Opis:
The paper describes attempts to find advantageous shape and configuration of a manhole located in the upper part of a cylindrical pressure vessel. Manholes of circular and elliptical cross sections have been considered. The manhole is placed vertically and symmetrically with respect to the cylindrical vessel. Three variants of the manhole walls have been taken into account. In the first variant, the manhole wall reaches only the cylinder surface. The manhole walls in two other variants are elongated inside the cylindrical vessel to various lengths. In the case of elliptical manholes two other variants were been considered, i.e. with their major axes situated in parallel or perpendicularly to the axis of symmetry of the cylindrical vessel. Results of the numerical calculation are presented in figures and tables.

Opis:
The paper is devoted to analysis of a dished head of a pressure vessel subject to internal uniform pressure and provided with a nozzle. A short survey of optimal design of the pressure vessel and its head is presented. The vessel head of a selected optimized shape is then completed by a nozzle, and the equivalent stress pattern is observed and recorded. The axis of symmetry of the nozzle is parallel to that of the vessel. The nozzle is placed in various distances from the axis of symmetry of the vessel. The dimensionless distance e between both axes varies from 0 (i.e. axisymmetric location) up to 0.8 (assuming that the radius of cylindrical part of the vessel is equal to 1). Results of numerical calculation are presented in plots and figures.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to provide a simple method for the definition of a rudder for tuna purse seiners. The model achieved by the application of this method ensures the manoeuvrability of initial turning, course keeping and yaw checking. For this, the results obtained by other authors, through rudder tests and manoeuvrability tests of fishing vessels have been integrated with the recommendations of the International Normative. Finally, in the paper the method is applied to the case of a tuna vessel, providing a rudder model which could be optimised with CFD (Computer Fluid Dynamics) in further tests. The method proposed can be applied to other vessels whose main dimensions are met.

Opis:
AIS (Automatic Identification System) data have proven to be a valuable source to investigate vessel behavior. The analysis of AIS data provides a possibility to recognize vessel behavior patterns in a waterway area. Furthermore, AIS data can be used to classify vessel behavior into several categories. The analysis results would help the port authority and other equivalent parties in port design and optimization or marine traffic management. For researchers, it provides a systematic way to understand, simulate and predict vessel behavior. This paper focuses on vessel classification in the Botlek area, Rotterdam from the perspective of vessel behavior. In this paper, the vessel properties, including vessel type, GT (Gross Tonnage), length and beam, have been analyzed to investigate the vessel behavior, which is described by four factors including heading, COG (Course over Ground), SOG (Speed over Ground), and position. In order to discover the behavior patterns in normal situations, several thresholds are set in order to filter the collected AIS data to define such situations. By plotting the AIS data, behavioral changes with the changes of properties have been observed. Hence, the correlations between vessel behavior and different vessel properties are investigated. The results reveal that a vessel’s sailing position and COG are both strongly determined by beam, while SOG is affected by GT. For the heading of a vessel, no obvious correlation with any vessel property is found. Each behavioral factor is clustered according to the correlated vessel property. This way, the criteria to classify the vessels are determined. The vessel classification results based on their behavior would likely to lead to more consistency in the analysis, simulation and prediction of the vessel behavior. The reason is that the development of such a simulation model is based on a systematic recognition of the vessel behavior patterns.

Opis:
The present article concerns a problem of vessel speed modeling in restricted areas, where vessel traffic flow is disturbed. In analysis of vessel speed on the Świnoujście–Szczecin fairway, division into the particular ship types has been made. Probability distributions describing speed of different ship groups have been analysed. Using the chi-square goodness-of-fit test it has been showed that the best distribution describing vessel speed of the most ship groups, is the Gumbel distribution.

Opis:
The article analyses excitations of a multihull vessel using stochastic formulation. The excitations which make the vessel move come from the motion of sea waves and the action of wind. The sea undulation has most frequently the form of irregular waves, and that is why it is assumed in many studies of sea-going vessel dynamics that the undulation process has probabilistic nature. In the article the dynamics of a multihull vessel is analysed using a linear model on which an irregular wave acts. It was assumed that the examined object interacts with the head sea, and for this wave a set of state equations was derived. The head sea provokes symmetric movements of the object, i.e. surge, heave and pitch.

Opis:
In order to study the characteristics of mixed vessel traffic flow, based on classical head distance model and probability analysis, by studying the combination time head way of different vessel-following sequences, the capacity model of mixed vessels traffic flow was established. Through analyzing two representative types of vessels, research results indicate that the capacity of mixed traffic increase with the traffic flow speed in a certain speed range, but the increasing trend slow down. The closer length and inertial stopping distance of different kind vessels are, the more capacity of mixed traffic increases. And the influence of reaction time on the capacity is related to proportion of different kind vessels.

Opis:
By developing possible solutions for Saudi ports to limit the increase in damage to the marine ecosystem, the random system for estimating the waiting time of ships in Saudi ports has been developed as a model to guide the application of the multiple benefits to the beneficiaries such as ship owners, shipping companies and port authorities so that it is applied to create multiple economic and environmental savings. An imperative optimization model for solving container slot allocation problems for time-sensitive commodities under the dynamics of port congestion pricing. The proposed new pricing mechanism has proven to be effective when compared to a generic slot allocation model that does not take into account shipping time limits and port congestion, with results showing that the proposed pricing scheme can significantly improve ship companies' revenues and improve customer satiation. In terms of reducing carbon emissions from the ship's stay for a longer period at the docks.

Opis:
Paper contains an overview of the propulsion and maneuvering systems’ characteristics of United States flagged Great Lakes self - unloading bulk carriers. A contrast between the importance of the transport task carried by those vessels to their low number and considerable age suggests the need to review and understand their complexity as well as complexity of their operations in order to provide suitable energy- and operational efficiency upgrades. Such review can prove to be challenging due to limited information available in the literature. Environment in which those vessels operate and their operational profile have been also reviewed due to the fact that they gave rise to the unique hull - form that subsequently influenced the propulsion and maneuvering system design in a significant manner. The environment and operational profile were also found to influence propulsion and maneuvering systems’ form more directly: through the requirements posed on vessels maneuvering capabilities and propulsive power requirements.

Opis:
Optimising the ship route is one of the most important tasks related to the operation of the vessel, its safety, and economic aspects of transport. Nevertheless, from a mathematical point of view, this problem has not been solved yet sufficiently precisely due to very high complexity of the model to be used to describe the motion of the ship along the shipping line, and time- and space-dependent average values of statistical weather parameters recorded during ship sailing. That is why various approximate methods are used, which, among other procedures, utilize ship speed characteristics, having the form of very simple relations between basic dimensions of the ship and the expected speed decrease at the assumed weather parameters. The paper presents a new method of calculating the speed decrease depending on technical and operating parameters of a given vessel. A computer code prepared based on this method is used for research on forecasting ship speed in real weather conditions.
