Opis:: Suburbanizacja jest procesem zachodzącym w ostatnim półtorawieczu, związanym z początkami industrializacji. Proces suburbanizacji w całym okresie ulegał jednak przeobrażaniu i wywoływany był różnymi czynnikami. W artykule przedstawiono podłoże i cechy charakterystyczne dla współczesnej suburbanizacji. Wskazano także na nieuchronność dalszego rozwoju owego procesu, podając kilka tego powodów. W opracowaniu przedyskutowano sześć hipotez dotyczących kształtowania się procesu suburbanizacji w przyszłości. Autor przedstawił także rozważania nad możliwością zastąpienia suburbiów inną formą osadnictwa.
Suburbanisation, a process occurring during the last 150 years, is connected with the beginning of industrialisation. However, the suburbanisation process has been changing during the whole period due to different factors. In the article the background and characteristics of contemporary suburbanisation is presented. Also some causes of the inevitability of the futurę development of this process are pointed out. Six hypotheses regarding the futurę shape of suburbanisation processes are discussed. The author also elaborates opportunities for replacing suburbs with other form of settlement.

The paper concludes by demonstrating the dominating influence of the inhabitants of Łódź on urbanisation processes caused by their tourism and recreational activity in this area.

Opis:: Dyskusja o charakterystycznych cechach procesu urbanizacji zachodzącego na wiejskich obszarach Opola rozpoczęta została bardzo wcześnie, na początku XIX w. Proces urbanizacji był związany z industrializacją obszarów wiejskich i został w tym kontekście określony jako proces semiurbanizacji. Ten proces był paralelą suburbanizacji, a wiele przestrzeni było nimi objętych. Dyskusja nad badaniami i naukowymi korzeniami terminu „semiurbanizacja” jest prowadzona zarówno w geografiispołeczno-ekonomicznej, polityce regionalnej i polityce rozwoju obszarów wiejskich, jak i w lokalnych ośrodkach badawczych. Szczególna uwaga była poświęcona genezie procesu urbanizacji w wiejskich przestrzeniach Śląska Opolskiego i rozwojowi tego procesu (ewolucji) przed okresem transformacji gospodarczej w Polsce. Analizie podlegało także rozprzestrzenianie się tegoż procesu w całym regionie. W opracowaniu przedstawiono cechy charakterystyczne dla procesu urbanizacji na obszarach wiejskich, które można objąć ogólnym terminem semiurbanizacji. Omówiono także - na przykładzie dobrze rozpoznanego i udokumentowanego procesu urbanizacji w strefie aglomeracji opolskiej - trudności w precyzyjnym rozróżnieniu semiurbanizacji i suburbanizacji. Podjęto też próbę sklasyfikowania zjawisk urbanizacyjnych zachodzących na obszarach wiejskich aglomeracji opolskiej i regionu opolskiego w okresie transformacji.
The discussion on characteristic features of urbanisation process in rural surroundings of Opole which were started quite early in the beginning of XIX Century is provided. Process of urbanisation was closely connected to industrialisation of rural areas there and should be summarized as semi-urbanisation. Hus process was parallel to suburbanisation and many areas were effected by both of them. Discussion on research and scientific roots of the term semi-urbanisation in economic and social geography, regional and rural policy as well as in local studies is given. Special attention have been paid to genesis of urbanisation process in rural areas of Opole Silesia and its evolution till the period of economic transformation in Poland. Spatial diffusion of suburbanisation and semi-urbanisation processes in the region is analysed also. The paper try to define as much the term semi-urbanisation fit to the very characteristic features and advances of urbanisation phenomenon in Opole Agglomeration during theperiod oftransition in Poland.

Opis:: Ümraniye, which is a district of Istanbul, has been one of the leading centers of development in parallel with the development in outward–oriented economy and industrialization in the 1980’s in Turkey. The district which looked like a village in 1960s, having experienced rapid urbanisation and industrialisation, is now looking far from its earlier appearance. During the period of migration from suburbs to the cities, one of those who took in the biggest share of people is Ümraniye. The purpose of this study is to determine the historical development of industrialization in Ümraniye and the causes of this development, its structure, and the distribution of its sectors. As an operation of a regional industry, this study handles the features of the location of Ümraniye District, the factors that affect the industry in the district, distribution of industrial sectors, and environmental issues.

Opis:: The article critically discusses place-making, which is currently gaining attention in various disciplines of science and practice. Place-making is a concept with great potential to rebuild a multidisciplinary language to better identify and respond to the challenges of sustainable urbanisation. After briefly discussing the shift that the concept is provoking in the social sciences, about design, as well as politics and activism, the author points out the risks inherent in it and shows how they can be transcended by inscribing in place-making senses relating to, among other things, the multi-species urban community, hybrid spaces, verticality and transborderity of the contemporary city. The conclusion is a manifesto that points to place-making as an everyday attitude, a common concern for cities as shared space.

Opis:: Tourism constitutes a voluntary change of place of stay, surrounding environment and rhythm of life, which a tourist expects will contribute to his or her development on various levels. Mass tourism is a similar phenomenon. However, its larger scale may pose a threat to the natural environment comparable to the impact of numerous industries or that of intensive agriculture. Sustainable (green tourism) is a response to such threats. This type of tourism is environmentally friendly in contrast to traditional (mass) tourism, which often adversely affects the natural balance and disregards the needs of the natural environment. In turn, urbanization is a process entailing economic, spatial, social and cultural changes contributing to the expansion of urban areas. This process is connected with industrialisation and causes migration of people from rural areas to cities in search for employment in the service sector or industry. Sustainable urbanisation is quite a new trend in urban development. This type of urbanisation offers a number of economic benefits, such as reduction in energy and water consumption, transport costs or costs of numerous services, including medical, cultural, educational or those linked to lifestyle. Th is paper describes tourism and urbanisation as mass processes which may have a negative impact on the natural environment. Additionally, the notions of sustainable urbanisation and sustainable tourism are presented as an alternative to the chaotic urban development and undesirable ways in which tourism may develop.
