature as well as public and commercial databases and reveals that the presence of global sharing economy platforms at the local level is to the existence of economic capital rather than social, even if very often it is perceived in the opposite way.

Opis:
Decision making by those who play a key role in urban transformation can be supported by computer techniques. 3D-4D spatial simulations provide reliable information on the impact of spatial development changes on urban composition, microclimatic conditions and thermal comfort. Comprehensive approach to the subject of spatial changes during revitalization activities can contribute to guarantee high quality of life for people in urbanized areas, especially within public spaces. However, the current activities do not take into account microclimate issues, due to higher costs. As a result, an aim of this work was to evaluate microclimatic conditions and thermal sensation of people occupying two public spaces, i.e. Old Marketplace and Urban Square, which have been identified as priority areas in the process of city revitalization (Lodz). Results of studies may be presented to the local authorities to enrich analytical part of the urban development study, thus to enable appropriate decisions to be taken on land conversion. Conducted studies have shown that microclimate of areas is strongly dependent on spatial planning method. Greater diversity of meteorological parameters, i.e. temperature and relative humidity of air is observed in the Old Marketplace. In both areas there are microclimatic conditions described as uncomfortable. In order to guarantee appropriate thermal conditions for users, it is necessary to implement changes in their structure. The authors proposed potential planning strategies aimed to alleviate the discomfort related to human presence in both public spaces.

Human nature, social values and structure of needs constitute the basis of the aesthetics therefore the integrated understanding of the individual and his vital activity is reflected in modern design. Relevance of this research lies in the development of an urban environment typology from the subjectivity point of view. This theme is considered in systemic integrity (human – society – humanity - biological species), which allows to identify the nature of the aesthetic measures. Subsequently, the following generalized types of environment are distinguished: naturecentric, anthropocentric, sociocentric and integrated. As a result, the research identifies the main tasks and key issues of reconstruction and humanization of the environment.

Abstract in English
Streszczenie w jęz. angielskim
This is an attempt to present results of ecological studies of urban environments. A review of mainly Polish literature is the basis foT presentation of problems concerning: specific ecological character of urban environments, characteristics of town vegetation and municipal fauna communities, regularities of municipal ecological systems, colonization of towns by wild fauna and the specific character of municipal animals populations, characteristics of suburban environments, ecological status of urban environment and the place of man in the ecological structure of these environments. As regards biotic and abiotic conditions urban environments differ basically from natural and other anthropogenic environments and are specific „ecological islands”.Artificial town vegetation — formed from the very beginning — is constantly under the influence of man's activities (Fig. 1), which, amongst other things, is the cause of serious disturbances in the functioning of biotic systems. Isolated municipal greens have various types of vegetation and differ considerably as regards the areas it occupies. The structure and character of vegetation affect strongly the formation of town fauna communities.Town fauna has been studied unevenly and in fragments. Communities of town fauna, and especially the best known town avifauna differ distinctly from wild communities (Table I). With increasing urbanization the number of species decreases at a simultaneous increase in numbers of other populations. In town communities there is ho stability and there are frequent changes in the dominance structure as regards the dominance of one species. Under extreme conditions the number of species and numbers decrease. Quite many populations live in buildings moving towards the centTe where the buildings are close to one another (Table II), whereas other populations leave towns to live in its surroundings.Wild populations colonize in the vicinity of towns because of the attractiveness of this kind of environment. Several populations gradually penetrating the town undergo the synurbization process (Table III) and adapt to life under artificial, much changed conditions.Adaptation of population to specific urban environment is responsible for a number of significant changes in its ecology, biology and ethology, for changes of physiological properties and also perhaps genetic features. Thus separate urban populations are formed which are quite different from populations of the same species (Table IV). Numerous data point also to the simultaneous occurrence in town of wild and typically town population, but the town population colonizes mainly the centre and the wild one is pushed out in the direction of suburbs (Table II).Towns and surrounding areas strongly influence one another. Suburban environments, additonally under the influence of neighbouring natural environments, are very specific both from the point of landscape and ecologically. They are very important as a potential pool of fauna supplying — permanently or periodically — urban environments […]

Purpose: This paper aims to explore the potential impact of autonomous vehicles (AVs) on urban planning, sustainable urban development, and tourism. Methodology: The paper is a conceptual study that reviews and synthesizes existing literature on AVs, urban planning, and tourism. It also uses case studies to illustrate the potential effects of AVs. Results: The widespread adoption of AVs is likely to have significant implications for urban planning, including changes in land use, infrastructure design, and transportation patterns. AVs may also contribute to sustainable urban development by reducing traffic congestion and air pollution. In the tourism sector, AVs could lead to spatial changes, new social inequalities, and changes in the overnight visitor economy. Theoretical contribution: The paper contributes to the understanding of the complex interplay between AVs, urban planning, and tourism. It highlights the need for urban planners and tourism stakeholders to consider the potential impact of AVs in their decision-making processes. Practical implications: The paper provides practical insights for urban planners, tourism stakeholders, and policymakers on how to prepare for and adapt to the widespread use of AVs. It also emphasizes the importance of considering the potential benefits and challenges of AVs in the context of specific cities and tourism destinations.

Opis:
In this article we presented the issues concerning the measurement of road noise, measurement results, and the discussion pertaining to the methods of limiting the excessive noise in the city of Lublin. Mobile systems, equipped with software which enables editing the measurement data, analysis and presentation of the data in the form of an acoustic map, are used to measure the noise level. Exemplary streets of the city are shown, where the road noise level has been significantly exceeded, and the effects of acoustic screens installation is presented. Moreover, the preventive and educational actions which are carried out in Lublin, meant to popularise alternative methods of transport, are discussed. It was concluded that an effective reduction of the traffic noise in the city can be achieved already at the stage of designing housing estates, along with the planning of access roads and noise barriers.

Opis:
Introduction and objective. Many studies have indicated numerous nutrition mistakes among school-aged children and adolescents in both urban and rural environments. The aim of this study was to assess the nutritional habits of the Polish population, consisting of 7,974 individuals aged 12–17, from rural and urban environments, as well as to identify environmental variations of these habits and to verify the existing information on the incorrect nutrition of school-age children and adolescents. Materials and method. The research covered a group of 7,974 respondents – school-age adolescents with a similar age structure (12–17 years). The study on subjects from secondary school grades 1 – 3 was conducted in randomly selected schools from 2 random Polish provinces; 5 counties were randomly selected, followed by a choice of 2 communes: one rural and one urban. The research technique was a self-designed survey questionnaire. The obtained results were subjected to statistical analysis using the Pearson Chi 2 and V Cramer test. Results. The research revealed environment-based differences in subjects’ nutrition. Breakfast was consumed daily by a statistically significantly fewer subjects from the rural environment (36.31%) than from the urban areas (51.32%); second breakfast was consumed by an insignificantly smaller proportion of respondents from the urban environment (40.00%) than from the rural one (46.00%); dinner was eaten daily by 86.00% of urban subjects and 82.00% of rural respondents; afternoon tea and supper were eaten rarely by respondents from both environments. The diet of respondents was dominated by anti-health behaviours. Conclusions. Most of the respondents displayed incorrect nutritional behaviours. Nutritional mistakes occurred among respondents from both rural and urban environments, with the predominance of the rural areas.

The need for improvement of the environment quality at the territory of cities is directly conditioned by its impact on the health of humans. At the same time humans are not the only residents of urban ecosystems, but they are also inhabited by other organisms, using city as their habitat. The growth of cities is a stable trend of the modern times and it comes into conflict with wildlife living activity and quality of environment. Sustainable development of cities is impossible without environment protection, economic progress and benefits for local communities, therefore the creation of protected areas groups within the city of Kyiv is offered as an instrument for biodiversity support and urban ecosystem stabilization. The most important requirements to the sites to be included into the system of protected areas have been formulated. The first two cores are developed based on small lakes, which are characterized with environmental, recreational and wildlife support potential. The benefits from the creation of the urban network of protected areas have been defined for urban ecosystem and social and economic situation in the city.

Opis:
Rapid socio-economic development and urbanization have contributed to the serious deterioration of air quality in many world cities including Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. Through a data-driven analysis of regulatory intervention, this study attempts to examine the effectiveness of air pollution control regulations that have been implemented in Kosovo between 2010–2021. Our results show that the measures enforced during this 10-year period in Kosovo, and particularly in the capital city, have resulted in the reduction of pollution. The applied methods for this research are the standard ones of the Instituti Hidrometeorologjik i Kosovës (Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo). All results showed a decrease of each pollutant over the ten years. These changes strongly indicated that the origin of the pollution was traffic and anthropogenic activity, while the power plant was considered to be a less significant source of pollution. The basic pollutants of air quality in Pristina are particulate matters (PM2.5 and PM10), ozone and nitrogen oxide.

Opis:
The author analyses the significance of plants cultivated on balconies for thinking about urban green spaces. Balcony gardens are presented as spaces where plants are arranged and cultivated by individuals on a daily basis in a mainly unprofessional way. Balcony gardens are discussed as vernacular gardens that are both private and as such they reflect the intentions and tastes of their owners and public insofar as they belong to the public space together with the balconies supporting them. The author contends that the balcony garden is worth considering as a useful point of reference whenever vernacular practices aimed at enhancing green urban spaces are at stake. The reason is that tensions that make balcony gardens so particular are characteristic of urban greenery. As a result, one has to accept that it is not possible to impose any norms on vernacular green urban practices and that different people’s approaches to plants (reluctance included) have to be recognized and acknowledged. The balcony garden may also be treated as a sort of paradigmatic example of how plants may be treated as non-human dwellers. The argumentation is structured around the presentation of the “Warsaw in flowers and greenery” contest which was established in mid 1930s and then re-established in mid 1980s and whose aim is to promote cultivation of flowers and plants on window sills, balconies, in courtyards and front yards.
