Opis:: Developed by French mathematician Augustin-Louis Cauchy, the classical theory of elasticity is the starting point to show the value and the physical reality of quaternions. The classical balance equations for the isotropic, elastic crystal, demonstrate the usefulness of quaternions. The family of wave equations and the diffusion equation are a straightforward consequence of the quaternion representation of the Cauchy model of the elastic solid. Using the quaternion algebra, we present the derivation of the quaternion form of the multiple wave equations. The fundamental consequences of all derived equations and relations for physics, chemistry, and future prospects are presented.

Opis:: Based on wave mechanics theory, the dynamic response characteristics of cantilever flexible wall in two-dimensional site are analyzed. The partial derivative of the vibration equation of soil layer is obtained, and the general solution of the volume strain is obtained by the separation of variables method. The obtained solution is substituted back to the soil layer vibration equation to obtain the displacement vibration general solution. Combined with the soil-wall boundary condition and the orthogonality of the trigonometric function, the definite solution of the vibration equation is obtained. The correctness of the solution is verified by comparing the obtained solution with the existing simplified solution and the solution of rigid retaining wall, and the applicable conditions of each simplified solution are pointed out. Through parameter analysis, it is shown that when the excitation frequency is low, the earth pressure on the wall is greatly affected by the soil near the wall. When the excitation frequency is high, the influence of the far-field soil on the earth pressure of the wall gradually increases. The relative stiffness of the wall, the excitation frequency and the soil layer damping factor have a significant effect on the dynamic response of the flexible retaining wall.

Opis:: The problem of wave-induced stresses and liquefaction in the seabed according to the Biot-type approach is discussed. The first part of the paper deals with critical analysis of approaches presented in recent literature. It is shown that such approaches do not lead to proper description of the process of wave-induced pore-pressure generation and subsequent liquefaction of seabeds. The second part of this paper deals with the generalisation of the Biot-type approach to the case of shear modulus depending on mean effective stress.

Opis:: The paper presents the method of determining the impact of an external explosion on construction barriers, taking into account the angle of the shock wave. For the presented two variants of the analysis, i.e. for the load placed at a distance of 5 and 10 m from the construction barrier, the initial pressure of the reflected wave, the duration of overpressure and the course of load variability over time were determined. For the assumed parameters of the barrier and the blast load, the values of overpressure were determined, taking into account the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection. Additionally, a comparative analysis of the proposed method with other methods available in the literature was made. The convergence of the results did not exceed 10%. The proposed method allows to determine the boundary between the Mach and the incident waves.

Opis:: In the study, wave propagation along aorta is studied for different normal and pathological conditions in distal arteries. The mathematical model is based on the axisymmetric incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for blood and momentum equations for an incompressible viscoelastic arterial wall. The solution has been found as a superposition of forward and backward running waves. The blood pressure and flow curves measured by ultrasound in larger systemic arteries of ten healthy volunteers have been used for identification of the model parameters. It is shown that individual geometry plays an essential role in the location of positive and negative wave reflection sites along the aorta and, thus, in the pressure and flow patterns as well as blood distribution into the side branches. The model is validated by comparative study with the same dependencies computed previously on a 55-tube model as well as on the measurement data. The model can be used for determination of the individual parameters for patient-specific cardiovascular models and further in silico modeling of the outcomes of surgical and therapeutic procedures.

Opis:: This paper presents the measurement method and results applicable to the pressure pulses and thermal effects generated by an explosion of an unguided thermobaric rocket missile warhead. The determination results include the shock wave pressure and velocity, the TNT equivalents of the thermobaric warheads, and the personnel strike radii of the shock wave. An estimation of the temperature increase rates at the shock wave front was also undertaken.
W artykule przedstawiono metodę i wyniki pomiarów impulsów ciśnienia i efektów termicznych generowanych przez wybuch głowicy termobarycznej rakiety niekierowanej. Wyznaczono ciśnienia i prędkości fal uderzeniowych, równoważniki trotylowe detonowanych głowic oraz promienie rażenia siły żywej przez falę uderzeniową, oszacowano przyrosty temperatury na froncie fali uderzeniowej.

Opis:: In land transport, we observe an increase of loads as well as of speeds of travel, which leads to considerable stresses and strains in constructions like tracks, bridges and tunnels. The wave propagation caused by constant and harmonic loads moving at constant speed along straight lines has been well covered in the recent literature. Problems including other types of variable loading conditions are much less understood. In the article, some problems of this type are posed and discussed together with applications in vehicle mechanics. In particular, motion of out-of-the-round wheels on rails and some problems of brake disk dynamics are presented.
W transporcie lądowym, zwłaszcza szynowym, obserwuje się tendencję do coraz wyższych prędkości i większych obciążeń, skąd wynikają między innymi znaczne naprężenia wtakich konstrukcjach jak szyny, mosty i tunele.Efekty falowe z tym związane dobrze są zbadane w przypadku stałych prędkości ruchu prostolinijnego i harmonicznych obciążeń. Zagadnienia uwzględniające innego typu zmienności sił czy warun-ków brzegowych dotąd nie znalazły odpowiednio dużo uwagi w literaturze. W obecnej pracy kilka zadań tej klasy zostało postawionych i przedyskutowanych, między innymi problem związany z kołami skorugowanymi i problem dynamiki dysku hamulcowego jako przykłady z zakresu mechaniki pojazdów szynowych.

Tytuł:: Toward complementary characterization of the chemical bond

Opis:: A precise discussion of a single bond requires consideration of two-particle wave function for the particles involved. Here we define and determine rigorously the intrinsic covalency and connected characteristics of the canonical example of the H2 molecule. This is achieved by starting from an analytic form for the two-particle wave function for electrons forming the bond, in which we single out the atomic contribution (atomicity) in an unequivocal manner. The presence of the atomicity and ionicity factors complements the existing attributes of the bond. In this way, a gradual evolution of the molecular state to its two-atom correspondent is traced systematically with increasing interatomic distance. In effect, a direct relation to the onset of incipient Mott-Hubbard atomicity (Mottness) to the intrinsic covalency and ionicity is established. This goal is achieved formally by combining the single-particle wave function readjustment in the entangled state with a simultaneous determination of two-particle states in the particle (second quantization) representation.

Opis:: We have shown that the Schrödinger wave equation can be explained and derived from fundamental postulates that are based on the conservation of probability, significance of measurements at infinity and nature’s tendency of maintaining a system as unbiased as possible. As a reasonable measure for the local randomness, Fisher information is considered. The presented approach provides an axiomatic derivation for the Schrödinger wave equation, avoiding imperfect models borrowed from classical mechanics such as direct application of the energy conservation, statistical mechanics or vibrating string models.

W pracy przedstawiono sposób określania oddziaływania wybuchu zewnętrznego na przegrody budowlane z uwzględnieniem kąta padania fali uderzeniowej. Dla przedstawionych dwóch wariantów analizy, tj. dla ładunku umieszczonego w odległości 5 i 10 m od przegrody, wyznaczono ciśnienia początkowe fali odbitej, czasy trwania nadciśnienia oraz przebieg zmienności obciążenia w czasie. Dla założonych parametrów przegrody oraz ładunku wyznaczono wartości nadciśnień z uwzględnieniem kąta padania. W rozważaniach nad wpływem wybuchu zewnętrznego wykorzystano różne procedury znane w literaturze, na których podstawie opracowano algorytm postępowania przy wyznaczaniu charakterystyk oddziaływania na przegrody budowlane z podziałem na falę odbitą i falę padającą. Dodatkowo dokonano analizy porównawczej proponowanej metody z innymi metodami opisanymi w literaturze. Zbieżność wyników nie przekroczyła 10%. Zaproponowana metoda pozwala na wyznaczenie linii granicznej pomiędzy falami Macha a falą padającą.
