Opis:: Progressive supranuclear palsy [Steele-Richardson-Olszewski] is a neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system. It develops mainly in men over 40 years of age. The course of PSP is rather characteristic: motor, cognitive and non-cognitive impairments develop at a fairly rapid rate. The aim of the study is to assess interactional, communicative and linguistic competencies and skills, executive abilities (breathing, phonation and articulation) as well as primary functions of a patient diagnosed with PSP. The article confirms the thesis that dementia disorders overlap with motor disorders in the course of PSP.

Opis:: The author is interested in verbal communication problems between generations - the young and the old. The opposition US vs. THEM is reflected in language and its communicative use, deepening the distance between the generations. An exclusion of children and youth typical for previous centuries is no longer true. It was replaced by a progressive cultural marginalization of old age people. The differences between the language of the young and the old are manifested on the lexical, phraseological and stylistic levels. Having enumerated the language, stylistic and communicative problems of the theoretical and methodological nature, the author presents three possibilities of inter-generation communication: (1) Each of the interactants maintains one's own way of speaking and then the communication becomes more difficult or even blocked - confrontation style. (2) Both parties present a mutual compromise tendencies if the aim of the communication act is a mutual understanding - consensual style. (3) The interactants adopt their interlocutor's style - adoptive style (chameleon style).

Opis:: The thesis deals with the issue of communication in the pedagogical practice of the manager. The communication between the primary school headmaster and the school staff is important in building relationships and directing the primary school itself. In the theoretical part of the thesis we define communication, look at the forms of communication, while discussing verbal and non-verbal com- munication. Later, the theoretical part of the thesis analyzes the position of the manager and the di- rector and his communication towards the employees. The practical part analyzes and characterizes the opinions of pedagogical and non-pedagogical employees of selected primary schools on the issue of mutual communication with headmasters of primary schools.

Opis:: This article describes contribution of the Kharkiv linguistic school to the formation of theory of non-verbal communication (NVC) and indicates the periods of its development in Ukrainian linguistics: from the psycholinguistic research of Oleksandr Potebnia (the late nineteenth century) to modern pragmalinguistic studies. The article aims to familiarise the European scholarly community with theoretical achievements of world-class Ukrainian linguists: Oleksandr Potebnia, Leonid Bulakhovs′kyĭ, Iuriĭ Shevel′ov (Iuriĭ Sherekh, George Shevelov), who directly or indirectly formed a theory of non-verbal communication (its methodological postulates, typology of non-verbal parameters, terminology), as well as with achievements of their followers, representatives of the pragmalinguistic branch of the Kharkiv linguistic school, exploring issues of NVC theory in the framework of discourse theory. Modern Ukrainian linguists actively develop non-verbal communication theory in relation to discourse practice (theoretical, terminological, stylistic, ethnocultural, idiolectic, gender and lexicographic aspects) and declare to have worked out a methodology for a comprehensive analysis of the non-verbal communication system on the basis of oral and written Ukrainian material. However, the article draws attention to the lack of a national Ukrainian theoretical platform, uniform NVC metalanguage and research methods, and identifies this issue as the most pressing research challenge. Based on the presented conceptualisations, the article identifies five periods of the formation and development of the Ukrainian theory of NVC, as reflected in the achievements of the most well-known and the strongest school in Ukrainian linguistics: (1) the initial period: late 19th – early 20th centuries; (2) the avant-garde period: 1920s–1930s; (3) the Soviet period: 1930s–1960s; (4a) the (“post-Soviet”) diaspora period (1970s); (4b) the post-Soviet period (1990s); (5) the current period: since the early 2000s. The article also outlines research prospects in this study area.
Niniejszy artykuł opisuje wkład charkowskiej szkoły językoznawczej w powstanie i rozwój teorii komunikacji niewerbalnej oraz nakreśla etapy rozwoju tej teorii w ukraińskim językoznawstwie, począwszy od psycholingwistycznych badań Ołeksandra Potebni pod koniec XIX wieku aż po współczesne badania pragmalingwistyczne. Artykuł ma na celu zapoznanie europejskich badaczy z teoretycznymi osiągnięciami ukraińskich językoznawców światowej klasy: Ołeksandra Potebni, Leonida Bułachowskiego, Jurija Szewelowa (Jurija Szerecha, George’a Shevelova), którzy bezpośrednio lub pośrednio przyczynili się do sformułowania teorii komunikacji niewerbalnej (jej postulatów metodologicznych, typologii parametrów niewerbalnych, terminologii), jak również z osiągnięciami ich następców, przedstawicieli nurtu pragmalingwistycznego charkowskiej szkoły językoznawczej, badających zagadnienia teorii komunikacji niewerbalnej w ramach teorii dyskursu. Dzisiejsi językoznawcy ukraińscy aktywnie rozwijają teorię komunikacji niewerbalnej w odniesieniu do praktyki dyskursu (w aspekcie teoretycznym, terminologicznym, stylistycznym, etnokulturowym, idiolektalnym, genderowym i leksykograficznym) i deklarują stosowanie opracowanej na bazie ukraińskiego materiału ustnego i pisemnego metodologii wszechstronnej analizy systemu komunikacji niewerbalnej. Artykuł zwraca jednak uwagę na brak ogólnokrajowej platformy teoretycznej, jednolitego metajęzyka i metod badawczych, wskazując przy tym, że jej stworzenie stanowi najpilniejsze zadanie stojące przed badaczami. Na podstawie przedstawionych konceptualizacji artykuł wyróżnia pięć okresów rozwoju ukraińskiej teorii komunikacji niewerbalnej w odniesieniu do osiągnięć charkowskiej szkoły językoznawczej, najbardziej znanej i najlepszej szkoły ukraińskiego językoznawstwa: 1) okres początkowy (schyłek XIX i początek XX wieku); 2) okres awangardy (lata 20. i 30. XX wieku); 3) okres radziecki (od lat 30. do 60. XX wieku); 4a) okres „postradzieckiej” diaspory (lata 70. XX wieku); 4b) okres postradziecki (lata 90. XX wieku); 5) okres współczesny (od początku XXI wieku). Artykuł przedstawia również perspektywy badawcze na tym polu.

Opis:: Title: Communication as a therapeutic tool in physiotherapyAim: Getting to know physiotherapy students’ opinion on the use of verbal and nonverbal communication during therapy as a therapeutic tool.Material and methods: The research was conducted using a diagnostic survey questionnaire prepared by the author. The study covers 109 physiotherapy students at Jagiellonian University in Krakow. It was conducted by means of an online link to www.moje-ankiety.pl, where the questionnaire was created. The survey lasted from September to November 2013.Results: Over 60% of students believe that communication is a therapeutic tool in the work of a physiotherapist, while 37% recognize its importance, but stress that in this profession professional and medical knowledge is the most important. 62% of respondents expressed willingness to participate in further training in the field of communication with the patient. 42% of students believe that the curriculum should include more communication-related content, but at the same time the classes should be conducted differently. Students were asked about different aspects of communication and their importance, and also about their knowledge of concepts related to communication and how they communicate with patients during therapy.Conclusions: For the vast majority of physiotherapy students, communication is a therapeutic tool in working with the patient. More than half of the students see the need to introduce a greater number of communication classes in the curriculum and would like to expand their knowledge in this field through additional training. They also would like to be taught communication in a more interesting way.
Tytuł: Komunikacja jako narzędzie terapeutyczne w fizjoterapiiCel pracy: Zapoznanie się z opinią studentów fizjoterapii na temat wykorzystania komunikacji werbalnej i niewerbalnej podczas prowadzonej terapii jako narzędzia terapeutycznego.Materiał i metody: Badania zostały przeprowadzone metodą sondażu diagnostycznego z zastosowaniem kwestionariusza ankiety własnego autorstwa. Badaniem zostało objętych 109 studentów fizjoterapii Collegium Medicum Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie. Badanie zostało przeprowadzone poprzez udostępnienie internetowego odnośnika do strony www.moje-ankiety.pl, gdzie stworzona została ankieta. Badanie trwało od września do listopada 2013 roku. Wyniki: Ponad 60% studentów uważa, że komunikacja stanowi narzędzie terapeutyczne w pracy fizjoterapeuty, natomiast 37% uznaje jej ważność, podkreślając, że w tym zawodzie liczy się jednak głównie wiedza medyczna i zawodowa. 62% respondentów wyraziło chęć uczestniczenia w dodatkowym szkoleniu z zakresu komunikacji z pacjentem. 42% studentów uważa, że w programie studiów powinno znaleźć się więcej treści dotyczących komunikacji, lecz jednocześnie przedmioty z tego zakresu powinny być inaczej prowadzone. Studenci zostali również zapytani m.in. o różne obszary komunikacji, które w terapii są ich mocną stroną, bądź na którą nie zwracają uwagi, o znajomość pojęć związanych z komunikacją oraz o inne elementy porozumiewania się, jakie obecne są w prowadzonych przez nich terapiach.Wnioski: Dla zdecydowanej większości studentów fizjoterapii komunikacja jest narzędziem terapeutycznym w pracy z pacjentem. Ponad połowa studentów chciałaby rozszerzyć wiedzę w tym zakresie przez dodatkowe szkolenia, bądź widzi potrzebę wprowadzenia większej ilości treści programowych w toku studiów i prowadzenia zajęć z komunikacji w ciekawszy sposób.

Opis:: The subject of the work is the issue of analysis and interpretation of non-verbal behavior referenced to the security context and its threats. The fundamental thesis of the work is to prove the crucial role of knowledge and practical skills in the recognition and presentation of nonverbal behavior in crisis situations and emergencies. The author also points out the possibility of preparing and carrying out training in dealing with non-verbal messages for members of dispositional groups. In the analysis, the issue of the difference between the non-verbal and verbal behavior is discussed. Then the environmental issues of communication are analyzed in the form of importance of factors such as perception of situation, perception of time, presence of other people and architectural elements. In the same area dimensions of relations, knowledge on environment and people are located. The scope of non-verbal communication also includes close surroundings of a person and things possessed by him/her. Other important elements of the communication environment analysis are territory and personal space. Distinction is made between types of territory. In connection with the issue of space the author also introduced categorization of distance to the partner. In conclusion the need and usefulness of communication behavior model constructing, and conducting empirical research in this area are pointed out.
